Catalogue Description The Auctioneers undertake that reasonable care has been taken to produce catalogue descriptions that are accurate and reliable but these are necessarily matters of opinion only and not to be taken as statement of fact. Although in some instances damage or restoration is noted, generally imperfections are not stated and prospective buyers must satisfy themselves on the condition and accuracy of description of each lot prior to bidding and to act upon their own judgment. In particular: Pictures, bronzes etc: Only descriptions commencing with the forename(s) and surname of the artist are in our opinion the work of that particular artist. Any other forms of description are given without warranty as to the origin, authenticity or signature of the artist noted. Export:Prospective purchasers are advised that due care and attention has identified lots containing materials from endangered species, including but not limited to coral, ivory, rosewood and tortoiseshell. Certain countries may prohibit the import of these lots and accordingly, prospective purchasers should familiarize themselves with relevant customs regulations prior to bidding. 9. Collector’s Electrical Items Electrical items noted as “collector’s electrical items” within the catalogue are sold on the strict understanding that though originally intended to be operated by mains electricity are sold untested, without warranty or any guarantee as to serviceability or working order. These items might not comply with current statutory requirements and are offered for sale solely for display purposes or historical interest. The items are not suitable for connection to mains electricity unless they are checked and warranted so by a qualified electrician 10. Artist’ Resale Rights (ARR) In essence, this charge will be made to the purchaser of any work of art that has been produced by a living artist, or an artist registered with Design and Artists Copyright Society, on lots with the hammer price more than the UK sterling equivalent of €1000. The Saturday Select Sale Welcome to our inaugural Saturday Select Sale, a brand new auction in our full and extensive calendar. Select because our specialist valuers and cataloguers have chosen the entries; select because overall quality will be higher than our regular larger sales. It does not automatically follow that lots will be more expensive nor therefore that there is prohibitive exclusivity in the mix, but in many cases, higher expectation will be a natural byproduct of the selection process. The Saturday Select Sale is intended as an eclectic and exciting showcase encompassing fine examples from many of our special categories, both traditional antiques and homestyle feature pieces, and
consequently each sale will be “free-form”.They will be made available to our audience of auction enthusiasts on chosen weekends, accessible as a live auction experience either in person or via the online auction platform, the-saleroom.com. This month the headliners include Nicole Freres, Minton’s majolica a private collection of 18th Century Lowestoft porcelain, paintings by Thomas Smythe and Edmund Blair Leighton, Oriental artefacts and some very desirable jewellery and silver objects d’art. Then when you have finished reading this catalogue, the volume of Charles Darwin’s “Origin of Species” may beckon. We hope, having enjoyed this selection, you will mark the next Saturday Select Sale on 5 September in your diary.
