Howdy We are here to build a platform and give recognition to female-identifying artists of any and all mediums. We are here to prove that doing something “like a girl” is not synonymous with “weak” or “inadequate.” We are here to show you the incredible things that women are capable of. CASUAL From the dust on the frame of the door To the clothes on the floor My internal struggle was externally expressed through the mess We had to deny our lips the privilege We had to limit our vocabulary To protect ourselves from the inevitable Finding alternatives that couldn’t carry the weight of what I need to get off of me What a shame it was that I had to used watered down words to appease our reality What pain that I couldn’t look you in the eye and tell you that I love that you are mine How vain that we let our circumstances get in between our honesty We said everything but those three And to this day it haunts me Now that you are gone, I’m not afraid to say it, I love....d you Now that we are done, I wish I would’ve said how I love...d you Now that she’s won your heart, I know I shouldn’t say... but I love...d you

BE STRONG Be strong they tell me as the tears struggle to drop Remember to be brave they say as everything hurts all at once Don’t forget your dignity they utter when all I want is to fall apart But what about vulnerability and the power it holds? To be vulnerable is to be strong and to be brave is to let down your walls To be dignified is to be worthy of respect and that is what my body needs It needs its feelings and pain to be valued and respected instead of ignored and suppressed Why do we treat pain like it’s an illusion or something to get over? Pain is an inward expression that something’s not right Pain turns to numbness and numbness to tears But each of those things takes time to feel Remember healing follows a breaking Don’t forget that time helps us forget the bitter taste pain left Don’t forget that sometimes time doesn’t heal wounds it just distances us from the raw reality of pain and grief

THE DRAWING BOARD The drawing board Clean again Here again “Free” again Needing to find myself again And redefine myself again Find meaning in the pain Words helping me to explain The things I needed to say But never found the strength to say How the blood in my veins Flows quicker when I hear your name How, when you held me I felt safe And when you’re around, other things fade to grey How you healed the parts of me that were stained How I’ll never see love the same And how I now trust myself to love with all the blood in my veins
59
BREATHING There’s a million things I say, but I’m not saying anything. I fill the void with noise just to keep myself from the sound of your voice. I know if I stop to catch my breath, it’ll be the last I take as yours He’ll be gone and I’ll be here focusing on my breathing to keep myself from seeing that he’s leaving I’ll keep on deceiving myself from the reality that he’ll never be the one I get to keep I’ll keep on receiving empty condolences from people that believe they need to reach out to me in order to show sympathy All the while I’m sorting through the pieces and realizing what he left me with was proof that some come just for a season. All the while I’m blossoming and letting parts die of me while learning how to withstand the seasons. Watching the debris and decay and knowing that those are proof of another day. One that was good in it’s time and now is just something to remind me of who I was before the seasons changed. A lot of things need to break in order to make sense again A lot of people need to leave in order to be whole again A lot of seasons need to change in order to be free again
