one are the days when choosing a stroller for twins meant you were limited to only a few options. There are now several choices for double strollers within each category (i.e. frames, combos, travel, everyday, all terrain, jogging, etc.) that will ensure you get all the features you want and need! Choosing the right stroller for your family can take a lot of research and a few test drives, but it can make a big difference in your daily life. Here are ten tips to help as you start your shopping:

1. First and most importantly, donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t just get the double stroller that another MOM recommended, as you need to ensure it is going to fit your lifestyle with twins. Ask questions. Do you have older children or a dog and need to be able to push the stroller onehanded? Do you live a very active lifestyle and need a stroller that can go all terrain? Are you in an urban or suburban environment? Will you mostly walk out of the house with the stroller or does it need to easily fold and fit in your car, a taxi or on the train? 2. Next, you need to decide if you want a double

stroller that is side-by-side or tandem (in-line). Side-by-side is nice to keep everyone happy, because no one ever has to be in the back and both children share an equal view. However, many side-by-side strollers are difficult to maneuver in stores, restaurants or other crowded places. Look for one that will fit through a standard exterior doorway (32” wide). If you are a city dweller, beware that a tandem stroller can be harder to maneuver over curbs and other uneven surfaces.

nothing worse than having to kneel down on the wet ground to try to dig something out of a diaper bag that is buried under your stroller. If you love everything about a stroller but think the storage basket is too small, find out if they offer additional storage baskets. Beware of using stroller organizing bags that were not made by the stroller manufacturer as they can cause even the heaviest double stroller to tip over.

infant car seats. Going with a double frame is an easy alternative to get started, as they fit most infant car seat brands, are easy to fold, and light to carry. Several brands offer durable everyday strollers that give you this option, but if you are worried about your budget, these can be a pricey way to start.

Many double strollers come standard with accessories such as a cup holder, rain shield, or car seat adaptors. If these don’t come standard on the stroller you are considering, research the cost of each of the accessories you want, as it may be more affordable to go with another brand where they may be included. For example, on some models, the car seat adaptors will cost you as much $50 each.

free, so ensure that whatever stroller you choose, you can fold one-handed. When you do your shopping, ensure that you are able to fold the stroller yourself. Also make sure you are able to easily unfold the stroller and understand if you need to remove the seats first. Make sure that the stroller you choose will lock in the folded position. Trying to lift a double stroller that isn’t locked when folded can spell D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R!

5. This may seem obvious, but be sure to measure your trunk or storage space. There are many vehicles that can’t accommodate the length of a double frame, but most will be able to handle a folded tandem stroller. Also be sure to check the weight of any stroller you are thinking about. The suspension systems that make some strollers roll with ease can also add weight over other models. 6. If you are thinking about investing in a double jogging stroller, ask yourself if you will be a serious runner after your twins arrive. While you can use these strollers every day, many pediatricians recommend waiting at least 6 months before running with babies in tow. Make sure to get a model with a front wheel that can go from fixed to swivel. Off roading? Consider an all terrain stroller that comes standard with larger tires to handle various surfaces and a swivel wheel. 7. Look for a stroller that not only has a sizeable

Small things can also make a big difference. Test out the seats to ensure there is a one-handed recline that folds flat so it is acceptable for the babies from birth. Pull the sun canopies all the way out to test their coverage, and in warmer climates look for ones that offer UV protection.

10. One way to ensure you get the most bang for your buck is to choose a double stroller that can convert back to a single stroller for times you have an outing with one child, or if you plan on having another baby after twins. This becomes even more challenging when the gender is unknown or you have a boy and a girl sharing the same space. Do you need one crib or two? Do you opt for neutral colors, or can you be more gender specific? Are there certain things on which to splurge or will you need to be more budget-conscious on everything? To help you out, we got the scoop from Oilo Studio co-owner and also a mom, Annalisa Thomas who shares some great tips to remember when beginning the process.

Q: How do you begin nursery design for twins? Should parents consider color(s), style, etc., especially given that sometimes itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s not always planning for two girls or two boys? A: Start by picking a color palette the same way you would for one baby. If the twins are not the same gender, then consider a gender-neutral color or two colors that complement each other. Many of our moms pick a neutral color for the boy and a more feminine color for the girl. For example: taupe and pink or stone and spring green. Taupes and greys are easy base colors that will match most feminine colors. Q: How can parents overcome challenges with a lack of space for two cribs, etc. in a twin nursery? A: Trying to fit two cribs and furniture in a standard size bedroom can be very challenging. If you donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have room for a large --- contd. pg. 22

Gliders can also take up space, but if you pick a nice looking one, you can put it anywhere in your house. I personally love having one in my living room. Plus, the living room is a central area where everyone gathers, so it’s nice to not feel like you are being excluded when you have to nurse or rock the babies. Q: What are some key elements that you recommend for every nursery? A: Getting a good glider has been my best purchase yet. When you are a first time mom you don’t realize how much time you will be spending in it. My friends and I were just laughing about how 10 hours of each day are spent just feeding a newborn. It’s no wonder you don’t get anything done! So get a comfy, easy-to-clean glider, like Oilo’s and load yourself with books, magazines, lots of water (I never knew nursing could make you so thirsty!), a snuggly blanket, and a good nursing pillow, because when that newborn arrives, you will quickly realize the glider is your new home! Then before you know it, your newborn is not so tiny anymore, and has become a busy, busy toddler who won’t sit still for more than two seconds, except at night when they are exhausted from their toddler-exploring day. Squeeze in a few more cuddles while rocking your child to sleep.

Q: With parents of multiples often being more budget-conscious, can you recommend certain stores for quality furniture and accessories? A: I usually spend money on the pieces that I know will stay with me for many years and a few “can’t live without” items. For my nursery, I spent more money on a crib, glider, bedding, dresser, and lighting. I picked up accessories at stores like HomeGoods, Target and IKEA. I love mixing more expensive items with lower priced items so that when you are ready for new accessories, you don’t feel guilty about switching them out. Q: Along the same lines, how do you recommend decorating with pieces that won’t be outgrown after the first year or two? A: I like to put my money on items that are going live long past the baby stage. I would recommend a good comfy glider which you will always love using whether you are snuggling with your toddler or using it later in your living room. At Oilo, we also recommend finding crib bedding that will work with toddler beds, too. Obviously, you won’t use a bumper for very long, but we sell play blankets that can be used as a coverlet on toddler beds. They are durable and match all of our crib bedding so you don’t have to buy new bedding or redecorate the whole room. Q: What is the most crucial piece to pulling together any nursery? A: I would definitely say the crib. Babies really don’t need much, but I don’t do well without

sleep so I try and get my babies on a good sleep schedule as soon as possible. Q: How soon do you recommend planning and decorating a nursery? A: Definitely start sooner than later. Most moms suffer from morning sickness or are too tired to do anything the first trimester, but as soon as you get your burst of energy, start planning your nursery. Many first-time moms don’t realize that bigger items like cribs and gliders can take up to 10 weeks to arrive. Also, the longer you wait, the bigger you get and it is harder to move around.
