The fun is back, according to the Stanislaus County Fair, and we at 209 Multimedia are excited to be a part of that. We will once again be sponsoring a day at the Fair, and this year we have the privilege of sponsoring the opening day.
This return to the full 10 days of animal exhibitors, carnival thrills and tasty fried treats prompted us to expand our annual Stanislaus County Fair preview special section into a magazine. We were pleasantly surprised by the outpouring of support from local businesses and organizations who partnered with us to make this magazine possible. Please give them your support in return.
The Fair is a special time of year in Stanislaus County. While the county is home to over half a million people, during Fair time it feels like the rural community that is the heart of the Valley. Make sure to take time to enjoy everything that the Fair has to offer. See you at the Fair!

Portuguese-style bullfighting — a Central Valley tradition — is coming to the Stanislaus County Fair.
The Turlock Pentecost Association Bloodless Bullfights will be in the FoodMaxx Arena at 6:30 p.m. July 10.
“We try to make each Fair better than the year before, having new exhibits and entertainment achieves that,” said Jose Piña, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair.
This style of bullfighting differs from the Portuguese-style in the fact that the bull isn’t hurt or killed. The same promise to not hurt the animal is not given to those who choose to step into the arena and test their courage against the bull. The forcados are the bullfighters. In Portuguese tradition, they taunt the animal in hopes that it will charge them. They follow the cavaleiros, who battle the bull from horseback into the arena. The bullfights have been created to always be bloodless.
The cavaleiros use a Velcro-tipped banderilla and a short spear-shaped tool, which attaches to a Velcro pad on the bull’s back. After the cavaleiros finish what they call their “dance with the bull,” the forcados enter the arena. They challenge the bull directly, aiming to grab the bull by the horns without any protection or defense. The forcados this year are Tiago Carreiras, Joao Soller-Garcia and Antonio Nuncio. These brave men will enter the arena and face the bull head on. Along with the bullfight, traditional bands like Filarmonica Portuguesa de Tulare will also be at the arena.
The Turlock Pentecost Association continues the tradition of their Portuguese heritage of celebrating faith and devotion to the Holy Spirit for over 108 years. Through generous support of the community, the Association extends a helping hand to those in need with college scholarships, shopping trips for underprivileged children, support for Turlock Together holiday charity, burial services for needy families, cancer awareness, and support for ALS patients, local FFA chapters, Valley Children’s Hospital, and Sacred Heart Parish.
Tickets for the Bloodless Bullfights are $15 to $20 and can be purchased at: stancofair.com or at the Fair’s box office, 900 N. Broadway, Turlock.

The ultimate BMX stunt show
Fair goers of all ages will be amazed this year with Robert Castillo’s BMX Freestyle Show. Castillo’s team will perform the craziest stunts on two wheels — and sometimes one — that has ever been seen.
Castillo is one of the most trusted and experienced names in the BMX entertainment industry. With 30 plus years of experience, fair goers are guaranteed to get an exceptional BMX freestyle stunt show.
In 1986, Castillo became a factory team rider for GT Bicycles. He went onto win three AFA National Championships. After nine years of touring with some of the biggest names in BMX, he had a desire to do more. In 1995, he became the GT Bicycles Air Show Team Manager and for 10 years he helped run their marketing program. Castillo also worked closely with GT Bicycles
Product Development Department and helped produce some of the most iconic BMX bikes in the industry.
By 1997, Castillo helped GT Bicycles Air Show program become the #1 trav-
eling BMX stunt show in the nation. As a rider, proven champion and performer, he has worked with the industries most recognized names, performed at every major theme park, including having his own act in the Vegas hit show “ALAKAZAM.”
A lot of Castillo’s ambition and love for the sport not only came from pro BMX riders that he looked up to, but from GT Bicycles founders Gary Turner and Rich Long. They are true pioneers in the sport of BMX and changed the lives of many, including Castillo’s.
And last but certainly not least Castillo still rides, performs, competes and recently was nominated to the 2019 Texas BMX Hall of Fame. He has utilized his experience, talent and skills to keep his dreams alive. Something he strives on is educating the youth of America with every opportunity given.

Fair music line-up
Once again, the Stanislaus County Fair will deliver an outstanding musical lineup from classic rock to country and a regional Mexican favorite.
The entertainment will start with a performance from the iconic rock band WAR on July 8.
“We are excited to welcome this legendary street band to the fair this year,” said Jose Piña, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “They have amazing hits that I know our guests are going to love.”
Multi-platinum-selling WAR, the original street band, has been sharing its timeless music and message of brotherhood and harmony for almost five decades before millions across the globe. WAR has sold more than 50 million records since its formation to include ten Billboard Top 10 hits. Top 40 hits include the
timeless classics “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “Low Rider,” “The World Is A Ghetto,” “The Cisco Kid,” and many more. WAR’s influence is still felt in modern times. With samples and nods by artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Flo-Rida, Thomas Rhett, Tupac, Smash Mouth, Janet Jackson, Dave Matthews, Korn, and countless others, it is evident that WAR remains a household name. More recently, LA Weekly declared WAR in the top 10 concerts of 2018. WAR has not only sealed their status as a household name, but has also proven that their music and messages continue to be as relevant as ever today as they have always been.
The rockstars that make up Smash Mouth will be at the Fair on July 9.
This year welcomes a shockingly improved and utterly re-energized Smash Mouth with the proud intro-

duction of their hugely-talented new front man Zach Goode.
The New York City-born, Los Angeles-based Goode boasts a dazzlingly impressive, never-ending list of stage credits as both actor and singer. His beautifully rough-and-tumble — yet pitch-perfect and rangy — vocal style instantly proving a perfect match for Smash Mouth’s beachy brand of high energy alt-pop.
A look back at Smash Mouth’s formative years shows a band determined to make an impact from the get-go. Formed in late 1994, the band immediately begins recording demos and showcasing in both San Jose and Hollywood. In June of 1997, Smash Mouth is signed to Interscope Records when label brass catch wind of an unknown (and unsigned) band being added to monumentally influential L.A. radio station KROQ’s playlist after only one spin of their song “Walkin’ On The Sun.”
Smash Mouth’s major-label debut “Fush Yu Mang” goes more than double
platinum and sets the table for what most consider their masterpiece; 1999’s brilliant follow-up album “Astrolounge.”
Boasting three top 10 hits (“All-Star,” “Then The Morning Comes,” “Can’t Get Enough Of You Baby”), sales for “Astrolounge” nearly double those for “Fush Yu Mang,” approaching nearly quadruple platinum status.
Karla Perez with The Ultimate “Selena” Tribute will take to the stage on July 10.
No one else captures the sound, style, looks and complete essence of Selena like Perez. She has proven time and time again over the past four years why she is widely regarded as the top-rated Selena tribute artist in the United States and Mexico. Perez has been performing for Selena fans across the country making each performance an astonishing
experience. It is simply the closest you can get to a live Selena concert.
She began her musical career at a very young age recording jingles for political campaigns, for radio stations, commercials, as well as winning singing competitions and auditioning for “La Academia,” “Objetivo Fama,” and “La Voz México” reality shows. Perez’s charisma and ability to captivate the audience so well comes from being a lead singer for many versatile bands playing at private parties, bars and

Double Platinum Hip Hop star Sean Kinsgton will perform at the Fair on July 11.
Dedicating nearly his entire life to music and achieving superstardom when he was just 17, Kingston has amassed an untold amount of experience as a singer/ songwriter over the years. On his third-full length album “Back 2 Life,” the 23-year-old builds on that experience by greatly expanding his songwriting role, nixing the
multi-producer approach of his last release, and pushing for a fresh new sound. Like his 2007 self-titled debut (featuring the double-platinum breakout hit “Beautiful Girls”) and sophomore album “Tomorrow” (featuring the smash singles “Fire Burning” and “Face Drop”), “Back 2 Life” fuses reggae, hip-hop, R&B, and electro to create melody-soaked pop. But on “Back 2 Life, the singer/songwriter blends his newly strengthened vocals with fiercely inventive effects and hard-hitting live instrumentation—a formula that’s yielded his most passionately inspired work to date.
With a voracious appetite for music including “everything from Taylor Swift to Ne-Yo to Musiq Soulchild to Paramore”—as well as a deep reverence for artists like Bob Marley, Outkast, and Lauryn Hill—Kingston has recently broadened his musical role by serving as a songwriter for such performers as Jason Derulo (“What Ya Say”) and Iyaz (“Replay”) and discovering new musical talents (including Iyaz, whom Kingston found online and signed to his Time Is Money Entertainment label). Still, having sold more than 12.5 million tracks to date, Kingston’s top priority is continually elevating his own music into new and unexpected territory.
“A lot’s happened over the past few years—I’ve traveled the world and had relationships and dealt with

breakups, so I’m singing from the heart about things that I actually went through,” said Kingston.
In capturing those experiences on “Back 2 Life,” he adds, his main ambition was to keep positive.
“I knew I needed to address some difficult things on the album, but my goal was to do it in an upbeat sort of way,” said Kingston. “So, the songs on ‘Back 2 Life’ are catchy and up-tempo and everyone can have a great time to them—but at the same there’s no
doubt that it’s all the way real.”
The talented country artist Gary Allan will perform on July 12.
With the allure of a modernday outlaw, Allan has won over fans, peers and critics with his signature blend of smoldering vocals, rebellious lyrics and raucous live performances. While becoming a force on the country music scene, Allan has remained true to his artistic voice each step of the way. “RUTHLESS,” Allan’s first new album in eight years,
was released in June 2021. The 13-song album feature songs produced by Mark Wright, Tony Brown, Greg Droman, Jay Joyce, and Allan himself. Allan re-signed with Universal Music Group Nashville in 2016, the label home for the entirety of his 20-plus year career. His last album, “SET YOU FREE,” topped the Billboard 200 (Pop Chart), a career first for Allan.
The album also made its debut at the top of the Billboard Country Album chart (for the fourth time in a row) and produced his fifth #1 country radio chart topper with “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain).” The California native released his first album, “USED HEART FOR SALE,” in 1996 and since then has released eight additional studio albums selling over 8 million albums, been certified platinum on three back-to-back albums, and been certified gold five times. Allan has five #1 hits on country radio, 14 Top 10 hits to his credit and amassed over 2.8 billion total streams.
The Stanislaus County Fair will welcome modern rock legends Sugar Ray on July 13.

somewhere on the internet.
However, Sugar Ray might just outlast them all. After over three decades, a world without the group—cofounded by Mark McGrath (vocals) and Rodney Sheppard (lead guitar)—feels downright unfathomable. Beyond sales of 10 million records, four top 10 songs, streams in the hundreds of millions, and millions of tickets sold, the band embody the endless summer of popular music and culture.
“You could say we’re still performing because the music means a lot to us,” said McGrath. “However, the real reason is it means a lot to so many other people. All the time, we hear fans say, ‘Boy, those songs were so important to me growing up’ or ‘I listened to you on my first date with my girlfriend, and now she’s my wife’. I’m the last guy to brag about this band and the first one to make fun of it, but we wrote some killer tunes.”
1994’s “Lemonade & Brownies” took the guys around the world and earned cult classic status for its frenetic and unpredictable hybrid. It set the stage for “FLOORED” in 1997. The latter’s immortal lead single “Fly” [feat. Super Cat] made them a household name.
Twenty-one years down the road, Post Malone incorporated “Fly” in “Sugar Wraith” on the triple-platinum “beerbongs & Bentleys.” Helmed by GRAMMY Award-winning producer David Kahane, “FLOORED” earned the band’s first gold plaque and eventually went double-platinum. Two years later, “14:59” bowed in the Top 20 of the Billboard Top 200, went triple-platinum, and gave us “Someday,” “Falls Apart,” and their second #1 “Every Morning.” In 2001, Sugar Ray crashed the Top 200 at #6 as “When It’s Over” staked out a spot on the charts. It added another platinum plaque to their walls. Enjoying a renaissance, Sugar Ray headlined the Under the Sun Tour 20132015. They inked a deal with BMG in 2019 and dropped their seventh full-length, “Lil Yachty.”
Grammy Award R&B Hip Hop artists Bone Thugs -NHarmony will be at the Fair on July 14.
In 1991 a group of four young street-hardened boys by the name of B.O.N.E. Enterpri$e used their musical talents to obtain one way bus tickets to make their way out from the rough city of Cleveland, Ohio. They headed out to Los Angeles

and were determined to perform for the top record labels at the time. They constantly called in to prove themselves. Their efforts paid off when they rapped over the phone to legendary N.W.A. member, Eazy E, who owned Ruthless Records. They displayed their melodic rapid-fire lyrics with group harmony.
Eazy E, who was having a show in their hometown sent the group back on the bus to sign contracts under a new name, Bone Thugs -n- Harmony. While the group name changed, the boys kept their aliases Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, and Wish Bone
Eazy put them on a fast track to display their talents to the world. In 1994 the boys cranked out their debut EP “Creepin On Ah Come Up” with hit singles “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” and “Foe Tha Luv of $” which featured their mentor, Eazy E and Layzie’s brother Flesh-n-Bone. The group’s style brought a breath of fresh air to hip hop at the time that the album went double platinum in a few months. It didn’t take long for
them to release their second album “E.1999 Eternal” which told more stories of their lives in Cleveland. Shortly before the release of the album, Eazy E passed away.
Without their mentor around to see their careers through to the highest points that he could have propelled them to, the boys took it upon themselves to put a new spin on their song “Crossroads” and added a tribute to Eazy E. What came out was their greatest single “Tha Crossroads” which has sold millions around the globe and even won them a Grammy. Since then, the group released a few more albums under Ruthless Records; double album “Art of War” in 1997, “BTNHResurrection” in 2000, “Thug World Order” in 2002, and “Thug Stories” in 2006. In 2007, they signed with Interscope Records and worked with Swiss Beats to create “Strength & Loyalty.” In 2010 with much fan input through, “Think Tanks” the group released “Uni5: The World’s Enemy.”

These days the Bone Boys can still be seen and heard on various social media platforms, engaging with fans by continuing to tell stories with their fast melodic rap style and straight discussions. Eazy E passing away did not stop the group from still selling millions around the world, but little did they know that they would be fast tracked to legendary status and affecting the whole music industry into following their style.
“The Voice” winner Danielle Bradbery will perform at the Fair on July 15.
Powerhouse vocalist Bradbery has come a long way since kickstarting her career at just 16-years-old as Season 4 winner of “The Voice.” Spending the past decade growing into her artistry, the Texas native has honed her skills and defined her sound while pouring her heart into lyric – earning multiple award nominations and touring across the globe with some of the biggest stars in country music along the
way. Facing the challenges brought on by the pandemic head on, Bradbery spent her time creating music she loves, infusing her own heartfelt and personal stories into songs like “Never Have I Ever” and “Girls In My Hometown.” As Bradbery prepares to embark on an exciting new chapter, she has released “IN BETWEEN: THE COLLECTION” (Big Machine Records) featuring 10 tracks representing the different chapters in her musical journey, including brand new track “Look At The Mess I’m In,” and “Stop Draggin’ Your Boots” as well as the heart-wrenching “Break My Heart Again.”
The latter track she premiered earlier this year on NBC’s Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships: Prevagen Skating Spectacular in a powerful performance alongside Olympic skater Karen Chen.

to making music during the COVID era, on Aug. 6, 2021 via Frontiers Music Srl. The Album is available on CD, color vinyl (a variety of limited-edition versions), and digital. The band began writing the album in early 2020, amid the rise of the global pandemic. After narrowing down the song selection and tightening them up to their well-known rock ‘n roll sound, the band hit the studio, although separately, due to the times the country was in. Throughout
ATBPO Night Ranger continues their hot streak that kicked off with 2011’s “Somewhere in California.” Ten years on, and two highly acclaimed albums later, “High Road” and “Don’t Let Up,” the band’s latest studio work shows them still burning with that high octane hard rock energy.
Having sold over 17 million albums worldwide, performed across more than 4,000 stages, and captivated a radio audience that exceeds 1 billion,
THEN NOW
Night Ranger has both epitomized and transcended the arena rock sound and style well beyond that era. The band continue to grow their ever-evolving fan-base and they are proof that powerful songs alongside, incredibly talented musicians is the perfect formula for continued success. Night Ranger have earned widespread recognition that includes both multi-platinum and gold album status all while leaving their indelible mark on the music industry with a long list of best-selling albums (“Dawn Patrol,” “Midnight Madness,” “7 Wishes,” “Big Life” and “Man In Motion”). Their popularity is fueled by an impressive number of instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks, including legendary titles such as “Sister Christian,” “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me,” “When You Close Your Eyes,” the anthemic “(You Can Still) Rock In America,” along with “Sentimental Street,” “Goodbye,” and “Sing Me Away.”

Luis Miguel Gamez, better known as Luis Coronel, is one of the most renowned young exponents of the Mexican regional genre today in both the United States and Mexico. Coronel is originally from Tucson, Arizona of Mexican parents and is the youngest of three siblings.
In 2012, while still a teenager and as his ‘millennial’ generation does, Coronel used social networks to make friends, share photos, videos and connect with a group of followers who would eventually become his fans. At that time, he did not imagine that through his interactions on the networks, he was preparing to formally start a career in the world of music.
His biggest surprise happened when, after posting his own version of the song by Mexican composer Horacio Palencia “Mi Niña Traviesa” on Facebook, the next day he woke up to discover that his post had received thousands of ‘likes’ on the social network, becoming in a viral video. In this way, Coronel began in the world of entertainment.
Since then, he has conquered the Billboard charts with his music, has become a personality in the most popular television programs in Mexico and the United States, and has had endless tours alongside important figures such as Gerardo Ortiz, Los Recoditos and Banda El Recodo.
Thanks to his unique musical style, Coronel became the youngest soloist to reach # 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums Charts at age 13 (in the billboard’s 21-year history), a feat made possible thanks to his album “Quiero Ser Tu Dueño,” which was certified as Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
In 2014, Coronel celebrated being named “Male Artist of the Year” during Premios Lo Nuestro. Demonstrating that in addition to singing like no one else has other skills, he co-hosted the live online broadcast of the show behind the scenes, interviewing the winners and other celebrities from the American Airlines Arena in Miami.

in 2015, taking home key awards such as “Best New Artist” at the Billboard Music Awards and Radio Awards, and as “Artist with Most Potential Success” as well as being awarded for “Best Song de Amor” during Premios De La Calle.
In January 2016, Coronel shared the stage with other big names in the industry, including Aerosmith, George Benson, NeYo, Rick Ross and The Jackson 5, among others, shining as the only Latin artist at the Monster Retailer Awards and Concert 2016.
In 2016, thanks to his talent and his enormous influence in the industry, “Premios Lo Nuestro” awarded him two important awards to take home: “Album of the Year-Regional Mexican” and “Male Artist of the Year-Regional Mexican. “
All shows are set to begin at 8:30 p.m. on the Coors Light Variety Free Stage and are free with the price of Fair admission.

1910s
Turlock‘s first ever Melon Carnival was held in 1911 in Turlock‘s downtown and included a melon rolling contest, baseball games with Turlock vs. Oakdale and a parade.
1920s
In 1927 a sevenacre plot of ground was acquired as a permanent location for the carnival, and in 1929, the Fairgrounds’ Arch Gate was constructed using smooth river boulders.

1930s
In the 1930s, the Stanislaus District Fair succeeded the melon carnivals and the first Kiddie Kapers Parade was held, where youth from Turlock paraded in costumes. This parade became a popular event that some considered to be the highlight of the Fair for its 18-year run.
1940s
The Fair was not held during World War II at which time JapaneseAmericans were assembled at the Fairgrounds for 3 ½ months before being relocated to inland areas of the U.S. For the remainder of the war, the grounds were used by the Army as a Rehabilitation Center. An annual carnival was still held downtown, sponsored by a citizens committee to aid wartime relief.

1950s
The 1950s saw the construction of the arena grandstands, as well as a Roller Rink in one of the current exhibit buildings. The 1959 Fair featured a Hawaiian theme in honor of the new state, during which entertainers were flown in directly from Hawaii for special performances.
1960s
The 1960s brought many firsts to the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. The first CSU Stanislaus classes were held before the college moved to its current location, the first livestock auction and the first replacement heifer sale were held and Patricia Gaard became the first woman appointed to the Fair‘s Board of Directors.

The Fair expanded to nine days in 1981, and in 1989 a Fair attendance record was made when 261,089 persons attended – this record is still unsurpassed.
1990s
In 1994 the Fair expanded to its current 10-day length and opened its on-site satellite wagering facility, the Turlock Turf Club. In 1999, the Fair‘s Board of Directors with support of the Turlock American Legion resolved that the Stanislaus County Fair Arch Gate be recognized as a California State Point of Historical Interest.
2000s
The world changed dramatically during the turn of the millennium. The rapid development of new technology changed society and The Stanislaus County Fair was no exception. Internet access was made available to vendors needing point of sale transactions on their computers, the Fair launched a new website, and many guests were able to purchase Fair tickets in the convenience of their homes. The Fair also promoted going “green” with its many green initiatives around the Fairgrounds.

2010s
Prior to the 2010 Fair, a dedication ceremony honoring the Japanese Americans involved in the Turlock Assembly Center of 1941 was held and a memorial was erected near the Floriculture building. On April 16, 2011 a reported time capsule inside the Arch Gate pillars and behind the gold shields, was finally unveiled to reveal two glass jars containing written names and documents from American Legion Rex Ish Post No. 88 and the Ladies Auxiliary. The jars and scrolls will be displayed in the centennial exhibit during the 2011 Fair and will later be donated to the Turlock Historical Society.
