ometimes it can seem like as soon as the Thanksgiving leftovers are put away it’s a mad dash towards Christmas. The whirlwind of shopping, wrapping, cooking and decorating can make it hard to actually slow down and enjoy the holiday season. We’ve found 25 events happening in the 209 that we hope will boost the Christmas spirit.
Travel back to Victorian times for the Sonora Victorian Christmas Festival held Nov. 26 to Nov. 28 at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.

Come shop art, crafts, clothing, jewelry, woodcraft, photography, Christmas decor, toys, and much more. Additionally, there will be entertainment, music, door prizes, food and artisans dressed in Victorian attire.

The holiday classic “Meet Me in St. Louis” will be performed as a live 1940s radio broadcast by Sierra Repertory Theater in Sonora in December.
Experience the magical journey of The Polar Express on an hour-long train ride to the North Pole. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies on this train ride with many of the story’s characters. At the final destination, the jolly old elf – Santa himself – will come on board to give each passenger a silver sleigh bell, the first gift of Christmas.

The Polar Express runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 18. Departures are at 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The location is at 18115 5th Ave. in Jamestown.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of the Smith family unfolds just before the 1904 World’s Fair took over St Louis’ and the nation’s imagination.
Fourth Wall Entertainment will present “A 1940’s Christmas Carol” at the Metropolitan in San Andreas. The show runs from Nov. 26 to Dec. 19. Dicken’s classic story of Scrooge and the Cratchit family has been adapted to the 1940’s during WWII. While Bob Cratchit is away in the war, Mrs. Cratchit is busy doing her part to make ends meet while raising a family and helping with the war effort at home.
