Welcome Welcome back for another exciting season of Sherwood Park Steele Junior A Female Hockey. At this time, we would like to thank our many sponsors, volunteers, parents and most importantly the young ladies who represent us so well and make everything possible. The Steele are coming off a strong 2018/19 season which saw our ladies finish first overall in league standings. We had two players take home league awards for the north, top goalie and most points by a player. We have a strong group of veteran players who have built the foundation of Steele hockey, character, passion, commitment, and teamwork. Joining the core is eight young, passionate rookies whose talent, energy and hunger have ignited a new fire, our chase for the title begins. The girls aged 18 to 21 have full schedules with most attending College or University programs while working part time or fulltime jobs. Many still find time to volunteer with local organizations and community hockey programs. The girls in the program come from all over Alberta and even a few from out of province. The Sherwood Park Steele Program is focused on developing young ladies who will become future leaders in our communities. With our graduating juniors as an example, the program will continue to have success. Well done ladies! The coaching staff is excited at the opportunity to coach such a talented group of young ladies who are willing to work so hard to try and achieve our goal of a Provincial title. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of many people and businesses, your support doesn’t go unnoticed, we thank you! We encourage you to come out to our home rink at the Ardrossan Recreation Complex to cheer us on, the speed and skill of the hockey is truly amazing.

in the Community

Qualico Communities supports many events and causes throughout the Edmonton Region, including several minor sports teams in Sherwood Park over the years. One way is through an annual Community Cleanup Program whereby Qualico Communities will provide a local team with an honorarium in exchange for picking up loose construction garbage in one of Qualico’s new communities. Normally, this is in the springtime, however, there was an immediate need in one of the Sherwood Park neighbourhoods in the fall of 2019. The Sherwood Park Steele were more than happy to assist. The work involved picking up all of the construction litter (usually paper and plastic and not the heavy concrete and steel), placing it in heavy duty garbage bags, and then leaving the bags for pickup in a designated area. Qualico covers the cost of garbage bags. In the past, teams have taken an hour or two to complete the task and this team was no exception. This was a great team building and Sherwood Park Steele is proud to have partnered with Qualico Communities for this opportunity to work hard and have fun at the same time.
