A letter from our president Rod Reiswig President

I

started my article last month with a great big, “Happy 50th Anniversary.”Now, with the anniversary celebration behind us, I think I can only start the month of August by exclaiming, “Wow, what an awesome weekend of 50th celebrations we had!” It all started Friday night with a Luau under the Oaks complete with roast pig, yellowtail tuna, purple potatoes and exotic tropical drinks and hula dancers.Saturday rolled right into early buffet breakfast and a 50th Anniversary Golf tournament that was loads of fun and perfect weather.Saturday evening was the Founder’s dinner/dance that was a premier event attended by many of the Founding and Charter members that were instrumental in setting the standards and expectations of what Spring Creek Golf & Country Club has evolved into today.That vision of a friendly, family atmosphere set in motion some 50 years ago is the same vision we hang our hats on today.Without it, we would not be the successful, flourishing Spring Creek Golf and Country Club we are.It was a great honor to be able to sit and talk with founding member and first Board President of Spring Creek Golf & Country Club, Al Van Veldhuizen.Amazing stories! All the above mentioned would not have been possible without the dedication, time and energy put forth over the past 7-8 months by the 50th Anniversary Committee chaired by Lynette Voss.Lynette and her committee along with Spring Creek management and staff, at-

tended to every detail that contributed to the best 50th anniversary any one of us could have ever hoped for. Thank you, Lynette, thank you committee members and thank you management and staff.The weekend was truly, a remarkable experience. August should be another great month for golf.Mike and his team continue to manage the golf course successfully under the drought restrictions set forth by the State, County and City of Ripon.Major excavation will be taking place on the #3 green as we speak.Raise your hand if you have birdied the temporary green on #3. Hello, anyone out there? I’m looking forward to the upcoming months and all the events slated for the rest of the year to include both women’s and men’s Invitationals.As if Shea’s life isn’t so busy already, I think this is where he kicks it into high gear.Go Shea! Financially, not such a great month for the club but still pacing ahead of budget for the year and still in great shape overall.Please join me in bidding our Controller, Robin Velthoen a farewell, and also welcoming our new incoming Controller, Nancy Stokke.Nancy brings many years of experience in accounting and managing businesses to Spring Creek Golf & Country Club and will be a great addition to the management team.I also want to thank Sherri Esparza for accepting a promotion to Office Manager. want to thank the 50th Anniversary Subcommittee who helped put together the July 17th and 18th celebration events. Along with staff members, Bernie Brown, Oksana Sandler, Ashley Ruelas, Shea Rollins and Chef Eric, were Lynette Vos (chairperson), Joan Kamps, Michele Bartels and Pat Krueger. They all did a wonderful job of planning and executing three great events. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful comments from the membership on the food, entertainment and service for the two days. Even though these events were the culmination of our 50th Anniversary celebration, we will continue to bring attention to the fact that we are celebrating 50 years in existence to the membership throughout the rest of the year, in memorable ways. For example, we have beautiful pewter engraved bag tags and framed course pictures in the Golf Shop that make fine commemorative gifts as well as etched wine glasses with the 50th Anniversary logo for sale. All those that ordered a 50th Anniversary flag, but have yet to pick theirs up, please see me at your earliest convenience. Although June was a bit down compared to last year in terms of financial results, the Club remains very healthy. July’s figures are not in yet of course, but I know we were busier than in previous years as it seemed like we had major member events every weekend. As the summer winds down, wedding season picks up again and we should see an increase in activity around the Club. Children all head back to school in the next week and I have to say that this summer was one of the busiest we’ve experienced in terms of junior participation and involvement. It is a wonderful sign of the influx of new families joining our Club and a sure sign for a healthy Club future. Our annual “Rhythm on the Range” concert is right around the corner and this year’s event will prove to be the biggest event ever, having sold out two weeks prior to the event! Over 1,200 tickets were sold this year and with the weather predicted to be very mild, our range will be packed with enthusiastic members and their guests. This year’s event features an outstanding band, fully stocked bar, (4) food vendors and tremen-

dous silent auction items and promises to be a night to remember. Don’t forget that a major amount of the proceeds are donated to our junior golf program and the Ripon Community Fund. As I mentioned last month, if you would like to have more of an impact on the direction of the Club, don’t hesitate to get involved. It’s time to start thinking about running for a position on the Board. We will be replacing (3) exiting Board members and need willing, committed candidates who have a passion for their Club, to think about serving for the next (3) years. One of our new 2016 Board members will more than likely be our future Club President after (2) short years! If you are interested or know of someone who is, I encourage you to let me know. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions, questions or concerns, my door is always open…

PLEASE REMEMBER TO DATE YOUR SCORECARDS.

es, Spring Creek Golf & Country Club’s Handicap Committee is actively checking scorecards and it makes it much easier to verify if the cards are dated. We are also checking daily play sheets to insure that if you are playing, you are also posting. Not posting is still happening all too often, so the Handicap Committee has reinstated the USGA, as well as Spring Creek Golf & Country Club’s policy of posting penalty scores. If a penalty posting shows up against your GHIN number, it more than likely is there because you have failed to post and the Committee caught it. If you disagree with the posting, attend the monthly Handicap meeting (5:00pm) on the second Wednesday of each month. In his book, “The Principals behind the Rules of Golf ” author Richard S. Tufts is quoted, “It is unfortunate that in a game as fascinating as golf, an appreciation of the Rules under which the game is played should be the exception rather than the order.” His book, “The Principals of Golf ” is a great read. His two great principals of golf are: (1) Play the course as you find it. Basically accept the conditions period. (2) Put your ball in play at the start of the hole, play only your own ball and do not touch it until you lift if from the hole. Let’s not forget that sign-ups for the NCGA Rules | 9 |

Training being held at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club are now being accepted online through the NCGA site. Look under Rules and Seminars and follow the instructions. Give me a call or email rfarb@ncga. com. NCGA officials will conduct the full day on-course training that will also include a lunch for only $40.00. This full day event will run from 8a.m. to 3p.m. and will include information on Teeing Grounds, Out-of-Bounds, Ball Unplayable, Lateral Hazards, Scoring and much more. Not much going on with July tournament play as only 16 players participated in the 2015 NCGA New Am Qualifier, however 6 qualified to move on to the next tournament. Moving on are Eric Parsons, Eric Armstrong, John Brennan, Lauren Bartels and Ron Nelson. However, August will again see the annual Steak Out tournament on Wednesday the 19th. Sign-ups will be on the board outside the pro shop. At our July meeting another discussion was held regarding where the Men’s club would like to play our annual awards away day. One of the possibilities is a two-day Reno getaway. Dennis Fogg is looking into that option. We are also looking at a drive to a one-day excursion such as Greenhorn or Saddle Creek, or busing again to Cache Creek is still an option.

ell, better late than never? Last month, as I was soaring at such a high elevation (with the #3 green project and all that it encompasses) I forgot to alert Y’all about what has been going on down here at ground level. From July 4th through Labor Day is the key time to promote the health and enjoy the quick recovery of warm season turf. With the drought being forefront in impacting and prioritizing all decisions right now, cultural practices have become even more important in order to sustain quality playing conditions and the need for less water. Aerification is the root of all golf course cultural practices. It has become imperative for us to utilize as many cultural practices as possible in order to strengthen our beloved turf. These practices give our turf a better chance of withstanding the current stress of our drought situation. Please bear with your Maintenance Staff as we aerify one hole per mid-week day (Monday through Thursday). Feel free to utilize the Rules of Golf in order to get relief from any fresh aerification holes. In order to have the best golf experience possible, please check with the Pro Shop for the Maintenance Schedule so that they can inform you where the “GROUND UNDER REPAIR” areas are located. This month, we will vent the greens August 3rd. By the time you read this, they will already be healed. This process of utilizing the open tiny holes will allow the seeding of bentgrass a great opportunity to germinate, which allows us to get needed products into the Poa root zone and aids in their breathing, by exchanging gases that are helpful to their survival through the entire summer. ello everyone. Thank you all for a wonderful July. July was a pretty busy month with 4th of July festivities, 50th anniversary celebrations and the Couples’ Invitational. As a staff we are doing our best to make sure all of the events and day-to-day operations are at their best. I thank you for all of your kind words and compliments towards my staff on their performance and efforts. It feels like summer just started and here we are entering the 8th month of the year. Our annual 4th of July Tournament and BBQ was well attended with over 130 members, their families and guests. Chef Eric and company prepared a great meal with hamburgers, hot dogs and BBQ chicken with all the fixings and including cold salads. July 17th was the Luau out in the well shaded grove, with over 100 members in attendance. We had tiki torches, a tiki bar, Hawaiian beers and cocktails, as well as snow cones. Oksana did a wonderful job with the decorations and family games. We also had professional hula dancing and island music. Chef Eric and staff prepared a wonderful array of Hawaiian style entrees, as well as a braised pig. July 18 was the Founder’s dinner and finale for our 50th Anniversary celebrations. Oksana took us down memory lane with a slide show, pictures and artifacts that brought back some great memories. We had the pleasure of serving many of the Founding members of this great Club. Chef and his staff prepared a

phenomenal meal with stuffed bell peppers and filet mignon. Herschel and his staff made sure that service was on point from beginning to the end, covering every last detail. All in all my staff and team did a great job on these very memorable events. Thank you all for letting us be a part of these memorable events. July 26 was the Couples Invitational, where member and guests were treated to champagne, mimosas and Bellini’s. There were 64 members and guests in attendance for this tournament and Chef Eric and staff put a delicious array of artesian sandwiches and cold salads together for lunch. We had a few wineries out to pour a complimentary wine tasting to cap off the day. Our “Wine of the Month” winery for the month of August will be Concannon Vineyards. We will have a representative here on August 5th to educate and pour complimentary wine, as well as have it available for purchase at a discounted rate. I have a limited quantity of 50th Anniversary wine glasses. They will go on sale (2) two for $15.00 accompanied by a Limited Edition Spring Creek 50th Anniversary bottle of wine. With a limited quantity they won’t last long - get yours before they sell out. “Rhythm on the Range” is right around the corner. August 8th is the date for this sold-out event. Hello everybody.

W

e had a fun month with Spring Creek Golf & Country Club’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. We braised a pig in our own kitchen and according to the compliments received it was enjoyed by all at the Luau. I had many of our members and their guests asking about the Poke we prepared, so I am going to share the marinade recipe with you as follows:

Marinade - 5 lbs. of sushi grade Ahi tuna diced in 1/2 inch cubes - 2 Cups of soy sauce - 3 Tablespoons of sesame oil - 2 Tablespoons of fresh grated ginger - 2 Tablespoons of grated garlic - 1 Tablespoon of Siracha sauce - 6 Green onions thinly sliced - 1 Yellow onion diced small Dice the tuna and reserve before service. By mixing all the ingredients, the marinade is ready to be used. If you wish to make less than 5 lbs. of Poke, just dice what you will need and use as much marinade ingredients necessary for a smaller amount of fish. (The tuna needs to be only coated.) Also, it is preferable to marinate just before serving, not too long in advance, as the tuna will become too saturated and lose its firmness. You can also serve it with Won-ton chips or rice chips. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me when you come to the Club.

NEWS OF NOTE After 5 rounds of the ECCI Tournament, the leaders consist of the following players: Kit Oase = 1st place with an astounding combined net score of 51; Larry Wing = 2nd place with a net score of 55; Larry Dovichi and Don Lundy are tied for 3rd place with net scores of 56. Lance Krajewski = 5th place with a net score of 57; Eric Grenbeaux = 6th place with a net score of 58 and Tom Johnston and Chuck Byrum are tied for 7th place with net scores of 59. The rest of us have one more opportunity to improve our combined scores on August 14th. Keep in mind that the proper handicapping of our tournaments and regular play is important and most of all vital from a fairness perspective. Please post all of your scores. Thanks. WEEKLY SCORES On Friday, June 26th, the Senior Men’s Club held a Guest Day with 35 total players. The Down & Out Group team of Jim Hoagland, Jon Holmquist, Jim Wing and Chuck Byrum took top honors shooting a team score of 127 playing a “Mettleresque” Flag format. The team of Roger Mettler, Bob Rickli, Larry Wing and Dennis Fogg placed 2nd with a score of 133. In the Fun Group, the team of Ralph Aquaro, John Lopes and John Stein placed 1st with a team score of 141. The team of Ron Greenwood, Bob Rake and Bob Burkett placed 2nd with a score of 148. Butch Marliani, Mr. May and Bob Dunbar placed 3rd with a score of 165. In the Cash Game, Jim Hoagland whupped everyone with a blistering net 62 (I believe that Jim is to be congratulated by shooting a gross score below or equal to his age); Jim Wing and Roger Mettler tied for 2nd place shooting net 66s; Paul Korte and Chuck Byrum tied for 4th place with net 68s; a mass of players tied for 6th place with net 69s consisting of Loren Suelzle, Larry Dovichi, Tom Johnston, Don Lundy, Nick Chipponeri and Eric Grenbeaux. Closest to the Pin prizes were awarded at Hole #7 to Don Lundy for 5’ 3” and Jim Hoagland for 7’ 8” and at Hole #12 to Jim Hoagland for 10’ 9. 5” and to Denney McCusker for 12’ 5”. (Please note that Mr. Hoagland had quite a successful day. ) I did not secure the score sheets for play on

July 3rd. On Wednesday, July 8th, 6 members of the Seniors Men’s Club played a Southern Valley Senior Golfer’s Association (SVSGA) Home & Away tournament hosted by Woodbridge GC. Loren Suelzle’s team took 1st place, the teams with Roger Mettler and Jim Hoagland tied for 3rdplace. Closest to the pin on #7 of the Lakes Course was Carl Collins at 12’ 8”. In regular play on Friday, July 10th, the Senior Men’s Club Down & Out Group team of Paul Korte, Carl Collins and Loren Suelzle with a blind draw from Larry Dovichi placed 1st with a score of 121 points per man playing a 2 best ball format. The team of Lance Krajewski, Jim Hoagland, Eric Grenbeaux and Don Lundy placed 2nd with a score of 125. The team of Larry Dovichi, Tom Johnston, Dave Skinner and Nick Chipponeri took 3rdplace with a score of 127. In the Fun Group, the team of Gene Mullen, Bob Burkett and Ron Greenwood placed 1st with a score of 30 playing a par point format. The team of Butch Marliani, Ralph Aquaro and Eddie Erdelatz placed 2nd with a score of 27 par points. In the cash game, Larry Wing shot a net 65 placing 1st;Kit Oase placed 2nd with a net score of 66; Tom Johnston and Larry Dovichi tied for 3rd place with net 67s;Jim Page and Don Lundy tied for 5th place shooting net 69s; and Rich Ellis and Jim Hoagland tied 7th place with net 70s. On Friday, July 17th, we held another Guest Day with 26 total players. The team of Denney McCusker, Tim Ragsdale, Jim Hoagland and Mr. Niles placed 1st with a combined score of 25 per man playing a par point format. The team of Larry Wing, Paul Korte, Loren Suelzle and Luke Sanny placed 2nd with a score of 21. 5 point per man. Pete Blasquez, Don Lundy, Bill Singleterry and Tom Johnston rounded out the winners at 3rdplace with a score of 19 point per man. In the cash game, Mr. Niles place 1st with a net score of 63; Chuck Byrum placed 2nd with a net score of 67; Tim Ragsdale, Paul Korte and Loren Suelzle tied for 3rd place with net 68’s; Tom Johnston and Rich Ellis tied for 6th place with net 71’s; and Bill Singleterry, Dave

CAPTAIN’S NEWS (Pam Stiles) August looks to be another busy month of golfing activity. Our Fall Stroke Play Tournament is scheduled a little earlier this year due to September events. The dates are August 13th, 18th, and 20th. The player with the lowest gross score of the entire field will be crowned our 2015 Club Champion. In addition, there will be awards for low gross and low net in each flight. See the bulletin board posting and sign-up sheet for more details. Participants must sign up to play by August 11th and the entry fee is $12. Good luck players!

16th. They were amazing. They were so young and eager to play their best game. The 12 year old we played with, out-drove us on almost every hole. Needless to say we used many of her drives. She was awesome to watch. The weather has been wonderful. August 6th is a guest day and I encourage all of you to bring a guest. We will be playing a new game I call, “One, Two, Three, Free.” Also, the Fall Tournament is August 13th, 18th and Championship round on the 20th. It will be stroke play. So I hope many of you sign up.

You must inform your partner or competitor of your intentions, and play it BEFORE you go forward to search for the ball. If you do not do so, that ball is not a provisional ball and becomes the ball in play under penalty of stroke and distance and the original ball is deemed lost. The player may play the provisional ball until he reaches the place where the original ball is likely to be. If the player makes a stroke with the provisional ball from the place where the original ball is likely to be or from a point NEARER the hole than that place, the original ball is lost and the provisional ball becomes the ball in play under penalty of stroke and distance. If the original ball is neither lost or OB, the player must abandon the provisional ball and play the original ball.

Upcoming WGANC Tournaments are: The Classic at Oakmont CC on August 26th and 27th, and The Stroke Play Championship in September on the 15th, 16th, and 17th. This 3-day tournament is being played at Del Rio, Turlock and Spring Creek Golf & Country Club. We are proud to be the host on the final day of this WGANC event! Drive slowly by other groups still finishing their round and maintain silence until out of earshot. ●Spring Creek Golf & Country Club allows the playing of music in individual carts ONLY if it is not distracting to other groups on the course. Please monitor the volume of your music so as not to distract other players or you may be asked to silence your music. ●Please remind any underage children that it is against Club policy to sit or stand at the bar. They are allowed to sit in the bar at a table to eat or drink non-alcoholic beverages, but are not allowed to loiter. ●Please remember to not proceed past the restrooms by the handicap computer when utilizing the Fitness Center during off-hours when the Clubhouse is closed. Even though the Fitness Center and locker rooms are unarmed when you enter the lower floor entrance with your key fob, the rest of the Clubhouse remains off limits and armed. | 15 |

he Niner’s have had a busy month entertaining and it has been such fun! Before I get to that, some business to take care of: Pairing people for August are Mary Shields (599-3641) and Roxanne Grubb (765-2390). We check in by 8:00 a.m. in the dining room each Tuesday so we are organized and ready to tee off on time at 8:30 a.m. If, for unforeseen circumstances you’re running late, give a courtesy call to Mary or Roxanne or the Golf Shop to let them know. Our Niner’s group is growing this summer. We have two new members this month: Kara Scott and Tamra Spade. Welcome, ladies. We hope you’ll enjoy our group as much as the rest of us do. On June 30, it was hot! We had two sizzling scores that beat our Pro (thanks, Sean). Both Deb Travaille and Heidi McCusker had a net 34. Way to go! We also had several pars that day: Deb and Tammy Miller parred #14. Jennifer Brennen (one of our newest members) parred #18. Roxanne Grubb parred #12 and Deb had a chip-in par on #11. Very nice job, ladies. On July 7, it was our Captain’s Trophy Day. It was won by Rosemary Bentley with the overall net score of 34. Excellent golfing, Rosemary! Four players tied for 16 putts: Rosemary, Roxanne, Beverly Salas and Tammy Miller. We had two flights of winners, also. First flight: Roxanne (first place); Tammy (second place); Linda Lundy and Bev (tied for third place). Second flight: Celia Wilson (first place); Peggy Ragsdale and Lolly Sargent (tied for second place); Anita Floyd (tied for third place). Our monthly guest day was held on July 14. We had 28 players with 6 guests. We played a Texas Scramble and the winners were: First place: Dee Nard and her guest, Gail Sawyer, Sharon Toal and Lolly. Tie for second place: Paula Suelzle and guest Muriel Reimche, Peggy and her guest Deb

Franzen, Jennifer, Linda, and Heidi. On July 21, we played our annual Home & Home with Modesto Muni and Oakdale Country Club. What a fabulous time we had celebrating our 50th Spring Creek Golf & Country Club’s anniversary and enjoying our guests! There were 72 players in all as we played two separate games (pink ball and better ball) on the back nine. Here are the results of the Better Ball: Heidi, Terry Wilder-Unruh (M), Carmen Ingols (M), and Susan Broadwell (O) won first place. Second place was Cindy Devisser (O), Cindy Coble (M), Bettie Loving (M) and Paula. Now, results for Pink Ball format: Susan Williams (M), Rosalie Schmierer (M), Ysabel Rockwell (O), Dee won first place. Coming in for second place was Naomi Monschein (O), Laura Heiser (M), Shirley Keyser (M) and our own, Anita Floyd. Special thanks for such a successful Home & Home: The Golf Shop, our kitchen and wait staff, our course Superintendent, Missy Stewart for being the Chairman of this event and seeing to it that all aspects of the tournament ran very smoothly. She was super organized! And special thank you to all our ladies and volunteers for going above and beyond to insure that our guests were welcomed and had a great time! OUR NEW EMPLOYEES Hello, my name is Ashley Edwards. I have recently joined the dining staff here at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club. Food service has always been in my blood. I can’t begin to explain how being a part of bringing a party to life behind the scenes makes me feel. Alongside work and having a year before I obtain my Associates Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences, I share this passion with my faith group. As the secretary of my church, as well as a member of the youth staff and their college and career leader, I do plan many events. My grandparents have instilled in me the importance of being polite and proper, which becomes very helpful in this business. As a former Miss 2013 California Queen, I was taught to present any piece of work in the most prestigious way possible to the business and I am happy to be on board to share this quality with Spring Creek Golf and Country Club.

We welcome new kitchen staff member Elizabeth Watkin. Elizabeth received her Culinary Arts degree in Baking and Pastry from San Joaquin Delta College in 2013. She has gained her experience from a couple of small cafés in Stockton and Lodi. Her most recent position was as part of the kitchen staff at Squeeze Burger in Lincoln Center, Stockton. Elizabeth will soon be moving to Ripon and is engaged to be married in September. She and her fiancé will be honeymooning in Ireland. Elizabeth looks forward to working with the talented staff here at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club and serving our membership.

Upcoming Men’s Club Events Club Championship August 1nd- 2nd Our prized event of the year will be a match play format. We will play in regular tee times starting at 8am. The cost for this event is $25 which includes prizes. Food is NOT included for this event. Steak Out August 19th This is one of the great guest events we hold each year. The format will be a 2-man best ball and we will have a shotgun start at 1pm. The cost for this event is $40 which includes dinner and prizes. Member Events Girls Night Out Every other Wednesday. Please see the schedule. Men’s Night Every Thursday night. Horse races will be every 3rd Thursday. Couples Twilight Every other Friday. Please see the schedule. “Rhythm on the Range” August 9th - This event is sold out! Golf Shop Merchandise Ladies, come get your “Rhythm on the Range” shirts before the big event on the 9th! We will be ramping up for our Invitational season in September, so keep your eyes peeled for new stuff in the pro shop starting middle of August. If you

like something we don’t have or don’t carry, please let us know and we can always custom order for you. Junior Golf Programs We had an amazing time teaching our young junior golfers this past month. We continue our junior programs with the Junior Development Class starting back up this month on Wednesdays from 3:30pm4:30pm. This is for ages 6 and older and is a terrific way to get your youngsters into the game of golf. Ask about other programs we offer and find a program or instructor to continue your son or daughter’s enjoyment of the game of golf! Fairway Conditions In an effort to continue the recovering health of our fairways you may notice a few of the fairways have been punched (have small holes every couple inches). This is to add oxygen to the soil and thin out the top layer of thatch so the grass doesn’t essentially choke itself. This will allow water penetration in these hot months and promote root growth. We recommend everyone play the ball up on these holes. To do that, you may mark your ball once in play, clean your ball and place the ball within 6 inches and no closer to the hole from the marked position.

These sometimes inconvenient maintenance practices are to benefit our members and our golf course, so we will have a beautiful healthy golf course when the weather starts to cool off and we have more play during the day. I hope everyone takes advantage of the rule and enjoys our wonderful golf course.

his summer has been incredibly busy for our Junior Programs. We had two fantastic junior camps with over 30 kids in each camp. Rounding out the summer camp tour, 12 of our athletes from Spring Creek Golf & Country Club participated in the NorCal Elite Performance Golf Camp. For those not familiar with the camp, Spring Creek Golf & Country Club and Del Rio Country Club partner to bring some of the top instructors in the country together for a week of intense training. Some of the celebrity instructors who attended were Dr. Jay Brunza, Dr. Glen Albaugh, Dr. Craig Farnsworth, Dr. Leanne Lee, Dr. Derron Lee, and LPGA Tour Player Jill McGill. It was an exciting week filled with learning visualization techniques, focus, visual therapy, golf fitness, eye dominance and its’ effects on

performance, AimPoint Express, Sports Psychology, tournament preparation, course management, full swing, short game and specialty shots. A HUGE THANKS to the Spring Creek Men’s Golf Association and the Spring Creek Senior Men’s Golf Association for generously providing two scholarships to two Junior Members of Spring Creek Golf and Country Club!!! Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the scholarships, Alexandra Gonzalez and Kika Dzoan. Another program that has been exciting for our juniors is the PGA Junior League. BOARD MEETING MINUTES DATE July 21, 2015 PRESIDING OFFICER Rod Reiswig DIRECTORS PRESENT Carl Collins, Richard Ellis, Tim Harris, Kevin Hawes, Rod Reiswig, Annette Schroen, Debra Van Essen MINUTES OF LAST MEETING Minutes from the June Board meeting were approved as presented. CORRESPONDENCE We received five correspondences of compliment which included two regarding the JGANC tournament. It was requested by Annette Schroen that all correspondences, including issues brought to the attention of the General Manager, be read at the Board meetings.

NEW BUSINESS SUPERINTENDENT Tree pruning and maintenance is underway based on our arborist report. Our Poa greens are difficult to manage during the summer. The staff is verticutting and topdressing the greens. Aerifying and verticutting the fairways are ongoing. Our water use reports are very positive year to date with over 25% savings. We are utilizing Bentgrass in the shady areas. #3 green renovation will start July 27, 2015 and should be seeded by September 10, 2015 if all phases of the project remain on schedule. MANAGER The forecasted revenues for the months of May and June seemed to have flip flopped. Although our profit was under budget we are still ahead for the year. June Employee

of the Month honor goes to Roxana Picos of our kitchen staff. Robin Velthoen will be formally retiring at the end of July. We welcome Nancy Stokke as our new Controller. Congratulations to Sherri Esparza as she has been promoted to Office Manager effective August 1, 2015. Ashley Ruelas will be on medical leave for an extended period of time and Oksana Sandler, along with the other office staff, will absorb the majority of her duties. Plans are for the member survey to go out to the membership at the end of July or first of August. The ten feet of extended fencing on the west side of our practice range is almost complete. The changes/updates for the Bylaws have gone out to the membership for their review and vote. The use and maintenance decision of club property along #9 adjacent to homes is on hold awaiting some additional estimates. Motion made by Kevin Hawes to accept the Robin Velthoen complimentary Social Membership offer and Policy; seconded by Debra Van Essen; unanimously approved. “Rhythm on the Range” is sold out at 1,200 tickets! FINANCE REPORT Total income for June was $344,036 or $3,936 above budget. Operating expenses for the month were $367,229 or $30,017 over budget. Net Profit/Loss in June was ($23,192) or $26,080 worse than budget and Non-Operating Income was ($395) or $5,597 better than budget. The total cost of sales in the bar was 39.3% and 45% in the restaurant. PRO SHOP/CART REPORT No report. SPORTS COMMITTEE The improvement in the cleanliness of the fitness center continues. | 22 |

It has been discovered that some of our equipment issues simply stem from the plugs coming loose from the outlets. Steve Hupe will follow up with staff to secure all the cords and cables around the equipment. Some events are not well attended perhaps due to the closeness in dates. The committee will take this into consideration when working with the 2016 calendar. Nancy Haug is spearheading “Girls Night Out” and it seems that attendance has increased and good comments received. The link for the Spring Creek Golf & Country Club Junior Scholarship program for 2015-2016 school year has been added to the website. Two applicants have been received with interviews scheduled. Shea Rollins and Shelley O’Keefe will be addressing our junior golf pricing structure, as well as the scheduling of the junior golf camps and clinics. GREEN REPORT Our water usage plan is right on course with the City of Ripon requiring a 25% reduction and we are currently at a 27.5%. Mike Stieler met with water pump meter experts and a decision was made on acquiring specific meters in 2016 that can meet our needs. Mike Stieler and the committee reviewed a report from Rumble Tree Arborist. The high priority needs will be addressed first and the remaining items will be completed as much as our budget will permit. Mike Stieler has suggested providing a restroom near the area where weddings are held. He will gather information for the next meeting. HOUSE/SOCIAL/PUBLICITY A great time was had by all who attended “Graffiti @ the Creek”. Plans are to continue choosing a later starting time for this event


on future calendars. The 4th of July event had a great turnout with over $700 raised for Junior Golf. Bingo also had a good number of participants. A bar menu is now being offered and the new quarterly menu is out and getting good reviews. Three pop-up shade structures will be purchased for outdoor events to shade food and employees from the sun. Fresh flowers for the Grille were discussed and decided against because of cost and maintenance issues. The golf shop staff will be monitoring towels in the fitness center and toiletries in both locker rooms. A fire pit, fans for the deck and a baby grand piano for the breezeway alcove were discussed as potential projects to be funded by some of the proceeds from “Rhythm on the Range”. Discussion continues regarding the six member owned carts being stored in the cart barn. Motion made by Annette Schroen to approve spending $1,200 for custom storage shelving for the many bins of clubhouse decorations; seconded by Debra Van Essen; unanimously approved.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT The committee acknowledges that the assigned ambassadors are making good connections with our new members. To date Ashley Ruelas has not connected with the Ripon Chamber of Commerce to integrate marketing for Spring Creek Golf & Country Club with their welcoming for new residences. The City of Ripon and the Ripon Chamber of Commerce have contracted with a marketing firm to create an interactive website featuring local businesses. A sales associate gave the committee a short presentation. The committee’s consensus was that the proposed video was too costly and would only target the Ripon area and to consider only utilizing the site as a link to our website. Discussion regarding lowering Proprietary memberships cap to 400 from 450 memberships in our Bylaws will continue. BUSINESS OPERATION The committee discussed the interviews/selection for replacing the Controller position. A thank you is extended to Tim Ragsdale, Kevin Hawes, Mike Garcia and Steve Hupe for their due diligence in the selection process for the Controller position. We are currently looking at a 7% increase in Liability/D & O insurance quote for 2015-2016. Our insurance carrier is reviewing costly hospital charges received by Shea Rollins for possible reimbursement. The committee plans to review our hiring policies. Tim Ragsdale requested that the topic of “Non Profit Status” be placed on the August committee meeting agenda. LONG RANGE/STRATEGIC PLANNING The committee is still reviewing the renovation and upgrading needs for our current pool area.
