Murwillumbah Cricket Club President Adam Housen said clubs had chosen to play both days of the two-day LJ Hooker League this weekend because The Legends of the Game 20/20 cricket picnic day is on Saturday, 11 March from 3pm to 6pm at Oakes Oval, Lismore
“It’s for the flood appeal and it’s going to be huge,”Adam said.
“They want as many cricketers to attend as possible. It’s a free event, a dry event with no alcohol but it will be a great afternoon.
“Adam Gilchrist returns home to Lismore with some of his mates including Ricky Ponting to mark the 2022 flood anniversary with local cricketers also joining in.”
Players will include Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Chris Lynn, Jason Gillespie, Michael Kasprowicz, Andy Bichel, Dan Christian, Steve O’Keefe, Stuart MacGill, Stuart Clark and Jimmy Maher, with more to come.
“We played Goonellabah last weekend and they are second in the comp and they outrighted us,” Adam said.
“They bowled us out twice in the second day for not many so they are going really well and they are a good bunch of blokes as well.
The final round of the LJ Hooker League is on this weekend with Murwillumbah playing Tweed Banora Colts at home.
“They need to beat us to get into the finals,”
Adam said. “Last weekend was the centenary of Far North Coast Cricket Council and LJ Hooker played Northern Rock T20s and beat them so that was pretty special.”
Last round Pottsville beat Tintenbar East Ballina taking 10/83 and scoring 79 runs with the loss of four wickets.
This weekend Pottsville, in third spot, will play Lennox Head at Seabreeze.
Tweed Banora Colts’ Adam Rogers said they beat Casino in their last game, with Casino scoring 61 and 3/57. Tweed declared at 8/159 with Tom Byrnes taking 7/33 and 2/27 and Lewis Koppel 3/19.
Pottsville, in third spot, will play Lennox Head at Seabreeze. Adam Rogers scored 68 off 61 while Keats Chipps scored 29 off 33 balls. Adam said Tweed need to beat Murbillumbah to make finals and hope results go their way “Goonellebah guaranteed minor premiership and Pottsville is in a good spot to make the finals.”
