Modern Design Welcome to the Diss Auction Rooms and the Modern Design Sale. Studio Pottery dominates the sale for the first auction of 2018 with the majority coming from the private collection of the Late Kathleen ‘Marigold’ Austin. A potter herself she started at the Poole Factory of Carter Stabler Adams in the 1950’s before embarking in a teaching career at various art colleges in the South of England. She set up a pottery in partnership with Ann Stannard at Cheverton but continued to teach throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s until setting up on her own at the Calendula Pottery in Hertfordshire and exhibited her work across the country. Her interest in pottery included buying the work of other potters, especially in the Leach Tradition and she acquired some gems either direct from the potters or at various exhibitions including those at The Arts Council and the first Crafts Centre in London. Potter’s include Bernard, Janet and David Leach, Hamada, Marshall, Cardew, Quick and Frith amongst others so I hope you enjoy them while they are here. I will be happy to take enquiries for items in the sale or if you are looking to sell in our Next sale in July please contact me.
