BINDLESTIFF

TALK TO ME

The year 2036. In a broken down post-Federal America, Ex-Marine Frank Dubois journeys from LA to Detroit on a mission to find redemption from his past actions. In present day Hollywood, a British film director hustles to get his movie made in a cut throat and sycophantic business. Somehow, these two worlds collide. Bindlestiff begins with a simple image of a man mending the hole in his shoe with some glue and a cut off piece of rubber. And from there explodes into a broiling satire on race, identity, family, friendship, war, peace, sex, drugs but precious little rock and roll.

After news anchor Ted Grayson’s profanity-laced tirade is caught on camera, his reputation and career are destroyed, leaving him without a script for the first time in years. At the time of his meltdown, Ted is estranged from his wife, Claire, and his adult daughter, Franny, a writer for a popular website. Franny views her father’s disgrace with curiosity and perhaps a bit of smug satisfaction, but when her boss suggests that she confront Ted in an interview, she has to decide whether to use his loss as her career gain. And for Ted, this may be a chance to try to find his way back before it’s too late.

SOUTHERN NIGHTS

Night People, Arise and Walk, Baby Cat Face Gifford, Barry

Barry Gifford’s three Southern Gothic novels, Night People, Arise and Walk, and Baby Cat-Face, may be among the weirdest and best of Gifford’s novels for their sheer velocity - the copious, raw violence; the invented religions and gods that make people do things; and how the horrors somehow cohabit affably - with the genuine pathos and loveliness of the unforgettable characters that live in these books and the things they say so easily that we’ve never heard anyone say before.

MARTIAN MONSTER AND OTHER STORIES, THE Kamen, Jack & Feldstein, Al

When Jack Kamen’s wholesome approach to comics storytelling conspired with Al Feldstein’s delightfully deceptive scripts, the result was futuristic fantasies and high-tech romances that veer suddenly out of control. Kamen delights in bringing Feldstein’s wicked imagination to graphic life in these mostly-pulpy stories, but it’s not all sex and self-deception. There’s surprisingly sharp social and political commentary, as well, with stories that foreshadow the threat of climate change as well as contemporary philosophical debates about the perils and morality of artificial intelligence. KEY SELLING POINTS • The latest in Fantagraphics’ New York Times bestselling series collecting classic EC comics. • Not only are these editions insanely beautiful, they are a valuable historical resource for comics fans. • Blends pulpy sci-fi with sharp social and political commentary, such as views on AI and climate change. • Jack Kamen and Al Feldstein are two of the most iconic comic book creators of their era, known for EC and Mad. • Other books in the EC reissue series are also available from Turnaround, ideal for collectors and general comics fans. “A fascinating, very funny look at something common to us all.”

Daily Telegraph

“Entertaining, amusing, educational and revealing… Sitting on the toilet will never be the same.”

ArtsHub

“A perfect book.” Edmund White

“Equal parts a character study and a treatise on the creative mind, the novel boldly provokes questions about the relationship between an artist’s life and his art, specifically the quality of art that is born out of immense suffering... Haunting and entralling.” —Foreword Reviews

"Splendid... limpid and passionate... fluid and musical... You can read this beautiful book by Ersi Sotiropoulos as an account of three key days in the life of Constantine Cavafy. You can read it as a passionate introduction to his work... but you can also see it on a more metaphorical level. That of a reflection about art. How is it born? Where does it come from?" —Le Monde
