Ciara and Zachary’s love story began with a friendly game of bowling. The two met when they and a group of mutual friends got together to bowl. At one point in the evening pictures were taken and Ciara and Zachary were pushed together. “I literally sat on his lap and didn’t even know him,” Ciara said about their first meeting. Zachary asked Ciara to send him a copy of the picture — and with it got her phone number. “He asked me out the very next day,” she said. A year and half after that first meeting on the lanes, Zachary took Ciara on a special
outing to Hidden Beach in Aptos. “He actually couldn’t do surprises at all — until the engagement,” Ciara said.
A June wedding “The venue was my first choice in planning the wedding,” Ciara said. Ciara and Zachary will celebrate their love among the aromatic fields of Pageo Lavender Farm on Golf Road in Turlock. Shabby chic will be the general style of the wedding and reception, chosen to complement the rustic setting of the lavender farm. While the bride will be wearing a traditional wedding dress —with a strapless textured corset bodice and a floor-length tulle skirt — the groom and his party will be
donning suspenders and bow ties in shades of grey. The bridesmaids will be wearing grey also in strapless tea-length dresses. Matching teal colored necklaces will add a splash of color. Ciara also chose a vintage-style flower necklace to accent her dress. The bride’s bouquet will be made up of white hydrangeas, stephanotis and baby’s breath. The bridesmaids will carry white hydrangeas wrapped in grey silk. In honor of her dad and his family’s history of farming baby’s breath, the delicate flower will also be featured in the table arrangements. The wedding ceremony will include a unique family tradition and personal touches. Ciara and Zachary will continue one of

her family traditions of pouring white and black sand into a decorative vase. The sandfilled vase will then be placed in their home as a visual reminder of their union. Ciara and Zachary will personalize their wedding ceremony by writing their own vows. “It’s more memorable and special than the traditional vows,” Ciara said. After the ceremony, the celebration will continue under the stars at the lavender farm. Guests will be directed to their seats from a large chalkboard seating arrangement that matches the mini chalkboards at each table. Sling backs - Showing a flirty flash of heel, sling backs are dynamic and sexy - perfect for walking down the aisle and kicking up your heels during the reception. Look for a sling back with a lower heel that will be more comfortable for extended wearing. Straps should be snug but not too tight to avoid chafing on the back of the heel. Too loose straps may cause the shoe to slip off your foot, so a proper strap fit is important. Whatever style you choose, some advice is universal: * Very high heels place pressure on your feet, shifting your entire body weight. If you plan to wear your heels throughout the entire ceremony and reception - likely more than two hours - consider choosing a heel of no more than two inches. Or, save the very high heels for the ceremony and switch to a lower, more comfort-

able heel for afterward. * Brightly colored or patterned wedding shoes are in vogue now, and while color doesn’t affect comfort the material might. Materials that provide stability and stretch may be better for your feet. Avoid plastic, vinyl and other materials that don’t allow feet to breathe. * Shoes should have a flexible sole that allows toes to bend naturally when you walk and a rigid, cushioned heel counter to keep the foot in place inside the shoe. * Inserts are a great way to help cushion heels, arches and the balls of your feet. It’s easy to find inserts that work with virtually any style of wedding shoe. * When shopping for your wedding shoes, keep in mind that - like any shoe - they should be comfortable immediately. Never buy uncomfortable shoes thinking that you’ll “break them in.” And shop for your bridal shoes at the end of the day. Not only do most weddings take place later in the day, your feet swell to their largest in the evening. Buying your wedding shoes at that time of day will ensure you get the best fit.

The wedding shoe trend for everyone: pain-free and pretty

(BPT) - Sparkles, spangles and color, new or vintage, whatever your preference in wedding shoe styles there’s one trend that every bride should get behind: comfort. “Pretty flats and even tennis shoes have been gaining popularity among brides for several years, and while those styles may not be to everyone’s taste, the concept of comfortable wedding shoes is good for everyone,” says Dr. Crystal Holmes, a doctor of podiatric medicine and spokesperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association. While an APMA survey indicates that most women do emphasize comfort over looks when choosing dress shoes, brides may consider comfort less important than style on their big day. “Brides may think that since they’re only wearing their wedding shoes for a day, it doesn’t matter if the shoes make their feet hurt,” Holmes says. “But shoes that hurt your feet can cause long-term problems, and make
existing ones even worse. Sore feet can put a damper on your wedding, reception and even honeymoon.” The APMA offers some advice for choosing the most comfortable options in some popular wedding styles: Pumps - A classic wedding shoe, bridal pumps come in a wide variety of styles, colors and heights. When choosing a pump, be aware that pointy shoes place pressure on the toes and can aggravate problems like hammertoes and bunions. Choose pumps with deep, wide toe boxes that give you plenty of room to wiggle your toes. Keep in mind lower heels are better, especially if you’ll be in your wedding shoes for several hours. Ballet flats - Flirty, feminine and fun, ballet flats can feel more comfortable than heels. But very flat shoes can actually be harmful to your arch and heel. Opt for a flat that has a bit of a heel, a thicker sole, and plenty of cushioning and support. Avoid flats that bend in half or easily twist.
Kitten heels - When it comes to good looks and foot-friendly design, kitten heels are the cat’s meow. Typically lower than one inch, kitten heels add a touch of height without placing undue pressure on the ball of the foot that higher heels can cause. They also tend to be a bit wider than the average heel, making them more stable and comfortable. Platforms and wedges - Towering platforms and wedges provide height, style and endless options. But wearing these higher styles requires brides to take extra caution. Platforms and wedges may compromise your balance and stability, and very high shoes can lead to ankle rolls and falls. Look for lower platforms and wedges that feature secure ankle straps. Cork bottoms provide some shock absorption and traction. Peep toes - Popular among brides who want to show off their pretty pedicures, peep toes range from towering heels to functional flats. Regardless of heel height, peep

typical dress.” The reception area will be decorated with linen, flowers and the best tableware that reflects the enchanted outdoor theme. “I was fortunate enough to have everything taken care of from the staff of the River Mill,” said Christa. “They will be doing everything from arranging the flowers, food, setup, centerpieces and the cake.” As for the wedding cake, Christa and Terrance opted for one that incorporated their favorite flavors. The cake will be a squared multi-tiered cake filled with different flowers. Their latest ideas have included red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and the traditional white cake with strawberry filling. “Instead of feeding each other cakes during the reception, we have decided to feed each other chocolate covered strawberries. It’s different, it’s innovative and plus he’s allergic to wheat so he can’t eat cake,” joked Christa.

We would do everything together like going to the gym and have study sessions. We had so much in common that it wasn’t a surprise for both of us that we wanted to be together. After I ended my relationship we talked about being together,” said Christa. Though Terrance and Christa had an undeniable friendship for many months, Terrance took the initiative to take their relationship to the next level. “I told him I didn’t want to go public until we were both sure we wanted to be in a relationship. He wanted to date me but he was also working for my dad at the time. We didn’t want to jeopardize his job in any way or form,” said Christa. “One day he decided to talk to my dad and invited him to lunch to break the news to him. My dad was impressed by his respectful attitude and gave him his blessing. We’ve been happily together ever since.” Christa never quite understood what it meant when couples realize their infinite love for one another. It took a wedding, a special waltz and a secret confession between Terrance and Christa’s sister for her to realize she wanted to spend the rest of

her life with Terrance. “It was the day of my sister’s wedding, which also landed on our sixth month a n n i v e r s a r y, ” said Christa. “At one point of the night Terrance exchanged a dance with my sister and I notice he whispered something in her ear. Later that night my sister confessed to me that Terrance had told her that he wanted to marry me. Instead of freaking out, I had a gut feeling and I just knew. This is the guy I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”

His proposal could not have been more perfect. It was public enough for our entire friends and family to see but private enough where he could talk to me on a personal level. It was the best day of my life.”

A love for animals and a beautiful friendship brought Christa Brooks and Terrance Truax together in the summer of 2008. It was Terrance’s first day as a veterinary technician at Taylor
Veterinary Hospital and the moment he walked in the clinic, Christa took notice. “I was working as a receptionist the first day Terrance stepped foot at the veterinary clinic. He walked up to the office manager that morning and I thought to
myself, ‘who is that guy?’ We’ve never had a cute guy work at our office before so I was intrigued,” Christa admitted. But as fate would have it, their chemistry for each other developed into an everlasting friendship.

Woodman had previously worked with Rita and Hanibal when he did their engagement photo shoot session in Half Moon Bay. Rita and Hanibal shone brightly in the photographs as the camera captured their love. Though photographs depict a thousand words, there is nothing quite like watching a movie of the future unfold. Ator and Anita Nisan of Extreme Vision Films will also be part of ceremony and provide a cinematographic view of the ceremony, decorations, and guests all while light, loving music plays in the background.

Rita Youanis and Hanibal Taryorn did not know that they were destined to be together when they first met through mutual friends at Skewers Kabob House on July 5, 2007. In fact, Rita and Hanibal had a less than successful first encounter. It was the day after the fourth of July, and the array of fireworks the evening before could not ignite a spark between the two. “He was sun burned from spending the day at the lake. I kind of blew him off and was rude to him [when] he introduced himself to me,” Rita admitted. But as fate would have it, Hanibal and Rita crossed paths again the next day in downtown Modesto. “It must have been destiny,” Rita said about their second encounter. Rita rarely went out on weekends, but was persuaded by her friend in joining her for a night out. Hanibal was granted a second chance. This time, Rita was swept off her feet. “I don’t remember how it happened, but we danced all night and he held my hand. It was an unforgettable summer night. ” Though Hanibal and Rita were unable to exchange numbers at the time, they were able to utilize the Internet to their advantage and exchange information. They’ve been dating ever since, and will mark their sixth anniversary on July 5; the day they met.
The proposal Hanibal had something special in mind for his proposal. The couple attended “Skates on the Bay” in Berkeley last year; a romantic waterfront dining area, where they indulged in wild Alaskan sockeye salmon grilled with Bing cherry sauce and roasted baby vegetables. Rita suspected a proposal, due to the scenic view and exceptional meal, but was promised nothing. Instead, the ever charming Hanibal had Rita close her eyes until they reached their next destination for dessert. When Rita opened her eyes, she saw that Hanibal had led her to a gondola on the bay, with candles, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The rower, from Italy, sang Italian songs, while onlookers marveled at Hanibal’s efforts. “I was beyond ecstatic,” said Rita. “I was speechless. In the middle of the bay on the gondola ride, I remember it was sunset. He was sitting next to me and he started to tell how he loved me very much. He then kneeled before me and asked me to marry him. I was
in tears of joy. I wish I could relive that day over and over again.” Shortly after the proposal, Rita and Hanibal marked Nov. 2, 2013 as their wedding day.
An elegantly enchanted wedding The wedding Rita and Hannibal have planned will be both elegant and enchanting. The color theme is Tiffany blue with a touch of silver and ivory to incorporate a tastefully modern fairytale appearance. The groom will be wearing a Vera Wang black and white suit with a black bow tie, while the groomsmen sport grey suits and tiffany blue slim ties to compliment the silver decorations. The bridesmaids will be featured in tiffany blue gowns to match. Rita has visited Bianca’s Bridal and
has already tried on a few designs that she loves. “Their service was amazing, the staff was very kind and helpful. I have found the perfect dress yet but I’m getting closer! I particularly liked the tight dress fit,” said Rita. The bride will be adorned in a Maggie Sotterro dress, incorporating beads and lace in a mermaid fashion with a handmade floral accent ruffled skirt tulle, and corsage closed with Swarovski crystals. The ceremony is to take place at Turlock Covenant Church with Pastor Bob Horton from Calvary Chapel Modesto, and will feature an American traditional ceremony, including a vow exchange between the bride and groom. The reception will be held at the Assyrian American Civic Club in Turlock, and was chosen due to the large guest list, which comprises roughly 600 participants. Originally the couple wanted to have their reception in Monterey, but found that it was much more rewarding to spend money on their guests instead of venue. “If anyone wants to go to our wedding, then I want to have them there,” said Rita. The wedding venue will be decorated with linen, flowers, and chandeliers for a romantic, sleek and modern appearance

formal, but recently, I have seen some new things. Sometimes, they add a twist to the picture, and show the couple snowboarding, or doing something that both of them love. Some go on location to where they may have met. “I’ve even seen some crazy ones done on a baseball field. Wedding photographs are starting to inspire brides on popular sites like Pinterest, which promote tons of ideas. But you also see a lot of fun, Photoshopped images.” Many personalized favors that have the couples’ picture include decks of cards, Jones soda bottles, candles, lighters, or small glass jars.

Color Combinations Practically any color can be used in weddings, no matter how multi-colored or vibrant the pattern may be. Color combinations have changed throughout the years, and depend upon the seasons or preferences of the bride and groom. But Cole has seen peach come out as the big winner. The soft, romantic color is kicking down the current competition, and making a comeback, and is often combined with a modern color palette. Light colors also add a vintage vibe, which is one of the most popular themes. After peach, Cole said any shade of purple is the next most popular color. “One of the reasons most couples choose it is because it is an easy color to mix and match. You can do green and purple, blue and purple, anything you wanted. Tons of flowers also come in purple, which makes it easy to pair them with any other color,” said Cole.
Mermaid style “As of right now, white fit and flairs or mermaid dresses are everyone’s favorite style to wear,” Cole said. “Anything that is tighter up top and flows near the bottom is very popular. “Although, I have noticed that a lot of dresses have stopped being strapless. I am seeing more gowns with straps or sleeves for the shoulders, thanks to Princess Kate Middleton. You were lucky you could find
a dress that wasn’t strapless within the last 10 years. Most brides are moving away from that because they tend to be very uncomfortable. You have to realize that you are going to be in that dress for 8 or 10 hours, or even more depending on your situation.”
Valley comfort food According to Cole, the standard dinner for most Central Valley receptions is tri-tip and chicken. The dual meat entrees continue to be the most-requested menu items. Presenting the food is just as important as preparing it, and often the seasonings and sides can run up the bill. However, Cole believes that a new feature for food is gaining traction. “I call them ‘foodies,’ because they are miniature sizes of regular food,” she said. “Anything miniature is a hit. We’ve presented little shots of milkshakes, mini cupcakes, or mini anything. It is actually really fun, and most people love them. We’ve actually had a couple who was given midnight mini milkshakes, garlic fries and mini sliders on the side.”
Sweet and savory At today’s weddings, the cake may not be the sweetest part of the evening. Some couples are even choosing to forego the traditional wedding cake for a selection of their favorite foods, such as sushi, cheese, or vegetables. Those who do choose cake are going

Last week saw the official start of spring, which means that wedding season is in full bloom. Some couples are getting ready to say their “I dos” as others are just beginning the planning stages of a 2014 wedding. For Lori Cole of Events & Lucky Penny Boutique, providing a fairytale wedding is just another day at the office. So what are the current trends in the Central Valley?
Rustic Chic The most common theme local couples choose, according to Cole, is rustic weddings set in a natural outdoor site with elegant touches of candles, chande-
liers, or even small furnishings. “Anything farm related or working farm is very popular for venues,” said Cole. “Anything set in wine country is fun. In Turlock, Pageo Lavender Farms is very nice for outdoor weddings. Being outdoors in the Central Valley consistently continues to be a huge theme. We have wonderful weather, and everyone comes from a working farm background, or at least has grown up around it. “I’ve had weddings take place in almond orchards, near rivers and walnut orchards. Working farms are a huge hit. It pairs well with vintage vibes. Anything vintage is always popular and it works well with the farm look. We tend to use reclaimed wood, whether it is traditional or formal with a little bit of sparkle. This continues to
be a long running and favorite theme.”
Personalized Favors Within the last four or five years, weddings have become extremely unique and less traditional in regards to party favors or keepsake items. “Many couples are taking out décor that you would expect to see at a wedding, and replacing it with unique objects, invitations, or favors. They are more likely to spend their budget on personal photographs, different styles of invitations, or adding monograms,” said Cole.
