However for most people starting on their family history journey, it is not that easy. A free seminar offered during Family History Month designed to introduce the family researcher to the many records available within the databases of Ancestry, Findmypast and FamilySearch and how to navigate through these websites to find your ancestors.
Old newspapers were great sources of information about people and events within towns and countries in the past. Books to read before they become movies... The House With a Clock in Its Walls: Based on the novel by John Bellairs, this movie features an orphan who learns, while staying with his uncle, that magic is real — and he can do it. First Man: La La Land director Damien Chazelle helms this adaptation of a Neil Armstrong biography by James R. Hansen, exploring the journey that led to Armstrong becoming the first man to walk on the moon. The Girl in the Spider’s Web: Claire Foy gets another star turn as the hacker Lisbeth Salander, taking over the role from Rooney Mara just as author David Lagercrantz took over the writing duties to continue Stieg Larsson’s popular series after the author’s death. Mary, Queen of Scots: Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie face off as Mary Stuart and Queen Elizabeth I, respectively, in this royal drama that draws inspiration from the biography My Heart Is My Own: The Life of Mary Queen of Scots, by John Guy. The Black Hand: Leonardo DiCaprio is set to star in an adaptation of Stephan Talty’s book about the origin story of the American mafia, including the ways it affected the public officials pulled into its orbit and the Italian-American detective who sacrificed everything to try to stop it.

kids Reading is important for kids under five Did you know that up to 90% of a child’s brain development happens in the first five years? Research is now telling us that when babies and children get the stimulation they need – it can have a lasting effect on their future. Sharing stories, rhymes, singing, talking and playing with your child from birth builds a foundation for your child’s future development that can last a lifetime. Rockhampton Regional Libraries provide a wide range of programs specifically designed for under fives as part of the First 5 Forever initiative. For a full range of activities for babies to five years old collect a copy of the latest First 5 Forever Program at your local library or LIKE 'Lively Kid' on Facebook for all upcoming events.
