After one of our busiest ever years in 2022, we can’t wait to share with you the incredible events we’ve got coming up at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House in 2023.

Our comedy programme remains one of the strongest in the region, with David O’Doherty, Jimeoin, Judi Love, Sara Pascoe, Mark Steel, Babatunde Aléshé and Phil Wang all on our listings before we even reach summer! Tyne To Stand Up returns on International Women’s Day, in aid of Rape Crisis, shining a light on fantastic women comedians in the North East.

Brace yourself for the ghost story experience of the year with The Wicked Lady in February. Other unmissable Theatre shows include Walk Like A Man, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, WEOS present the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof and Tyne Theatre Productions present School of Rock, based on the hit film, a sensational testimony to the transforming power of music!

Folk music fans will love Simon & Garfunkel: Through The Years and Levellers Acoustic Tour, while film music fans should check out The Magical Music of Harry Potter.

We also have some huge names taking to our stage in conversation including Danny Baker, Kevin Keegan, Grayson Perry, Fran Lebowitz and Priscilla Presley

TAKE A TOUR

A day out at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House will take you back over 150 years.

The one hour tour of the building will explore all areas, including the understage, backstage and many other secret areas never seen on a normal visit. Your tour guide will highlight tales of its stars, its shows and even its ghosts…

Tours cost £7.50 per person. All tours begin at 11am unless otherwise stated.

Guided Tours take place once a month on a Saturday. For details of dates and to book please see our website.

In person at the box office: Open Mon-Fri from 10am - 3:30pm (or until show start if there is a performance that evening). For weekend performances, box office will open a minimum of one and a half hours before show start. Always buy your tickets through the venue or through the artist’s homepage. We are not liable for tickets bought through third party websites.

Concessions

For performances where concessions are available, this applies to customers under the age of 16 and over the age of 60 unless otherwise stated. Where there is an option to select a family ticket, this refers to a family of 4, consisting of 1 adult and 3 children or 2 adults and 2 children (children must be under 16).

Access information

Due to the age of the Grade 1 listed Victorian building, only the Stalls level seating is accessible for patrons with limited mobility as we have no lift in the Theatre. We have a total of 4 wheelchair spaces in the Stalls. There are accessible toilet facilities at the back of the auditorium and the Bistro Bar is accessible via a ramp. Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas of the Theatre. Whatever access needs you may have, please get in touch with our team in advance of booking if you have any questions regarding which seating is most suitable for you.

Accessibility/carer booking

Carers are entitled to a free ticket for any show.

All accessible/carer bookings must go through our box office. For any of our upcoming shows, please ring 0191 243 1171 during box office opening hours and press ‘2’ for an accessible booking when prompted. If you have any additional needs or requirements which may mean you require specific seats, you can also contact our box office team.

Food & drink

There are bars on all levels of the Theatre, including our main Bistro Bar on the ground floor. Alcoholic and soft beverages are available, plus snacks. We don’t offer any hot food or meal options.

Your safety

Please be aware for the safety and comfort of our customers, we do perform bag searches. We have no cloakroom facility, so if possible, please do not bring unnecessary large personal items such as rucksacks, luggage or shopping bags. There is no alcohol, glass, cans, hot food or drinks permitted into the venue.

Babies and children

In our policy, children 18 months or younger classify as Babes in Arms and will not need a ticket, though some shows aimed at younger children will have a different policy – this will be included in the event description. Children over 18 months old will need a ticket, even if you want to keep them on your lap.

Buggy storage

We have a buggy/pram park at the back of the auditorium Stalls level. Please note that space is limited – our staff will try their best to help but if you are able to do without a buggy, we kindly ask that you leave it at home.

Booster seats

We do have booster seats but they are limited – please ask a member of staff upon arrival. It’s perfectly acceptable if you want to keep your child on your knee as long as they’re not obstructing the view for people behind you.

Limited view seats

We are a Victorian Grade 1 listed building, and the view from certain seats may be restricted, though this can vary depending on the performance. Limited view seats will be indicated on seating plans.

Lost tickets

If you booked your tickets online through our website (Eventim), called our booking hotline or visited the Box Office, your ticket details will be in our system. If you bring your confirmation email or receipt with the booking reference number to the theatre, we can re-print your tickets for you (however, there will be a small reprinting fee per ticket). If you booked your tickets through another ticketing site, please return to the point of purchase for help.

Refunds

Our tickets are non-refundable or exchangeable unless a show is postponed or cancelled. In these instances you can return your tickets to your point of purchase for a face value refund.

Grainger Town Car Park is open until 12 midnight – parking is free after 7pm every day. There is free on-street parking on Westgate Road, Waterloo Street & near the Discovery Museum after 6:30pm.

Box o ce: open Mon – Fri 10am – 3:30pm or until show start if there’s a performance that evening & at least an hour and a half before weekend performances

Tickets subject to booking fee & charges apply when booking online or over the phone via Eventim. No fees for booking at box o ce in person. Calls to the booking hotline will cost 7p per minute plus your telephone company’s access charge.

This theatre is owned by the Tyne Theatre and Opera House Preservation Trust (Registered Charity No. 1120746) and operated by Tyne Theatre and Opera House Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Trust.
