Qué difícil es escribir un libro... parece que se trata de unir conceptos y pensamientos pero no... quieres decir lo que dice tu obra, pero tampoco se trata de eso.

Bueno, comenzaré por mi encuentro con la acuarela.

How difficult it is to write a book ... it seems to be the joining of concepts and thoughts but it is not... you want to say what your work says, but it’s not about that either.

Well, I’ll start with my encounter with watercolour.

TODO EMPEZÓ DE IMPROVISO

IT ALL BEGAN UNEXPECTEDLY.

- ¿Quieres venir a pintar al estudio?

Una voz con terciopelo de Sevilla estaba al teléfono y me iba sacar de mis días en casa. Hacía muy poco que me había roto el pie y al no poder utilizar las muletas por mi artritis, iba en silla de ruedas.

- ¡Sí! contesté.

- Pues Gemma te recogerá a las 9:30 y te devolverá a las 13:30 a casa.

Y así fue: de repente empecé a dedicarle horas, a copiar acuarelas de J. Constable, de W. Turner y otros pintores del siglo XVIII y XIX, en el estudio de esta empresaria de la decoración, donde trabajaban un dibujante y un pintor. A ellos acudía algunas veces en busca de ayuda.

Esta inmersión de trabajo duro y maravilloso, duró mes y medio. Fue algo providencial: el primer relámpago en la noche de mi salud. Hubo un segundo destello.

Leí en "Momo" (Michael Ende) que cuando amas a otro le transmites vida. Así me pasó a mí. Seguía mi camino de recuperación cuando una amiga arquitecta me trajo de la biblioteca pública unos videos de un acuarelista inglés llamado Ron Ranson. Metí la pastilla (aún recuerdo la música...), esperé y me fui entusiasmando: así quería pintar yo. Acuarela fresca, espontánea, que hacía saltar el agua del río, que acercaba la bruma de la mañana, que robaba el color de la naturaleza: todo con sencillos brochazos, con pocas pinturas.

Siguiendo su consejo, me puse a repetir lo que veía. Le daba al "pause" del mando a distancia... y pintaba... volvía a dar al "play", miraba y de este modo fui acercándome a su técnica. Llené blocs con cielos, con árboles y montañas, etc. Cuando me recuperé del pie y albergaba esperanzas ciertas de ir a aprender a Inglaterra, sufrí otro accidente que me retuvo tres meses: me había roto

- Would you like to come to my studio to paint?

A voice like velvet from Seville was on the phone and it was going to get me out of my days at home. I had broken my foot very recently and I was unable to use crutches due to my arthritis; I was in a wheelchair.

- Yes I would! I replied.

- Well, Gemma will pick you up at 9:30 and bring you back home at 13:30.

And so it was: suddenly, I began to spend hours copying watercolours by J. Constable, W. Turner and other painters of the 18th and 19th centuries in the studio of this businesswoman who worked in decoration, where a cartoonist and a painter also worked. Sometimes I went to them for help. The immersion in this hard and extraordinary work lasted six weeks. It was providential: the first lightning bolt in the night of my health. There was a second flash.

I read in "Momo" by Michael Ende that when you love others, you transmit life. That is what happened to me.

I was on the road to recovery when an architect friend brought me a video of an English watercolourist called Ron Ranson. I put in the cassette (I can still remember the music) I waited, and I was enthralled! This was how I wanted to paint. Fresh, spontaneous watercolour that makes the river water jump and that brings forth the morning mist, stealing the colour of nature with simple strokes and few colours.

Following my friend's advice, I began to repeat what I was seeing. I pressed the PAUSE button on the remote control ... and I painted ... Then again I pressed PLAY, I watched and thus I was getting closer to his technique. I filled notebooks with skies, trees and mountains, etc.

When I recovered from my foot injury and had some hope of being able to go to England to study, I had another ac-

el hombro derecho... El doctor escribió cuando me dio el alta: "recuperación fuera de lo normal". Yo había puesto todos los medios de la tierra y pedí los del Cielo, que no me fueron negados y ¡por fin! acompañada de mi hermano Julio tomé el avión que me llevaría a un taller de acuarelas en el país de W. Turner y de Constable: este fue el tercer relámpago de luz.

Y empecé a exponer, eran las Navidades de 1998.

Entre dos riberas: agua y color Cuando me preguntan sobre mi elección, contesto que la acuarela es un lenguaje diferente. Pintar con el agua, me exige poner más de mí y en cada pincelada voy hablando del mundo que llevo, de los sentimientos que albergo y del coraje que me empuja, o de la falta de él, por eso, cuando te metes en este idioma de la acuarela te atrapa en una tela transparente, pero firme. Es como mantener un pulso entre la razón y el corazón, un duelo agridulce entre la disciplina y la libertad, entre la pasión y el trabajo ordenado. Pintar a la acuarela es mi elección.

De la emoción al trabajo y a la experimentación No concibo mi trabajo sin un principio, aunque sea remoto, de emoción, de pasión, de sentimiento. Yo lo encuentro con frecuencia en la naturaleza.

Ella, con su diferentes cromatismos, con sus vaivenes de luz y ritmos estacionales, me acerca a una armonía que mi alma anhela. Con mi paleta trato de jugar al trueque entre realidad y sueño. Busco fuera el eco de mi interioridad y al revés, canto hacia fuera mis búsquedas en una sintonía entre mi persona y mi entorno, dialogando en una zozobra tensa y calma que desgasta y enaltece el cuerpo y el alma.

Decir más con menos palabras, es purificar la escena en los justos trazos, evocando el misterio en las aguadas y apurando sobre el papel seco los contrastes. Me suelo preguntar hacia dónde voy y cuando llegaré a la hora de "ir más allá" de lo que sé.

Un proceso Cuando camino no voy mirando lo andado, voy mirando hacia delante. Cuando vuelvo de pintar sí que miro y trato de ver lo que ha pasado en mi obra, si ha habido comunicación entre lo percibido en mis ojos y lo aprehendido en mi corazón. Si ha sido un "más de lo mismo" o "un paso más allá"...

cident that delayed the trip for three months, I broke my right shoulder. When I was discharged, the doctor wrote "recovery out of the ordinary". I had used all the physical means that I had available and I asked for help from Heaven and luck shone upon me. Finally in the company of my brother Julio, I boarded the plane that would take me to a watercolour workshop in the country of Turner and Constable. This was the third lightning bolt.

And I began to exhibit; it was the 1998 Christmas season.

Between two shores: water and colour When people ask me about my choice, I reply that watercolour is a different language. Painting with water requires me to put more of myself into every stroke. I'm talking about the world that I have, the feelings I have, and the courage that pushes me or the lack of it. That's why when you get into this watercolour language it traps you in a transparent but solid canvas. It's like an ongoing battle between reason and the heart, a bittersweet duel between discipline and freedom, between passion and orderly work. Watercolour is my choice.

From emotion to work and to experimentation I cannot imagine my work without a principle, albeit a distant one, of emotion, passion, and feeling. I often find it in nature.

Watercolour, with its different chromatics, with its vagaries of light and its seasonal rhythms, brings me closer to a harmony that my soul desires. With my palette I try to barter between reality and dreams. I am seeking the echo of my inner being and vice versa, singing out my searches on a line between myself and my surroundings, conversing in a tense, calm anxiety that wears down and exalts the body and soul.

Saying more with fewer words is to purify the scene with the right strokes, evoking mystery gouaches and hastening to put the contrasts on dry paper. I often ask where I'm going and when I will get the time to "go beyond" what I know.

A process When I walk I don’t look where I'm going, I'm looking forward. When I come back from painting I do look and try to see what has happened in my work and if there has been communication between what my eyes register and what my heart understands, whether it has been

"more of the same" or "one step further"...

I do not view the creative process as cold deliberation, as obsessive repetition, or as havoc wreaked by passions, and even less as strident provocation of the dry and artless, however loud they shout.

Yes, I applaud and admire those who work with diligence and sincerity in seeking their own creative path, those who walk their own road, without despising the shadows and shelters that appear on the path.

The jumping bouncy water of an autumn stream, the still crystal-clear water of mirrors and gold, and immense deep seawater: a theme that accompanies me and which I enjoy.

Light in nature, a colourful landscape. Many colleagues and friends in their process of painting ignore the range of chromaticism in their work. They seek simplification in favour of form. It is not my way to live without colour; I do not want to give up its contribution.

Romanticism? I do not know.

Colour Colour is the day with its range, its atmosphere, its beginning and its end. The stages of my soul, my ups and downs, and my switchbacks are of colour. You can force colour to do what you want. You can make it die or make it bored. You can make it numb, either frozen or asphyxiated. You can make it sing like gurgling water in the fountain: calm water yet still alive, quiet but interesting. Colours are the voice of the painter.

And its absence? Its deliberate silence? ... Also the night appears with its penumbra or its indifference, as an addiction, as a weariness.

Colour comes in the aroma of the landscape when viewed.

The colour of humidity: the atmosphere of late autumn colours, soft green and dull reddish tones.

The colour of the eastern sea: made up of oranges, violets and cobalts.

The winter colour of the Lower Pyrenees, tastes of grey wastelands and cold greens.

The colour of old Castile with its sienna palaces and natural shadows, illuminating and daunting at the same time.

Seville: a lively sample of spontaneous and bougainvillea sensations.

The Spanish fan unfolds ever so slightly with just a gentle movement of the hand.

ración, una reiteración obsesiva o un estrago de las pasiones, y menos aún una seca y estridente provocación carente de arte, por más que algunos lo voceen.

Sí, aplaudo y admiro a quien trabaja con laboriosidad y sinceridad en la búsqueda del propio camino creativo, recorriéndolo sin despreciar las sombras y cobijos que aparecen en la senda.

El agua saltarina y animosa de una regata otoñal, el agua mansa, cristalina, de espejos y dorados o el agua profunda e inmensa del mar: es un tema que me acompaña y con el que disfruto.

La luz en la naturaleza llena de color el paisaje. Muchos compañeros y amigos en su proceso van prescindiendo en su obra de la cromaticidad en una simplificación buscada en pro de la forma. No es mi camino prescindir del color, no deseo renunciar a su aportación. ¿Romanticismo? No lo sé.

El color Del color son el día con su abanico, su atmósfera, su inicio y clausura. Del color son mis fases del alma, mis subidas y bajadas, o mis toboganes. Se puede forzar el color. Se le puede hacer agonizar o aburrir. Se le puede dejar entumecido, como helado o bien asfixiado. Se le puede hacer que cante como gorgoteo de agua en la fuente: agua queda, pero viva; tranquila, pero interesante. Hacer hablar al color es hacer hablar al pintor. ¿Y su ausencia? ¿Su mudez deliberada?, también muestran la propia noche con su penumbra o indiferencia, como un acostumbramiento, un cansancio.

El color viene en el aroma del paisaje cuando se contempla.

El color de la humedad: atmósfera de colores de otoño tardío, tenues verdes y apagados rojizos.

El color del mar de Levante: hecho de naranjas, violetas y cobaltos.

El color invernal del Bajo Pirineo me sabe a grises yermos y verdes fríos.

El color de la vieja Castilla con sus palacios a sienas y sombras naturales, al tiempo lumínicos, apabullantes.

De Sevilla, un picoteo vivaz de sensaciones espontáneas y buganvillas.

El abanico se despliega, mas pocas varillas bastan si lo mueve la mano con emoción.

La luz Siempre me sorprendes, inesperada amiga. Unos instantes bastan para que transformes todo: los campos, la montaña, el camino, la alberca. Con tus juegos cambias el color, el ánimo y la tierra. El cielo se abre y reverberas.

Cobran vida piedras y tejas. Árboles del bosque Conectan cielo y tierra, son como el aire: bellos y cambiantes. Llenan y acogen sin agobiar. Callan altivos o achacosos. Mi querido J.R.R. Tolkien os daba vida animada y no me extraña, pues vivís inspirando y morís sirviendo. En mi papel siempre viviendo.

Agua Desde dentro se ve distinto. El río tiene su voz que canta para sí y para el que lo escucha. Me gusta su canto. Me viene de la infancia, de los sanfermines en tienda de campaña con mi padre tras la trucha. El recuerdo de despertar junto al río no se me borra. El diálogo vino más tarde, con la acuarela. En la mar me mezo en el ritmo de aguas marinas y esmeraldas.

The light It always surprises me, an unexpected friend. A few moments are enough to transform everything: the fields, the mountains, the road, the pool. With your games you change the colour, the mood and the earth. The sky opens and reverberates. The stones and tiles come alive.

Forest trees They join the sky and the earth. They are like the air: beautiful and ever changing. They swing and stay tirelessly. They hush, haughty or infirm. My dear J.R.R. Tolkien gave you animated life and no wonder, as you live inspiring and die serving. On my paper, always alive.

Water From inside it looks different. The river has a voice that sings both for itself and for the listener. I like its singing.

It takes me back to my childhood, at the San Fermín festival in a tent with my father after catching trout. The memory of waking up on the riverside stays with me.

The dialogue came later with watercolour. At sea I sway with the rhythm of emerald seawater.

1. La evolución en sus acuarelas Puesto que nos situamos frente al camino de una artista relativamente joven, hablar de un cambio definitivo en su pintura resulta en cierto modo prematuro, aunque no del todo, puesto que su técnica pictórica no ha cambiado y sigue fiel a la acuarela. No obstante ha tenido que irse planteando continuamente ser ella misma, trazarse su futuro más bien consciente que inconscientemente.

Sigue ilusionada, siente la necesidad de seguir evolucionando constantemente, aspira a conseguir nuevas metas como cualquier artista, su visión es cada vez más amplia, más completa. Ha seguido trabajando y estudiando incansablemente, con un esfuerzo agotador, que en algunos momentos, resiente su salud.

Pero lo cierto es que Txon Pomés, después de acudir a las escuelas de Ron Ranson y David Taylor hace ya unos cuantos años, ha seguido su propia trayectoria pictórica y aunque fiel a la acuarela, no quiere quedarse con los logros alcanzados. Su estímulo pasional le sitúa en algo más lejano.

Se ha dicho que la acuarela es una de las mejores técnicas para representar líquidos y transparencias, al aportar gran luminosidad y resultar fácil el conseguir las mezclas de los colores escogidos por el artista.

De secado rápido, exige regularidad y rapidez en la ejecución, algo muy bien aprehendido por la pintora que trabaja rápido frente al paisaje, cosa que le permite una gran versatilidad, algo que no es frecuente en todos los artistas.

Txon Pomés lo ha podido comprobar en sus años de aprendizaje técnico y está convencida del hecho de que la acuarela no permite fácilmente corregir errores y cree firmemente en la pincelada del artista ejecutada con intuición certera.

La artista deja zonas blancas en el papel para pintar alrededor de ellas, obteniendo así una luz centelleante que ilumina toda la composición temática de la acuarela.

También pinta en oscuro y degrada hasta llegar a conseguir zonas claras, consiguiendo efectos magistrales. Estas espontáneas veladuras logran llenar las finas capas semitransparentes de pintura logrando efectos diferentes. Su

Evolution of her watercolours Since we are at the start of the career of a relatively young artist, talking about a definite change in her painting is somewhat premature, since her painting technique has not changed and remains faithful to watercolour. However, she has constantly had to be purporting to be herself, tracing her future more consciously than not.

Still excited about her work, she feels the need to continue to evolve, aiming to achieve new goals like any artist.

Her vision is becoming ever wider and fuller. She has continued working and studying tirelessly, with such an effort that at times her health has suffered.

But the truth is that Txon Pomés, after studying under Ron Ranson and David Taylor a number of years ago, has embarked on her own painting career, which while remaining true to watercolour does not want to rest on its laurels. Her emotional stimulus places her somewhere more distant.

It has been said that watercolour is one of the best techniques to represent liquids and transparency because of the light it gives and it is easy to blend the colours chosen by the artist.

Watercolour is a fast-drying technique which requires regularity and speed of execution. This is well understood by Txon Pomés who works fast in front of the landscape to achieve great versatility, which is generally rare in artists. Txon Pomés has proved herself in her years of technical training and is convinced that watercolour cannot easily correct errors and firmly believes in the brushstrokes of the artist executed with unerring intuition.

The artist leaves blank areas on the paper to paint around them, thus obtaining a shining light that illuminates the whole of her watercolour composition.

At other times she paints in dark colours and degrades to achieve clear areas, thus obtaining masterly effects. These spontaneous glazes manage to fill semitransparent thin layers of paint to achieve different effects.

visión de la naturaleza transportada al papel con entusiasmo a base de colores, le concede un efecto mágico que denota no solo un gran control del agua sino también un saber hacer propio del esmerado artista, que ha cuidado con desvelo la ejecución de la obra.

Su mirada sintética a la par que cuidada en el detalle y con una técnica efectuada con dominio, hace que sus ríos, que han sido sus personajes principales, sigan la emoción del gorgoteo del agua que corre por los cauces de las vertientes encantadas de sus acuarelas, con la frescura del agua y del viento que la empuja por sus despeñaderos, consiguiendo que el tema del paisaje sea una de sus facetas más importantes y de más interés de su pintura; yo diría más en concreto, de la historia del estudio de su pintura, puesto que estas armonizaciones asentadas en muchas de sus acuarelas, dan dignísima fe de de su obra bien ejecutada, propia de la técnica de la acuarela.

Hace ya muchos años, J.M.W.Turner, un gran maestro de la acuarela, consideró la acuarela como el arte inglés por excelencia. Él conocía la sutileza y la versatilidad de esta técnica y supo el gran interés que tenía en la memoria gráfica de su pasión viajera, alcanzando la perfección de su formación a través de su gran “tour”, que le llevó a representar el paisaje de su país: Inglaterra. Txon Pomés también convertirá en pasión su amor por el paisaje navarro representándolo a todas horas, desde los distintos momentos y ángulos que solo el artista es capaz de plasmar. Consiguiendo una expresión más singularizada de su lenguaje propio, de su sentimiento individual, capaz de buscar nuevos elementos propios, de suscitar sus emociones, desatando su imaginación, en sus pinturas al aire libre.

Con el tiempo la artista ha ido adquiriendo un hacer propio con su expresión más característica, más genuina. Ha sido capaz de conseguir un empleo cada vez más libre y apasionado del color dejando en cierta manera su preocupación demasiado académica por la exactitud de las formas, lo que constata su más propia emoción frente a un paisaje que brinda al artista, una singular metamorfosis.

Her vision of nature is transferred to the canvas enthusiastically based on colours, giving a magical effect which denotes not only great water control but also the artist’s personal touch, which has been used to execute the work.

Her synthetic gaze, which at the same time is attentive to detail and shows a master's technique, makes her rivers, which have been her main characters, follow the excitement of gurgling water flowing through the channels of the enchanted slopes of her watercolours, with the freshness of water and wind that pushes it through ravines, making water a common theme of her landscapes and one of the most important facets of her paintings, I would say more specifically the history of the study of her painting, since this harmonization has left its mark on many of her watercolours, bearing out her well-executed watercolour technique.

Many years ago the great master of watercolour J.M.W.Turner considered watercolour to be the English art par excellence. He knew the subtlety and versatility of this technique and discovered his great interest in the graphic memory of his wanderlust, achieving the perfection of his training through his Grand Tour, which led him to represent the landscape of his country: England.

Txon Pomés will also convert into passion her love for the Navarre landscape by depicting it at all times from different moments and angles that only the artist can capture. She achieves a singular expression of her language, her individual feeling, able to find new elements and to arouse her emotions, unleashing her imagination in her outdoor paintings.

Over time the artist has found her own way with her most characteristic and most genuine expression. She has been able to find an increasingly free and passionate use of colour leaving up to a point her academic concern for the accuracy of forms, which shows her own emotion before a landscape that gives the artist a singular metamorphosis.

Where she since the graphic artist becomes a magician with her touches of colour, her iridescence, and her fantasies, she transports us, she brings us face to face with the nature she recreates in her visual imagination on her own palette. She is intimately familiar with the techniques and skills of some of the greatest watercolour painters.

2. La artista frente al paisaje Nos preguntamos hacia donde apunta mejor la obra de Txon Pomés; nuestra respuesta es sin duda, hacia el paisaje. No sólo encuentra una reproducción fiel y académica de la naturaleza, buscando un contexto pictórico, sino que su trabajo denota un conocimiento de composición armónica, de perspectiva, de puntos de fuga, de existencia de planos, de claroscuros, de armonía, de color, de dibujos coordinados, etc. Toda una serie de elementos que hacen que sus paisajes sean capaces de ser plasmados en acuarelas con dignidad, representando árboles en solitario, alfombrados por verdes praderas, o también agrupados, alineados o en caprichosas posturas que aportan una notoria frondosidad al paisaje. Su familiaridad con el paisaje navarro le aporta una creatividad propia, donde la evolución de su pintura queda patente en toda su obra. Txon Pomés ha llegado a una etapa de evolución espontánea que permite afirmar que su pintura tiene alma, representa sin duda el alma del artista. Se atreve hoy más que nunca a representar la variedad de nuestros paisajes hispanos. Su color se ha enriquecido constantemente. Todo un conjunto de premisas que por tanto hacen que la artista se decante sin duda por el paisaje donde se manifiestan mejor los efectos de la luz sobre las cosas, sobre la naturaleza, consiguiendo bellos espectáculos cromáticos, proporcionándonos asombrosas novedades, porque es en el paisaje donde la artista se plantea realmente la libertad de su pintura, ya que la luz le permite todo tipo de atrevimientos. Las modificaciones del color y de la forma suponen siempre un enriquecimiento, un profundizar en la evidencia, todo gracias a su inquietud. En Txon Pomés estos efectos de la naturaleza que suceden al concepto de la realidad, se perciben fácilmente en todos sus paisajes, algunos incluso misteriosos. Ya los paisajistas holandeses gozaron de esta sensación de misterio, pudiendo afirmar que el impresionismo fue una etapa enormemente significativa, dentro de la innovación, de la renovación y en definitiva de la libertad, logrando una pretendida vitalidad.

Txon Pomés quizá hoy se prolonga más allá de unos paisajes de antaño, primeros paisajes, donde sus evocadoras raíces, en algunos aspectos aparentemente melancólicos, aportan unas acuarelas académicas, propias de una naturaleza que saca del agua vida, serenidad y enorme paz; algunos, hace ya unos años las calificaron de "acuarelas del silencio". Una etapa, que hoy goza ya de más adjetivos, puesto que sus montes, sus cataratas, sus remansos de agua, sus riachuelos, sus celajes, denotan una fina apreciación del paisaje moderno tan fino, tan sutil, que se sitúa entre la naturaleza y la imaginación, junto a maravillosas adivinaciones.

Sin duda nos encontramos frente a una artista apasionada del paisaje. Comprobamos el avance de fluidez, de flexibilidad de la pincelada que traspasa la frontera del realismo. En Cascada Paraíso 2008 nos sorprenden las tonalidades pétreas conseguidas a base de trabajo agotador buscando el motivo a base de atravesar montes, de reposar cerca de riachuelos en busca de temática, de nítidas atmósferas, siempre en plácida sencillez. No obstante dentro del género paisajístico, la artista no sólo se abre paso frente al paisaje de la montaña sino que también aspira y se deleita en las composiciones urbanas que indudablemente le ofrecen un largo recorrido, entre ellas plazas, calles, cancelas, etc., también techos que se contemplan desde las buhardillas y que protagonizaron la pintura de tantos artistas famosos, donde gracias a la exaltación del color y el difuminado de los contornos, consiguieron notables efectos. Son conocidos los techos de Van Gogh, los famosos techos de Blanes Viale, famoso pintor uruguayo que actuó como comisario de la primera exposición internacional europea de Bruselas en 1915, marcando un hito en la pintura europea y americana y el mismo sobrino de éste, José Francisco Sureda Blanes, con sus techos de Artá (Mallorca) que se contemplan desde el Santuario de la Virgen de San Salvador. A estos artistas se les considera pioneros en el paisajismo balear.

Sin duda habrá que incluir en la pintura del paisaje balear a nuestra artista Txon Pomés que ha asumido una gran dosis de luminosidad como pudimos observar en su exposición en el Ayuntamiento de Campos. Aquí presentó una serie de acuarelas del paisaje mallorquín con una paleta más colorista y lógicamente mediterránea.

With Txon Pomés these effects of nature that follow one another in the concept of reality are easily perceived in all her landscapes, some of which are even mysterious. Dutch landscape painters enjoyed this sense of mystery and could say that Impressionism was an enormously significant step in innovation, renewal, and ultimately freedom, achieving an alleged vitality. Perhaps today Txon Pomés goes beyond the landscapes of yesteryear, early landscapes, where their evocative roots in some seemingly melancholy aspects provide academic watercolours, typical of nature that brings water to life, serenity and great peace, which a few years ago some described as "watercolours of silence." This is a stage which today already enjoys more adjectives, since its mountains, its waterfalls, its backwaters, its brooks, and its cloudscapes show an appreciation of modern landscape so fine and subtle that it lies between nature and imagination with wonderful divinations.

Undoubtedly we are concerned with a passionate landscape artist. We can appreciate the advance of the fluidity and the flexibility of the brushstroke that crosses the frontier of realism. In Paraiso waterfall 2008 we are surprised by the stony tonalities achieved based on exhausting work seeking motifs based on crossing mountains, on resting near streams in search of themes, and of sharp atmospheres, always in placid simplicity. We would say that in a fierce struggle everything flows, everything invades, and everything is juxtaposed, drawing from the same mist a selected portion of the landscape in vital composition, penetrating contemporary art in search of hazy and clear horizons, a mountain landscape sung also by poets and other writers.

However, within the landscape genre the artist not only makes her mark on upland scenery but also seeks and revels in urban compositions that undoubtedly provide her with much material for her inspiration, including squares, streets, gates, etc. Also roofs that can be contemplated from the attics and which featu-

Por tanto Txon Pomés, hoy por hoy se nos muestra no sólo como paisajista de Navarra, su tierra natal, sino también del paisaje mediterráneo dentro de una apuesta colorista. No solo opta por sus paisajes de montaña, elogiados y descritos, también lo hace por los paisajes urbanos y un prometedor lance por sus paisajes marinos, con sus playas areniscas, sus oleajes, sus transparencias, sus fondos marinos, etc. que sin duda constituyen nuevas aportaciones a su técnica, a su temática, y a su color. Son paisajes donde la naturaleza con frecuencia aparece como protagonista absoluta, aunque de vez en cuando se observen algunas siluetas de humanos, como podemos observar en Úbeda Jaén 2015 donde la captación solar encuadra nuestra mirada, o en Prócida Nápoles 2015, con una sensación de vida y movimiento que nos introduce en el cuadro, o en Parque en primavera 2003, donde los árboles verdes y viole-

The roofs of Van Gogh are well known together with the famous roofs of Blanes Viale, the famous Uruguayan painter who was the organiser of the first European international exhibition in Brussels in 1915 that marked a milestone in European and American painting. His nephew Joseph Francisco Sureda Blanes painted his roofs of Artá (Mallorca) contemplated from the Shrine of Our Lady of San Salvador. These artists are considered pioneers among Balearic landscape painters.

No doubt painters of the Balearic landscape will also include our artist Txon Pomés who has taken on a great deal of light as we saw in her exhibition in the Campos Town Hall. Here she presented a series of watercolours of the Mallorca landscape with a more colouristic and logically Mediterranean palette. Her compositions of the beaches of Cala Agulla, Son Moll, Font de la Cala, Cala Figuera, Sa Rapita Beach 2013, etc ... are strong evidence of this and are undoubtedly achievements to be taken into account. This chapter would be incomplete if we were not able to praise them since all evolution and all enrichment is no doubt progress to be taken into account. Therefore Txon Pomés today shows us not only the landscape of her homeland Navarre but also has colouristic faith in the Mediterranean landscape.

Not only does she choose its mountain scenery that has been praised and described but her watercolours also convey streetscapes and a promising option for her seascapes, with their sandy beaches, their waves, their transparency, their seabed, etc.. They undoubtedly constitute new contributions to her technique, her themes, and her colour. These are landscapes where nature often appears as the sole protagonist, although occasionally some silhouettes of humans can be seen. This can be appreciated in Ubeda Jaén 2015, where the capture of the sun draws our gaze, or in Procida Naples 2015 with a sensation of life and movement that brings us into the picture, or in Park in springtime 2003, where the green trees

Su pincelada ha ido ganando en cromaticidad sin llegar a la fantasmagórica plástica de otros artistas grandes como Anglada, Ramón Casas, Mir, Blanes, Viale, que son la exaltación del color. Tampoco al concepto de otros paisajistas más actuales como Sureda Blanes, Ramón Nadal etc., que por su extraordinaria ejecución resaltan la limpidez de las aguas mediterráneas y con su técnica increíblemente hábil y sensible, han pintado con abundante cromática y excelente regocijo, así ya lo hicieron otros pintores hispanos: Berruete, Fortuny, Riancho, Pinazo, Echevarría etc., y tantos otros pintores impresionistas que, en uso de su libertad, lucharon por expresar algo nuevo y genuino, depurando sus técnicas y su cromatismo. Tanto los pintores del norte, como los del sur, como los mediterráneos y en toda España, realizaron obras considerables consiguiendo hacer escuela en todos nuestros rincones. Al igual que en Francia y muchos otros países extranjeros, donde se alejaron del criterio realista, para ir empleando el color como factor singular de expresión, toda una lumínica renovación, en ordenada composición, dando fluidez y flexibilidad a la forma, como en su pincelada directa digna de elogio.

The roofs that the artist has sometimes noticed, like so many painters attracted by urban landscapes of growing popularity, encourage her to seek a more conspicuous expression, provoking other common emotions which are now also part of her theme and deserve comment in another section.

Her brushwork has been gaining colour without the plastic phantasmagoria of other great artists such as Anglada, Ramón Casas, Mir, and Blanes Viale, who represent the exaltation of colour. Neither does it reach the concept of other more current landscape artists such as Sureda Blanes, Ramón Nadal, etc., who with their extraordinary execution highlight the limpid waters of the Mediterranean and with their incredibly skilled and sensitive technique have painted with abundant colour and excellent spirit, as did other Spanish painters such as Berruete, Fortuny, Riancho, Pinazo, Echevarria etc., and many other impressionist painters who used their freedom and struggled to express something new and genuine, refining their techniques and their chromaticism. Both painters from the north, from south to the Mediterranean, and from throughout Spain produced outstanding work to lead the way in our country. As in France and many other foreign countries, where the realistic approach was abandoned in favour of using colour as a singular factor of expression, an entire renovation of light in orderly composition, giving fluidity and flexibility to form as in their direct expert brushwork.

3. Del agua Dentro del paisaje, los ríos en algún momento han sido los auténticos protagonistas de su pintura: a la vez que siente el correr del agua, la convierte en uno de sus temas más importantes y preferidos.

El agua, con sus caprichosos movimientos, a través de los montes, riscos y entre rocas y matojos, empieza a tener color, aporta fuerza y vitalidad a sus acuarelas. Sin duda sus estancias de norte a sur han sido determinantes para que su indagación paisajística haya ido adquiriendo más colorido. Pero sin duda el paisaje navarro ha sido su primer escenario y le ha permitido más tarde contrastarlo con los colores del Levante español, tan puramente mediterráneos.

Sus torrenteras, remansos y riachuelos, son índice de una riquísima percepción del paisaje moderno, a veces tan fino y tan sutil, que se sitúa entre la naturaleza y la imaginación, como acertadas adivinanzas.

Los mares con su omnipresencia aportan un sentido de libertad y amplitud, como anteriormente en algunos de sus trabajos, creando una atmósfera más amplia. Sus obras van siendo cada vez más perfectas en su ejecución, más emotivas, más por su concepción y atrevimiento que por su composición técnica. Hola Txon: Te pido disculpas por no escribirte ayer en tu libro de firmas pero es que soy un poco lento y necesito mi tiempo y hoy, desde mi rincón y con calma intentaré explicarte lo que vi en tus cuadros. Me gusta la frescura de tu pincelada, ese intento de quedarte más con la sensación que produce un paisaje que con la descripción de sus elementos. Conoces la técnica y la utilizas debidamente para comunicar tus sensaciones.

Tus cuadros me trasmiten levedad y fragilidad, veo en tu pincelada un trazo sutil y respetuoso, quizá en algunos momentos demasiado respetuoso que dejan intuir, no sé, una contención, una Txon (perdóname el atrevimiento) con ganas de soltar un puñetazo de vez en cuando. Bueno, es difícil de explicarlo con palabras, lo que quiero decirte es que creo que detrás de esa delicadeza existe una fuerza muy poderosa que está pidiendo salir por alguna parte. Veo en tus cuadros mucho poder y una gran sensibilidad para captar en el paisaje la grandeza de lo sencillo. Te felicito por tu trabajo y en algún momento me gustaría conocer tu opinión sobre el mío.

Hello Txon: I apologize for not writing to you yesterday in your guest book but I'm a little slow and I need my time and today, from my own patch and calmly I will try to explain what I saw in your pictures. I like the freshness of your stroke, this attempt to stay more with the feeling that a landscape produces with the description of its elements. You know the technique and you use it well to communicate your feelings. Your paintings convey to me slightness and fragility. I see in your brushwork a subtle and respectful stroke, perhaps at times too respectful hinting at, I don't know, a contention, a Txon (forgive my audacity) wanting to drop a punch from time to time . Well, it's difficult to explain in words but what I want to say is that I think that behind this delicacy there is a very powerful force that wants to come out somewhere. Se abrocha la bata salpicada de pintura y se sienta en el sofá de su estudio, rodeada de cuadros con paisajes de tonos azules y verdes. Txon Pomés Ruiz, acuarelista pamplonesa, apaga la radio y se coloca las gafas sonriendo en silencio. Cruza las manos sobre su regazo, mientras confiesa que siempre lleva encima pinceles y pinturas. “Espero no acostumbrarme nunca a la belleza”, susurra, señalando algunas de sus acuarelas preferidas: matorrales de un verde intenso, playas catalanas o campos navarros. Hace más de 30 años que le diagnosticaron una A.R. enfermedad autoinmune que deforma y debilita las articulaciones, y reconoce que fue la enfermedad la que le llevó a la acuarela, “una gran ventana cuando la puerta se había cerrado”. Muestra con entusiasmo las pinturas que guarda en su estudio de Echavacoiz, pero ahí no están todas, comenta, pues algunas esperan en Nueva York, donde Txon hará una exposición colectiva en diciembre.

- De Pamplona a Manhattan, ¿no?

- Bueno (risas), no expongo yo sola, pero hace tanto frío en Nueva York que creo que no voy a ir.

-¿Cómo surgió la exposición en Nueva York?

- Hace tres años conocí en Irún a los que llevaban la galería en la que están mis cuadros, Crisolart Galleries, que tiene una sede en Barcelona y otra en Nueva York. Les encantaron las pinturas y me dijeron que si quería exponer.

Pasó el tiempo y, hace poco, se acordaron y me llamaron.

- Pamplona y Manhattan, pero también estuvo trabajando en Bilbao, ¿por qué volvió a Pamplona?

- Yo estudié ISSA, Asistente de Dirección, en San Sebastián y empecé a trabajar de secretaria en Bilbao. Tenía

"I never get used to beauty," she whispers, pointing out some of her favourite watercolours: thickets of bright green, Catalan beaches, or the Navarre countryside. More than 30 years ago she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease that weakens and deforms joints, and acknowledges that it was the disease that led her to watercolour; "a large window opened when the door was closed." She enthusiastically shows the paintings she keeps in her studio in Echavacoiz, but as she says they are not all here as some are in New York, where Txon will put on a joint exhibition in December.

- From Pamplona to Manhattan, right?

- Well (laughs), I do not exhibit myself; it's so cold in New York that I think I won't go.

How did the show get to New York?

- Three years ago I met in Irun those who ran the gallery where my pictures are, Crisolart Galleries; they have an office in Barcelona and another in New York. They loved the paintings and asked me if I wanted to exhibit. Time passed and not long ago they called me.

- Pamplona and Manhattan, but you were also working on Bilbao, why did you return to Pamplona?

- I studied at the ISSA School of Management (Assistant Director in San Sebastian) and started working as a se-

26 años cuando me diagnosticaron artritis reumatoide, y tuve que dejar el trabajo. También abandoné el monte, mi deporte favorito, y la guitarra. Aquello me cambió la vida, me encontraba muy mal de salud y no sabía qué hacer. Al final tuve que volver a Pamplona y ahora, como hay muy buena medicación, me ves bien.

Casi puedo decir que la enfermedad fue una suerte.

-¿Una suerte?

- Sí, yo antes no paraba quieta y con la enfermedad me cambió el chip. Solía dar más importancia a lo que hacía que a lo que era y medía la vida por su utilidad.

Gracias a la artritis vi que la gente enferma no es inútil porque no pueda hacer algunas cosas, sino que mejora a la gente de su alrededor.

-¿Lo percibió así al principio?

- No, fue muy duro, pero he tenido muchos amigos que me han ayudado a encontrar el sentido y han tirado de mí hacia delante.

- Y entonces empezó a pintar.

- En Bilbao ya pintaba algo, pero fue en Pamplona donde aprendí, pues iba al taller de pintura de una empresaria que conozco. Yo ya estaba con artritis y tuve dos accidentes que marcaron mi vida. En uno, me rompí un hueso del pie derecho, el calcáneo, y tuve que ir en silla de ruedas. No podía hacer nada, pero la empresaria me dijo: “Tú tienes los pies mal, pero las manos las tienes divinas”, y me convenció para ir todos los días a pintar. Aquello fue un despegue impresionante en la acuarela, porque me dediqué a copiar a los acuarelistas del siglo XVIII y XIX. - Y tuvo un segundo accidente.

- Sí, fue más tarde. Otra amiga me trajo un vídeo de un acuarelista inglés llamado Ron Ranson y, cuando lo puse, me quedé prendada, así que lo empecé a copiar. Conseguí hablar con él y me invitó a unos cursos que daba en su casa en Inglaterra. Entonces me caí por segunda vez y me rompí el hombro.

-¿Y fue?

- Sí, por fin fui a Inglaterra. Al principio creí que no iba a ser posible, porque no podía ir con el hombro roto, pero me recuperé. Es más, antes del accidente tenía el hombro congelado por la artritis, no lo podía subir, y al romperme el hombro gané más arco.

- Yes, I still did not slow down before the disease and I got with it. I used to give more importance to what I was doing instead of measuring life by its usefulness. Thanks to arthritis I saw that sick people are not useless because they cannot do some things, but improve the people around them.

- ¿Did you see things this way from the beginning?

- No, at first it was very hard, but I had many friends who have helped me find a meaning to life and have encouraged me.

- And then you began to paint.

- In Bilbao I did some paintings, but it was in Pamplona where I learnt at the paint shop of a businesswoman I know. I already had arthritis and had had two accidents that marked my life. In one I broke a bone in my right foot, the calcaneum, and I had to use a wheelchair. I could do nothing, but the entrepreneur said: "You have bad feet, but your hands are divine", and convinced me to go every day to paint. That was an impressive start in watercolour, because I devoted myself to copying the watercolours of the 18th and 19th-century painters.

- And then you had a second accident.

- Yes, that was later. Another friend brought me a video of an English watercolourist called Ron Ranson and when I watched it I was hooked, so I started to copy. I got to talk to him and I was invited to some courses at his home in England. Then I fell for the second time and broke my shoulder.

- And did you go?

- Yes, I finally went to England. At first I thought it was not going to be possible, because I could not go with my broken shoulder, but I recovered. Moreover, before the accident I had a frozen shoulder due to arthritis, I could not get up, and what with breaking my shoulder I got more of an arch.

-¿En Bilbao pintaba ya acuarela?

- No, hacía un dibujo y rellenaba con acuarela, pero eso no es pintar acuarela.

-¿Qué es pintar acuarela?

- (Risas). Pintar acuarela es dibujar con el color, no es rellenar un dibujo con pintura y agua, sino transportar una atmósfera.

-¿Y por qué no óleo?

- Me es más difícil hacer óleo por mi limitación en las manos, pero, de todas maneras, me gusta mucho más la acuarela, porque juegas con algo que no dominas del todo. Es un ritmo diferente al del óleo. En la acuarela hace falta tener coraje para simplificar y decir algo con muy pocos brochazos.

-¿Coraje?

- Sí, todo ha de ser en el momento, si no, se te seca el papel. Eso requiere un ritmo en el que el pincel sigue a tu brazo, y este, a tu espíritu. No es como en el óleo, en el que se puede retocar, sino que todo se pone en un brochazo fuerte.

- Entonces, ¿cuánto tarda en hacer una pintura?

- Si hablamos en valores del momento depende, desde un par de días hasta media hora, pero si hablamos en valores absolutos, años. He estado muchos años pintando otras cosas para poder pintar un cuadro determinado, una cascada, por ejemplo, porque hacer las cosas sencillas requiere mucho tiempo.

- Usted suele pintar paisajes, calles o parques, pero no la figura humana, ¿por qué?

- El retrato no me interesa y, sobre todo, me gusta pintar aquello donde me quedaría. Me encanta pintar el campo, porque de pequeña acompañaba a mi padre que iba a pescar e íbamos mucho al monte. Me gustan los cielos, los ríos. Es difícil de explicar, pero uno ama lo que ha vivido.

- Llama la atención lo armónicos que son sus cuadros, con colores serenos y líneas horizontales, como si aspirasen al infinito.

- No hay rompimientos, es cierto. Cada uno pinta como es. Una persona que no tiene esperanza pintará el drama interno que padece, así que seguro que no usará el color. Yo, por ejemplo, no podría pintar nunca con negro y rojo juntos, me produce una tensión que

- Were you painting with watercolours in Bilbao?

- No, I would draw and then fill it in with watercolour, but that's not real watercolour.

- What is watercolour painting?

- (Laughs) Watercolour painting is drawing with colour, not filling in a drawing with paint and water, but conveying an atmosphere.

- Why not oil?

- It is more difficult for me to paint with oil due to my problems with my hands, but anyway I much prefer watercolour because you're playing with something that says nothing at all. Oil has a different pace. In watercolour you need to have the courage to simplify and say something with very few brushstrokes.

- Courage?

- Yes, everything has to be done at the time; if not the paper dries. That requires a pace at which the brush follows your arm, and in this way your spirit. It's not like oil which I can touch up and everything is executed with strong brushstrokes.

- So how long does it take to produce a painting?

- If we are talking of time as such it depends, from a couple of days to half an hour, but if we are talking in absolute terms it takes years. I have spent many years painting other things in order to paint a particular picture, a waterfall, for example, because making things simple is time-consuming.

- You usually paint landscapes, streets or parks, but not the human figure. Why? - Portraits do not interest me and, above all, I like to paint where I would stay. I love to paint the countryside because when I was little I accompanied my father when he went fishing and we went hiking. I like the skies, the rivers. It's hard to explain, but you love what you have lived.

- You draw attention with the harmonics that are your paintings, with serene colours and horizontal lines, as if aspiring to infinity.

- There are no breaks, it is true. Each painting has its own existence. A person who has no hope will paint the inner drama that he or she suffers so surely that you will not use the colour. I, for example, could never paint with black and red together, it gives me a tension that I cannot

no soporto, por eso pinto más con verde y azul.

- Suele pintar un instante, al estilo impresionista. ¿Por qué?

- Porque pintar un instante es robar la inmediatez de un momento para el papel. Eso es siempre un reto con el que disfruto e intento transmitir una sensación. A veces lo consigo y otras veces, no.

-¿Qué hay más: éxitos o fracasos?

- De todo, los fracasos son éxitos en potencia. Sin embargo, hay que ser humilde para admitir que no todo lo que haces está bien. Mi primer maestro, después de haber pintado una acuarela, cogió el papel y lo rompió delante de sus alumnos. “Esto no vale nada”, dijo.

Eso fue humilde, y en acuarela hay que serlo porque el agua es algo que se escapa.

-¿Cómo transmite una historia o una idea con un cuadro?

- Por un lado, hay que conocer la técnica en acuarela, porque si no, no puedes transmitir nada, pero pintar es sobre todo pasión, encontrar algo que te robe un poco el alma y mostrarlo. En un cuadro estás contando un momento que has vivido y por eso hace falta emocionarse. Que mucha gente pueda sentir lo que yo he sentido es precioso. Por ejemplo, tengo un cuadro en el que los edificios están solo intuidos porque lo importante para mí eran las barcas y el cielo.

(Pausa). Sobre todo el cielo.

- ¿Cómo es su día a día? Por ejemplo, ¿qué ha hecho hoy?

- Esta mañana al venir al estudio he pensado que tenía que repetir una acuarela que me había salido un poco mal de la zona de Jaurrieta, donde encontré unos campos con un contraluz muy fuerte. Lo he conseguido, aunque nunca acabas de quedarte contenta del todo, siempre piensas que te podría haber salido mejor.

- ¿Siempre?

- Casi siempre (risas). En alguna sí que me he quedado satisfecha, por ejemplo en un acantilado de Cadaqués que pinté hace dos años.

- ¿Suele pintar en el estudio?

- A veces, pero prefiero pintar al aire libre y en el momento. Eso te obliga a sintetizar, porque no tienes

stand, so I paint more with green and blue.

- You usually paint an instant, the impressionist style.

Why? - Painting an instant is stealing the immediacy of a moment to put it on paper. That's always a challenge that I enjoy and I try to convey a feeling. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes not.

- What do you have more of, successes or failures?

- All in all, failures are successes. However, we must be humble and admit that not everything we do is right. My first teacher, after painting a watercolour, tore it up in front of his students. "This is worthless," he said. That was humble, and watercolour must be because water is something that escapes.

- How do you transmit a story or an idea with a picture?

- On the one hand, you must know the watercolour technique, because if you don't you cannot transmit anything, but painting is especially passion, encountering something that steals a little bit of soul and shows it. In a picture you're narrating a moment that you have lived and therefore it’s easy to get emotional. The fact that many people can feel what I have felt is beautiful. For example, I have a picture in which the buildings are only hinted at because the important things for me were the boats and the sky. (Pause) Above all the whole sky.

- How is your day? For example, what have you done today?

- (Laughs) This morning I came to the studio and I thought I had to repeat a watercolour that didn’t come out very well in the Jaurrieta area, where I encountered some fields with a strong backlight. I succeeded, although I am never completely satisfied; you always feel you could have done better.

- Always?

- Almost always (laughs). I have been satisfied with some, for example with one of a cliff in Cadaqués that I painted two years ago.

- Do you usually paint in the studio?

- Sometimes, but I prefer to paint outdoors and on the spot. That forces you to synthesize, because you have the time and the light changes. I have a watercolour, for example, that I painted while it was raining just outside

tiempo y la luz cambia. Tengo una acuarela, por ejemplo, que pinté lloviendo justo fuera del estudio. Al principio no llovía, pero al final un vecino tuvo que abrir un paraguas porque se estaba mojando la pintura. Disfruté muchísimo. No entiendo cómo no hay más gente a la que le guste esto.

- Si siempre funciona con un mismo tema o un concepto de belleza, ¿cómo puede avanzar y no repetirse?

- Al pintar un cuadro algo te ha tenido que llamar la atención: una luz, un color o un recuerdo. Si te repites, no hay emoción, por eso tienes que experimentar y formarte.

Antes pintaba con uno o dos azules y ahora los he enriquecido por influencias de otros y por observar el mar de Cadaqués, que tiene infinitos azules. Tienes una línea fija que se abre a nuevas texturas, colores o brochazos.

- Influencias como Ron Ranson.

- Y como David Taylor, un australiano con el que he pintado en cursos internacionales. Hay que ir buscando para cambiar, aunque salir de lo que nos sale bien siempre es un riesgo.

- Comenzó a pintar por su enfermedad, ahora, ¿por qué pinta?

- La pintura es mi vida, no podría vivir sin pintar. Aunque, bueno, siempre se puede vivir sin lo que pensabas que no podrías. (Pausa). En febrero estuve dos meses y medio sin poder utilizar la mano derecha por un accidente de un nervio y no pude pintar, porque no sé pintar con la izquierda. Al final el mal remitió. Si la medicina no falla y Dios quiere, espero no tener que colgar los pinceles nunca.

-¿Alguna vez imaginó que su vida iba a ser así?

- No tan bonita. Mucha gente me ha enriquecido y he visto que la pintura es un servicio a los demás. El año pasado expuse en la Ciudadela y entró una chica en silla de ruedas que parecía muy enferma. Estuvo llorando unos momentos en un rincón y luego se me acercó para preguntarme si podía enseñarle acuarela. Le dije que en febrero de cada año daba unas sesiones. “Uy, febrero”, murmuró. Así que le contesté que le llamaría en octubre, si quería. “Mejor, mejor – respondió –, tus cuadros me han aportado esperanza”. (Pausa). Cuando pasó el tiempo, me enteré de que había fallecido. Su madre me contó que las acuarelas le habían hecho feliz.

- If you always work with the same theme or concept of beauty, how can you move forward and not repeat?

- When you are painting a picture something has to attract your attention: a light, a colour, or a memory. If you repeat, you have no emotion, so you have to experiment and train yourself. Before I used to paint with one or two blues and now I have expanded owing to the influences of others and watch the sea of Cadaqués, which has endless blues. You have a fixed line that is open to new textures, colours and brushstrokes.

- Influences such as Ron Ranson.

- And David Taylor, an Australian with whom I painted on international courses. There you go looking for change, but what comes out well for us is always a risk.

- You started painting because of your illness, so now why paint?

- Painting is my life, I could not live without painting.

Well, you can always live without what you thought you could not. (Pause). For two and a half months I was unable to use my right hand due to an accident in a nerve and I could not paint, because I do not paint with my left hand. In the end the evil subsided. If medicine does not fail and God is willing, I hope never to have to give up painting.

- Did you ever imagine that your life would be like this?

- No, not as nice. Many people have enriched me and I saw that painting is a service to others. Last year I exhibited at the Citadel and a girl in a wheelchair who seemed very ill came in. She was crying in a corner for a few moments and then approached me to ask if I taught watercolour. I said that every year in February I give a few sessions. "Oh, February," she murmured.

So I said I would call her in October if she wanted.

"Much better” – she answered - "Your paintings have given me hope." (Pause). When time passed I learnt that she had died. Her mother told me that watercolour paintings had made her happy.

BIOGRAFÍA Y FORMACIÓN En 1973 obtiene en San Sebastián la Diplomatura de ISSA Management-Assistant (Universidad de Navarra).

Descubre la magia de la acuarela gracias al pintor Ron Ranson. Asiste a sus talleres en Inglaterra los años 1999, 2002 y 2003. En mayo del 2004, Ron Ranson viene a inaugurar la exposición de la artista en Bilbao. Ranson le da a conocer a David K. Taylor (Australia) y realiza varios talleres de acuarela con él en Europa. Realiza también cursos con los pintores acuarelistas Joseph Zbukvic (Croacia) y Alvaro Castagnet (Uruguay).

Es miembro de la Agrupación de acuarelistas Vascos y de la Nordiska Akvarellsälls- kapet.

BIOGRAFY AND EDUCATION In 1973 I obtain the Diplome of Management-Assistant (University of Navarre), in San Sebastian (Spain).

I discover the magic of watercolor in Wales, G.B. with Ron Ranson. I attend his workshops in 1999, 2002 y 2003, and in 2004 he comes to open my exhibition in Bilbao. This painter leads me to meet David K. Taylor (Australia) and I follow several watercolor courses with him in Europe. I have also attended workshops with Joseph Zbukvic (Croatia) and Alvaro Castagnet (Uruguay).

I am a Member of the Basque Watercolor Association and Nordiska Akvarellsälls-kapet.
