STEMI II
STroke III
Trauma IV
We’re ready to diagnose and treat heart attacks.
We have the equipment and expertise to diagnose strokes.
We can provide advanced trauma life support.
Level II STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) indicates that the hospital’s cardiac team is appropriately trained and certified in recognizing and treating acute coronary syndromes.
TVH offers a stroke team 24/7 trained in stroke diagnosis and treatment, and has a neurologist or physician available to assist in diagnosis (in-person and via University of Utah Health Care Telestroke services).
Teton Valley Hospital has bolstered its standardized system of care approach for time sensitive emergencies including trauma, stroke and heart attack.
STEMI patients can receive the initial medication, treatment and stabilization for a heart attack on site at TVH. Swift intervention reduces the destruction of heart muscle. After initial treatment and stabilization, patients are then transferred to EIRMC to determine the extent of cardiac damage, coronary artery involvement and possible further intervention that requires a cardiac surgeon.
TVH also has the correct diagnostic equipment, and utilizes protocols and procedures to support treatment of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. For stroke patients, TVHC can provide the initial diagnosis within a very rapid time frame through a CT (computerized tomography) scan with subsequent ability to provide the clot-busting medication for ischemic strokes. The patient would then need to be transferred to EIRMC or UUHC for Neurology ICU and any further interventions.
Hospital staff are required to collect program-specified data for analysis and reporting to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and TSE Council. In addition, TVH RNs working in the ER are certified in the Trauma Nurse Core Course and the Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course, which exceeds the requirements for the Trauma IV designation. Our medical providers are approved for Advanced Trauma Life Support.
Teton Valley Hospital now offers Oncology
Focus on Patients
Teton Valley Health Care has partnered with Utah-based Intermountain Healthcare to provide select oncology care at Teton Valley Hospital. Patients and their families will benefit from new and expanded essential services including chemoinfusion therapies, wound care, and personalized treatment programs.
Dr. Derrick Haslem, Director of Medical Oncology for Intermountain Healthcare, oversees the new Oncology TeleHealth program at Teton Valley Hospital.
“Intermountain Healthcare provides more cancer screening and treatment services than all other health systems in Utah combined. Our patients will have real-time visits, care planning, and follow-up exams with some of the best oncologists in the nation, all without having to travel outside the valley,” says Keith Gnagey, CEO of Teton Valley Health Care.
Dr. Derrick Haslem serves as Director of Medical Oncology for Intermountain Healthcare and oversees the Oncology TeleHealth program. He’s a founder and coowner of Intermountain Precision Genomics, a testing and diagnostic center that is capable of examining larger portions of DNA to detect gene mutation types which may respond better to unique cancer treatment approaches. Intermountain is the only healthcare system in the nation with the capability to test and treat for all possible genetic mutation types. “Our Oncology TeleHealth program with Teton Valley Hospital will help patients and their families in many ways. For patients, there will be a significant reduction in travel time and expenses, on top of building strong relationships between our two clinical teams,” says Dr. Haslem.
“Everyone was very friendly and made sure I understood what was to be done and when it would happen. I was seen immediately, and all tests were completed in a very reasonable timeframe. Thanks!”

Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Program Year after year, Idaho is the state that ranks last or next to last in the country for number of patients receiving recommended mammogram screening. In an effort to increase breast cancer awareness and prevention, Teton Valley Hospital Foundation provides funding for free basic mammograms to anyone who needs one. Applications for a free mammogram are available at Hospital Admissions or can be accessed on the website at www.TVHFoundation.org
The New Donor Wall Local woodworker David Trapp is designing a Donor Wall to be featured in the hospital entry. Using gorgeous wood and copper, David will devise a storytelling Donor Wall featuring various-sized engraved wood plaques honoring TVHF’s major donors. Installation is scheduled for mid- to late 2018. To learn more about becoming a major donor, please contact Jenny Wade at jwade@tvhcare.org or via phone at 208.354.6310.
From new technology and techniques to patient care practices, our ability to advance directly impacts the quality of care we can and need to provide our Teton Valley community. Improvements to the clinics and hospital are not only necessary, they are required. Donor contributions critically impact the pace with which we can renovate and innovate for our local health system.
A message from Teton Valley Hospital Foundation Ray Howard, Board of Directors President Maintaining our small community hospital requires support from all of us. It’s alarming to see rural areas struggle to provide needed hospital services for their communities. Here in Teton Valley, we know that its easier to receive medical care with help from a circle of loved ones nearby. Every donation matters to our Hospital and clinics. TVHF respects the donors who contribute to healthcare in Teton Valley each year. We thank you. Importantly, we look forward to building our medical services with you and for you.
Jenny Wade, Executive Director Healthcare in Teton Valley is growing. In the past 18-months, our rural hospital was awarded Trauma IV status and received both STEMI II and STROKE III designations, signifying the competency of our facility to treat heart attack and stroke victims in their most critical time. We are proud of our progress. In order to maintain our momentum, we hope to work with you to raise money for major medical initiatives and to increase your satisfaction with Teton Valley Hospital Foundation.
“I am so thankful for our local hospital. I am appreciative of the specialists who come here so long travel is not necessary.” www.tvhcare.org
