Peter Grant retires

By Jonathon Howard

AFTER A career spanning more than 45 years, Peter Grant of Grant & Brady Accountants has announced his retirement from public practice.

Peter has been a mainstay in the Tweed Valley helping countless clients achieve their financial goals since the late 1970s.

His business partner Stuart Brady said it was sad to see him go.

“While it’s sad to see Peter go, we understand his decision and wish him all the best with his retirement,” Stuart said.

“Peter has always shown a strong commitment and professionalism towards his staff and his clients, and has maintained a proud legacy here.

“Like the previous principals of this business, he wants to ensure the reputation for professionalism and quality of service continues.”

Stuart will continue to operate the firm under the name of ‘Grant & Brady’ in partnership with the principals of the Lever Group and Enright Holmes.

“They bring with them a wealth of experience and knowledge across a range of industries,” Stuart said.

“The Lever Group consists of a number of rural accounting firms in Queensland and Enright Holmes is a well-established firm operating out of Ballina.

“As regional firms they are very similar to Grant & Brady in a lot of ways, and this is one of the main reasons we chose to partner with them.”

Stuart said at the forefront of the decision is the Grant & Brady commitment to staff and clients.

“Our goal is for them to be better off,” Stuart said.

“If we can achieve that, everything else will look after itself.

“We truly believe this will be a refreshing and positive change and we are very excited for what the future holds.”

“Peter would like to thank his clients for their support over many years and wishes them and the community all the best.”

ROUND 1 is upon us. The weekend was free for teams to finalise their pre-season preparations and we are ready to go.

I thought I’d give my opinion on the upcoming season. I’ve grouped teams into sections of where I feel they might run, no expert, just an opinion.

17/16/15/14

Dolphins will struggle. A whole new team takes time to gel and find cohesion in their performance. I’m looking forward to seeing how Bennett manages young gun Katoa. He is a star and they have Bennett, this may save them.

Dragons are in licorice all sorts already. A poor pre season and dramas off field will have coach Griffin in the gun. They usually start strong and this is essential for them, however, based on pre season form I can’t see this happening.

I don’t see the Tigers improving a whole amount. Korisau and Klemmer will help but across the board consistency will be an issue. I hope Douehi has an injury free season as he is a quality player.

Newcastle I have some real concerns over. Hastings is a quality addition and he needs Ponga to go with him. Without those two firing it will be a long season for the Knights.

13/12/11

The Warriors are the NRL’s most erratic team. They will win games but they lack the consistency that’s required to finish at the top end of the NRL.

Raiders I think have hit the end of the line and are going to drop right off. An injury to Savage straight up doesn’t help.

They still have Wighton, Papalii and Tapine who might carry them but I’m not seeing it.

Bulldogs are becoming everyone’s second team.

They have recruited well and the new coach is a gun. They have to go better - the cattle they have this year ensures it.

10/9/8/7

Sharks could make me out to be a clown. They have a quality side but I just feel they overachieved last year and might struggle. Nicho

Hynes is a star and is everyone’s favourite player as he is one hell of a human being.

Manly showed pre season they have enough artillery to finish top 8 and be a threat.

Tommy T is a massive factor for them, probably more than any other side with their star player. Seibold is a focused driven human and coach and they will perform well.

Titans - C’mon you blokes! We need a result. Holbrook needs Tino to replicate his form for 2022, Fifita to fire and new additions Foran and Verrills to make a difference.

Broncos have plenty of strike power and will be keen to prevent the wheels falling off again.

6/5/4

Eels are going to be there or thereabouts but I’m still not convinced they can win a comp. Storm possess stars in Munster and Hughes and the rest fill in and do their job. Papenhuyzen is needed on the park for the to be any chance. They just don’t miss September.

Souths have Latrell. End of story. He is a genuine star and makes all the difference for them. 3/2/1

Cowboys will only be better this year. Their squad is settled and they are 12 months into Payten’s tenure with the clipboard.

Roosters , although poor in the pre season, possess a roster that’s the envy of most clubs. Uncle Nick and his cheque book help the situation as well.

Penrith are consistently good. Do they win the comp again? I’m not sure, but they will be a top end finisher for sure.

The local rep games head to Ballina on the weekend with the Laurie Daley and Andrew Johns (U/16’s and U/18’s) sides to play before the Open men and the ladies U/17’s Lisa Fiaola trials to be held afterwards. The footy is here.
