Dino Excavation Birthday Party Styling: C.C. Monroe Event Design * Photography: Chenier Amor Photography

Are you ready for a ROARING good time? What little boy wouldn’t love a day filled with reptiles, dirt, fossils and dinosaurs! A twist to the classic dinosaur themed party, C.C. Monroe Event Design took this popular theme to the next level by turning a backyard into a fossil excavation site!

Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine *

A Stegosaurus fossil canvas was hand drawn and painted especially for the birthday boy by his uncle.

28 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

The little paleontologists were treated to a dessert station filled with fossil goodies including stegosaurus eggs (donut holes), cupcakes, fossil cookies and an incredible fossil cake.

“My favorite dessert was the rice krispy treats designed to look like a giant T-Rex fossil! (see image below) - April of C.C. Monroe Event Design

A VINTAGE BABY SHOWER Styling & Photography: Natalie Creates * Story by: Zelda Milles

There’s something special about a relaxing afternoon on the back porch with friends. It’s even better when one of them is awaiting the arrival of a new addition to their family.

32 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

The key ingredient in this girlie celebration is the picture perfect use of “free” finds. The soft, mellow color pallet of peach, pink, white and gold was just right for this Vintage Baby Shower. Simple spring flowers in bud vases scattered among the bright pink and yellow Ranunculus and jars of pretty candies add pops of color to the table. It’s the layering of textures like the needle lace tablecloth, the gold polka dot runner and colorful confetti and galvanized metal tray holding Mason jars filled with copper silverware, dessert napkins and plates that add a touch of stateliness without crowding the table.

“I incorporated vintage finds from my home and paired them with potted Ranunculus plants wrapped in simple brown paper to create the perfect little garden party. I wanted the baby shower to also feature photos of Wendy’s family, which I styled as centerpieces, and later served as a take-home treasured keepsake for Wendy.” —Natalie Freeman Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine *

33

“When guests arrived, they were greeted with an array of healthy snack foods along with a table brimming with pretty flowers & lit candles. We sipped on drinks, shared food, chatted & showered Wendy with gifts on the back patio. It was the perfect time to celebrate sweet Wendy & her bundle of joy on the way! - Natalie Freeman

Meet the face behind:

Nectar & Stone

36 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

Nectar & Stone is a visual story board of eating with style founded by Caroline Khoo. From creation, styling to photography, the journey showcases and captures the soft and feminine aesthetic of the brand. Nectar & Stone has been loved and featured on the Martha Stewart and Apartment Therapy websites. Collaborations include the likes of Mimco, Samantha Wills, West Elm and write ups in publications such as The Australian, Renegade Collective and Herald Sun.

I notice that you surround yourself with flowers. Do they help with your creative process? If so, in what way?

-- Yes absolutely. I have always loved flowers - by surrounding my studio and home with them, I feel that I am in the presence of beauty, happiness, life and love. Flowers are so delicate and intricate - they inspire me on so many levels. Coming from the fashion industry, does it still influence your confections? In what ways? -- Most certainly. My connection and interest with fashion is still very much alive and part of what drives and inspires me to develop and create. Colours, shapes, textures, patterns and even the way photographs are taken all play a key part in how I develop my own ideas and make them relate in sweet dessert creations.

In April you re-branded. I read at the time that you felt like you failed. Do you still feel that way? As an outsider looking in, it appears your re-branding was a big success. You have a very loyal following of people who are behind you and support your endeavours. -- I am quite a harsh critic on myself - a perfectionist at heart which is great most of the time as it continually motivates me to be better but at times you just need to relax and not be afraid of failure as well - it’s all part of character building I have learnt. Looking back now, I see happiness and success. I am very proud to have such a nurturing, loyal and loving community who continually reinforce their support.

You once said Donald Trump is someone you’d share cake with because he once said, “ you sleep when you’re dead”. That you have so much to do. Can you give us a hint of something you have been cooking? -- Yes, there is so much to do, so much to share and so much to create. I want the world to see and enjoy as much as I can offer to them.

…… Colours, shapes, textures, patterns and even the way photographs are taken all play a key part in how I develop my own ideas and make them relate in sweet dessert creations.

……

Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine *

37

Your family is very involved in your business. Do you find it has drawn you closer and that they help spark inspiration? -- My mother is certainly the backbone in my life - she always encourages me to be the best version of myself, to push my boundaries and to be happy in my life. My husband is the rock of my life - the constant, the logic, the support that allows me to create and produce without feeling guilty.

You at one time had said you wanted to have a Cakery. Is that still a dream of yours? -- The cakery was such an amazing dream which unfortunately couldn’t come to fruition. But there are no regrets at all, everything happens for a reason. I truly enjoy creating and sharing my work.

Tips from Caroline Khoo to build a sucessful captivating brand

- identify your style - trial and error - don’t ever be afraid to make mistakes - use recipes as a guide - every mixer, fridge, oven is different - so start writing and learning what your kitchen equipment is like - Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer are wonderful women to learn from - buy their books - perfect each dessert or sweet confection - learn everything about eggs - egg whites and egg yolks

Silhouette & Bowtie 1st Birthday Bash

Styling: Just a Little Sparkle * Photography: Megan Long Photography * Story by: Zelda Milles

How do you capture the sweetest baby face in the world? Naturally, use their silhouette and then, add a bow tie or ribbons to create one fabulous first birthday party. This party was nothing short of colorful and fun with stripes, polka dots and a teeny bit of houndstooth in bright blue, aqua and orange.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine *

41

The fun spilled over onto the charming dessert table canopied in bold orange stripes. A silhouette of the birthday honoree hangs front and center above the color coordinated sweets —caramel apples, cinnamon sugar cookies, rice krispies, candy kabobs, red velvet cake pops and french macarons — all donning bow ties and/or a silhouette of this sweet one-year-old.

“The birthday girl loves Chinese food and recently learned about bamboo at school, so having a panda themed birthday party was an easy decision. We kept Chinese (and panda bear) elements throughout the party’s decoration, food, tableware and activities.” - Tali of A Party Studio.

52 * Twinkle Twinkle Little Party Magazine

The party decor color scheme was an infusion of pink, green, black and white. There was live bamboo twisted into hearts and tied with pink ribbons in addition to fresh stalks placed around the room creating an illusion of a forest around the children’s table. And the children’s table — pallets on bricks! This created an authentic Asian dining ambience along with the paper lanterns and the well-placed rice paper folding screens. The tabletops were decorated with a sequin runner and honeycomb balls of different sizes and again, lucky bamboo plants down the center. Tatami mats were placed on the floor and each held a custom cushion and place setting for each little guest with personalized plates and chopsticks.

This party wasn’t just about fun. There were lots of educational tidbits including stories about pandas, their habitats and efforts to protect them. There was panda research, suduko puzzles and coloring, too.

You can either make hot cocoa bags available for your guests or make hot chocolate from scratch. Follow this simple hot cocoa recipe on page 67.

Simple Hot Cocoa INGREDIENTS 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar (depending on how sweet you like it) Pinch of salt 1 cup milk or any combination of milk, half-and-half, or cream 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract Whisk together the cocoa, sugar, salt, and about 2 tablespoons milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until cocoa and sugar are dissolved. Whisk in the rest of the milk and heat it over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until it is hot. Stir in the vanilla and serve. If you like it frothy, blend it in the blender. This recipe multiplies easily. When you get up to a quart of milk, use 1/4 teaspoon salt. Source: Epicurous

6 WAYS TO ADD LAYERS OF DETAIL TO YOUR

THANKSGIVING DINNER with Christine Conroy of TwoChihuahuas Christine Conroy is the founder/owner of TwoChihuahuas. She designs and makes custom banners, cards, party and nursery decor and more. Everything in her shop was inspired by her own life’s events.

BURLAP + CHAMPAGNE Thanksgiving is a time to count our blessings and celebrate all that we’re thankful for. If you’re anything like me, you get excited about inviting family and friends over and decorating your space. This combination of burlap and champagne pulls in the natural tones of the season with just the right amount of sparkle. Pops of white add a crisp, modern touch I can’t ever seem to turn down. 1. BANNER Hang up a banner and you instantly create a focal point and set the tone for your event. Each square of this “Give Thanks” banner is handmade with four layers of paper: champagne glitter, burlap, white and shimmery sand letters.

2. PLACE SETTING This year, opt for a new spin on the standard place card. These mini buntings add a personalized touch to any plate and are sure to leave your guests “oohing” and “ahhing”.

5. WINE CHARMS Every long-stemmed glass begs for a little accessory. Customize these charms with your guests’ initials for a more personal touch.

3. FOOD PICKS + TENTED CARDS Whether you’re serving up a simple cheese plate or a long-standing family recipe, your appetizers and side dishes deserve an introduction, too.

4. DESSERT TOPPER Who says a pie can’t have a topper, too? Choose between a glitzy piece or a more down-to-earth neutral to spruce up your favorite after meal treat.

6. DIY TABLESCAPE IDEA Pull everything together by adding glittery white pumpkins to your table’s centerpiece. You can use white Casperitas or Baby Boos or cover some mini Jack Be Littles with white paint. [Insider tip: use gesso instead of paint to give your pumpkins an unfinished, matte look.] Add a little glue, sprinkle on some champagne glitter and voilá…you’ve completed this Thanksgiving look!
