“It’s the 33rd year of Clean Up Australia Day so we would love people to come along on Sunday to help clean up,” Trev, who runs the watersports hire business at Jack Evans, told The Weekly.

“It starts at 10am and finishes at 12 noon.

“We are having refreshments and a barbecue for all participants after.

“It’s at the green shed in front of Twin Towns where the big Australian flag is at Jack Evans Boat Harbour Watersports Tweed office.

“It’s not just about the clean-up, it’s about education about the environment. It’s seeing how much rubbish is dumped along our foreshores, riverbanks, in the ocean, or comes out of our stormwater drains

“We have a lot of turtles and beautiful marine life in our region that can die from the rubbish they swallow. We have two turtles that live in Jack Evans so we are trying to keep our waterways as beautiful as they are.”

Trev has sunscreen and some bags but asks participants to bring their own gloves and bags if possible.

“We welcome families, children, sporting, business, social and any other groups, or anyone with boats or diving equipment that want to come along and enjoy a beautiful day on our amazing Tweed.

Just turn up or call Trev on 0404 606 508 for more information. Find your local event at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/join-a-clean-up
