2018 ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

The Annual Cost of Ongoing Operations The Annual Campaign is the mainstay of Teton Valley Health Foundation’s fundraising efforts. Donations given to the Annual Campaign give us the flexibility to cover the costs of whatever is most needed by the hospital and clinics for general repairs, updating medical equipment, upgrading software and renovating medical spaces. Most contributions to our Annual Campaign come through event participation, donations through the Tin Cup Challenge or gifts from major donors.

MUDZILLA FUN RUN The Mudzilla Fun Run is Teton Valley Health Foundation’s newest event to raise funds for the Annual Campaign. This “friend-raisier” is a 5K obstacle course and mud run designed to bring the community together for a good time. Fun for any age, Mudzilla features a 40-foot mudslide, 15foot climbling frames, hurdles and a whole lotta dirt! In 2018, Mudzilla Fun Run had a great turn-out with a big increase in attendance over the prior year. We had food vendors and children’s games onsite in addition to two fighting dinosaurs! Monies raised went towards the purchase of patient tables for the new Victor clinic.

DONATING THROUGH THE TIN CUP CHALLENGE The Tin Cup Challenge is a major source of funding for Teton Valley Health Foundation’s Annual Campaign. Donations given through the Tin Cup Challenge to Teton Valley Health Foundation are then matched up to a certain percentage by the Community Foundation of Teton Valley, boosting the amount you contribute to local healthcare each year. In 2018, the Tin Cup Challenge donations (which includes $12,500 in matching funds from Community Foundation of Teton Valley) helped the Foundation provide almost $55,000 to the Hospital for an ultrasound machine.

TVHF’S GALA UNDER THE STARS

Wine & Art Donor Appreciation and Auction Event

This year marked the fifth anniversary of Teton Valley Health Foundation’s Wine & Art Event. Originally inspired by an evening of wine and art with Scott Christensen, Ray and Sheelagh Howard were the creators and first hosts of the event. Over the years. Wine & Art has grown to become TVHF’s largest fundraiser to honor our major donors and raise money through a high-end auction for big ticket medical needs. On a gorgeous evening in late August, Dr. Neal and Cherie Small hosted this year’s gala at their home. Our guest of honor was Scott Christensen in honor of his generous support of the event each year. In 2018, Wine & Art raised almost $80,000 and Teton Valley Health Foundation was able to purchase an echocardiogram for the hospital.

Artist and Auctioneer Extraordinaire Special thanks to Borbay for running a great auction Borbay is a world-renowned artist who began his career in New York City. Since moving to Idaho, he has become an impactful artistic presence in Teton Valley. In addition to actively supporting charity through art, he also contributes to community beautification through projects like the mural in the City of Victor Park. Borbay donated his dynamic personality and creativity as the auctioneer of this year’s Wine & Art Event.

DONOR INVOLVEMENT

HOME, HEALTH AND HOSPITAL Dr. Neal and Cherie Small host Wine & Art Dr. Neal Small and his wife Cherie love the summer months in Teton Valley. While their primary residence is in Dallas, TX, summers reach triple digits frequently and the Small family has sought refuge in Victor, Idaho every May through August for over two decades. One summer during his stay in the Valley, Neal injured his knee. Famiiar with Dr. Mo Brown’s reputation as a skilled orthopedic surgeon, he sought treatment at Teton Valley Hospital. “I am an arhtroscopic sugeon as well,” Neal says, “and I had watched Dr. Brown perform arthroscopic surgery the summer before I injured my knee. When I injured it, I knew how proficient Mo was and so I went to him for my surgery. The quality of care is excellent.” Not only did Neal’s surgery result in a friendship with Dr. Brown, he and Cherie became supporters of Teton Valley Health Foundation. In the summer of 2018, they

hosted TVHF’s Wine & Art Event at their home, offering a beautiful venue for the Foundation’s largest and most lucrative fundraiser. “Cherie and I enjoyed having everyone at our house,”Neal smiles, “We were gratified to host an event which raised close to $80,000 for the healthcare here. We thought the event was very successful.” As Neal and Cherie have become more involved in their support of local healthcare, the couple looks forward to investing in the growth of Teton Valley’s Hospital. Both Cherie and Neal see a new hospital in Teton Valley Health’s future. The Smalls view healthcare in Teton Valley as one of the community’s definite bright spots. Neal says, “I think that with the population growing and aging as it is in Teton Valley, Idaho and with the interest and enthusiam of individuals with whom I have spoken within the Valley, I believe we can accomplish building a new Hospital.” Neal and Cherie are excited to a be a part of that project.

LET’S GIVE A HAND FOR THE NEW C-ARM John and Jeanine Cushman donated $100,000 to Teton Valley Health Foundation towards the purchase of a new C-Arm. Providing high resolution images in real time for better treatment results in surgery and patient recovery, the C-Arm was installed in October 2018. We thank the Cushman Family Foundation for their generosity. A plaque acknowledging the donation of this state-of-the-art equipment will be installed in the Hospital this December.

It is an amazing piece of technology. I’m doing a hip fracture in the morning and for the first time I’ll use the software distance measuring capabilities. The flat panel takes up 25% of the space ... which is huge! Thanks John and Jeanie!

--Dr. Mo Brown, Orthopedic Surgeon

ACTION EXCAVATION puts the MUD in MUDZILLA

TETON SPRINGS GOLF COURSE makes TEE IT UP FOR TETONS possible

This year’s Mudzilla Fun Run would not have been half as much fun ... or as muddy ... without Action Excavation. Jamie and Brandon Lerwill, owners of the excacvation company, donated a full truckload of soil to fill Mudzilla’s mud pits the day before the race. Commenting on Mudzilla, Jamie says “These events play a big part in the community’s success. We like to get involved because our kids grew up here. They were involved in many causes and we know how important local contributions were. We feel we need to give back.” Action Excavation is a locally-owned company. Brandon has lived here all of his life and Jamie moved here 25 years ago. Both agree, “We love being a part of this community and giving to charities for community events is a great experience. We are happy to do it.”

Every year, Teton Springs Golf Course closes all 18-holes of their premiere golf course to donate a day of play for Teton Valley Health Foundation’s Tee It Up for the Tetons golf tournament. Staff time, golf pro oversight of the tournament rules and the course’s entire fleet of golf carts are included as a part of the donation of venue. In addition, Tony and Carrie Snoey, course managers, provide a Garia golf car as the Hole-In-One prize, absorbing insurance costs and other fees associated with that potential gift. Tee It Up for the Tetons is the Foundation’s main fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and prevention in the Valley. Teton Springs’ generosity means that the almost $20,000 in waived course fees goes directly to the patients in the Valley who benefit from free basic mammograms and the technology purchased through Teton Valley Health Foundation’s Breast Cancer Program annually.

RAD CURBSIDE supports GOOD, CLEAN FUN in Teton Valley

MD NURSERY & LANDSCAPING is a top-tier BUSINESS SPONSOR every year

RAD Curbside is one of Teton Valley’s best event sponsors. True to the company’s claim that it is a steward of service, community and environment, owner Dave Hudacsko and the RAD crew are always willing to donate full trash service to Teton Valley Health Foundation’s Mudzilla Fun Run. Before the run begins, RAD drops off multiple trash roll carts and recycling bins to accommodate event needs and when the race is over, staff returns to collect it all. In addition to their generous and convenient help. RAD provides 32-foot bins to be used as obstacles on the race course. Thanks to RAD, runners can get dirty while the course stays clean and trash-free.

2019 FUNDRAISING FOCUS

TELEMEDICINE IN TETON VALLEY

Bringing top-tier medicial specialists to our rural community

TELEMEDICINE SPECIALTIES

WHAT IS TELEMEDICINE?

Through state-of-the-art audio/visual robot technology, providers at Teton Valley Health are able to connect with exceptionally skilled specialists from Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Intermountain Medical Center and University of Utah for emergency room and outpatient consults.

WHY DOES TVH RELY ON TELEMEDICINE FOR SOME SPECIALTIES?

Telemedicine is the best option for a small rural hospital to access experts in certain areas of specialized medicine. This expert care is something Teton Valley Health would not be able to offer due to lack of patient case-load in Teton Valley. Telemedicine brings specialists to Teton Valley exactly when patients need them.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF TELEMEDICINE?

Telemedicine provides 24/7 access to specialist consult as the need arises, allows for quick and precise case evaluation using the best high-resolution technology, lets the patient speak directly with a medical specialist prior to transport or treatment, and provides TVH staff with the best course of treatment based upon the opinion of a leading specialist in the field.

HOW MUCH DOES TELEMEDICINE COST?

Teton Valley Health provides telemedicine to all patients free of charge. Annually, the program costs the Hospital approximately $200,000. None of that expense is passed to you.

Teton Valley Health Foundation must raise $200,000 each year to fund and expand Telemedicine. We rely on your dontations.

Telemedicine reaches far afield to bring top specialists to the patient rather than making the patient travel to the specialist. The fact that we are able to provide this for our patients with no expectation of reimbursement is our gift to them. -Angela Booker, Chief Nurse Officer

TELESTROKE: Provides patients with access to subspecialist stroke physicians whose only focus is stroke diagnosis and treatment. Using a high-resolution video and audio system, specialists interact with the patient to assess case and develop a treatment plan. TELEBURN: Using a high-resolution camera, burn specialists can view burn severity to determine if a patient needs an immediate skin graft. TELEONCOLOGY: Instead of having to drive to cancer centers miles away, patients may may visit with oncology specialists via telemedicine here in Driggs. TELERESPIRATORY: TVH has a robot with a specialized stethoscope which allows a respiratory therapist to listen to lung sounds and provide guidance about which treatment to pursue. TELEPAIN: Dr. Porot, who has limited office hours at Teton Valley Health, may consult via telemedicine on pain management treatment. TELEMENTAL CRISIS: Experts are able to talk in real time to patients in mental crisis to determine therapy and treatment.

TETON VALLEY HEALTH NEWS

2019 TETON VALLEY HEALTH NEWS

QUALITY AND TETON VALLEY CLINICS The Driggs and Victor Clinics have been designated as Patient Centered Medical Homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. This acknowledgement is largely due to: • Consistently offering 24/7 patient access to a provider via the patient portal and ability to telephone the hospitalist for urgent issues after hours. • Access to Chronic Care Management for patients with poorly controllled conditions or particularly complex cases. • Team-based care which involves a collabortaive effort in quality improvement activities to strengthen efficient and effective provider-patient relationships.

SELF-PAY COMES TO TETON VALLEY HEALTH STARTING DECEMBER 12, 2018 In order to better serve our patients and the community, Teton Valley Health is bringing it’s new self-pay program in-house. No longer will patients receive bills from a service in Laramie, WY. What this means is that any patient who has concerns or questions regarding their medical bills may discuss payment options and details with a representative on staff at Teton Valley Hospital. Where patients require a payment plan, they may receive guidance on how to apply for county assistance, the hospital’s internal community assistance program, the clinic sliding fees scale and can receive instant approval for Care Credit Card. For individuals who have large, unexpected medical bills, Teton Valley Health offers loans that are specifically queried for medical expenses. Where it may not be financially feasible to pay the entirety of a large surgical bill, the hospital now offers several alternatives to get payments to a manageable monthly amount and extended past the 36 interest-free months provided by Teton Valley Health.
