Nursing as a profession: expertise for the health and welfare of patients The main goals of the nursing profession are to promote and maintain health, prevent disease and help patients of different ages cope with illness. Nurses work independently and responsibly in diverse health and social care organisations, and their work is based on nursing science. Providing guidance, support, care and rehabilitation to patients of different ages with various illnesses in cooperation with close relatives and other professionals is the heart of every nurse’s daily work.
Nurses must have excellent interaction and customer service skills, flexibility, empathy, and the ability to work in different teams. Nurses are able to make independent decisions and take responsibility for them. The work also requires good coordination skills and the ability to work under stress. �As a nurse, I can support families and put a smile on the faces of elderly people.�
Studies Students acquire a multidisciplinary theoretical foundation and the ability to apply research in nursing practice. They will also be able to assess and develop their own work and professionalism and the actions of their work community. The Degree Programme in Nursing consists of: • basic studies • professional studies • Bachelor’s thesis • optional studies • practical training
The programme is full-time and it includes: • theoretical teaching • Web-based studies • independent and group studies • simulation • practical placements Students are encouraged to carry out some of their studies abroad. One third of the programme involves practical training, which is carried out in various social welfare and health care environments, such as health centres, hospitals, nursing homes and social welfare facilities.

Find your career! Our degree is equivalent to other corresponding European and international nursing degrees. After graduating you will be a qualified registered nurse and ready to find your own professional path within several specialised areas, such as mental health nursing, paediatrics, geriatrics or medical and surgical nursing. You may also work in expert and consultation positions or for volunteer organisations. Job prospects and opportunities for further study are good all over the world.
