Love conquers all

LOVING LOCAL couple Alan and Mary Birch celebrated their diamond jubilee 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, February 23.

The couple have shared some of their secrets to lasting love and sticking together in tough times.

The couple have been long-time residents of the Tweed and have been active members of our community for many years.

Alan was a well-respected Tweed builder, while Mary was an active volunteer.

The couple said they were “delighted” when they received a letter of congratulations from King Charles III.

They met at a judo group in Auburn and a friend of Mary’s said he was a “good sort”.

“Alan had been around England as he’d hitchhiked around the UK,” Mary said.

“We’ve been through thick and thin together with three sons.

“We bought 100 acres at the end of Nobbys Creek in the 1970s.”
