Partner for working life
We support the working life in Southwest Finland together with other educational institutions in the region. We promote competitiveness in the Health Campus Turku, TechCampus Turku and Culture Campus Turku. These network campuses include all the higher education institutions in our region and the Business Turku.
For us, partnership is a way of doing things, and it adds great value to learning, research and development. Our partners in Finland and around the world know us for our effective expertise.
Green economy
We support the green transition of Southwest Finland. Solutions for promoting sustainable productivity already exist and, together with our partners, we will find them. Our work yields a bigger handprint and a smaller carbon footprint.
As the culmination of our long-term RDI work, the first pilot plants for textile recycling in the Nordic countries were established in Paimio.
eBussed:
Electric bus systems across Europe
The City of Turku aims to halve emissions related to travel by 2029. eBussed, a joint project of the city, Turku University of Applied Sciences and international partners actively develops the preconditions for cycling
and walking as well as the culture of sustainable mobility. The aim is to make public transport fully carbon neutral both by electrifying public transport and by supplementing the use of bio-based fuels.
We are building a more sustainable energy system. Many things need to be redesigned, and the larger the number of people making the change, the more effective the end result is.
Heidi Heikkilä, Project coordinatorJunior UAS
Since 2020, we have invited all fifth-graders in Turku to visit us. Student-led workshops present different fields of study in a creative and inspiring way. Junior UAS, implemented in cooperation with STEAM Turku, has gained great popularity: the feedback given by our target audience has been a full ten out of ten, year after year.
A good life
We work towards the best possible life in the changing world. We support our partners in developing humane solutions and service structures. We create opportunities for smoothly-running everyday life filled with new experiences. Our contribution can be seen everywhere, from safe homes and well-being to meaningful art and culture.
Our Baltic Sea
We yield influence in the Baltic Sea region with all our competence. We cooperate with the region’s businesses, higher education institutions and cities. We take good care of the Baltic Sea to keep it healthy and diverse for the generations to come. We invest in test environments that can be used by research institutes and companies alike.
Solutions for stormwater management and flooding
Southwest Finland is a densely populated region, and finding solutions will require many different perspectives. Research should therefore be carried out on a long-term basis and with the broadest possible cooperation.
Emil Nyman, Senior AdvisorClimate change is increasing the risk of flooding in urban areas, where water absorption areas have been reduced as a result of construction. As rainfall increases, the nutrient load entering water bodies also increases. The ISMO project, a joint project between Turku UAS and the City of Turku, seeks to find stormwater solutions for varying conditions and promote the adoption of natural stormwater management.
At home in the hybrid world
For us, change is an opportunity for a better (working) life. We study and develop products and services, so that people and companies can operate in the hybrid world with ease. The physical and virtual world seamlessly overlap with each other in people’s everyday lives, both at work and in spare time.
Additive manufacturing in the field of dentistry
Dental technician training already has years of experience in the use of 3D printing for dental prostheses manufacture. Turku UAS is testing and developing the possibilities of 3D printing in oral health care indications in cooperation with companies.
Practical research at Turku UAS has brought important new solutions to the industry, responding to the growing demand for product development by companies.
We believe it is important that our future graduates adopt new methods in their working lives. This will make denture manufacturing as a whole more sustainable.
