stay weird Words&Photos: Dowdy
There is real loud rock n’ roll music playing in the backyard, stories are being told, everyone is saying what is on their minds. Somebody is elaborating on a “fake person” they met earlier, but who’s really fake. As long as we’re living, lies can be told just as easily as they can be justified. So don’t be scared to be yourself, even if your ideas are out of realm. If everyone said what they thought, things could get weird, don’t be scared to get weird. Stay weird because chances are someone else is on the same page as you and I, enjoy.

Age, Accupation & Birth? 23, Plumber brother, Descanso, CA. 3 Life Goals? Get laid, Mega Ramp, Mash. What do you got? I got a 12 gauge winchester remington and a Ford F150 with a busted out window. Favorite moment you’ve had in life so far? When I met the Hype Train.

Chris Gregson He
is from another planet, another dimension.. somewhere that doesn’t allow music on low or anything but heavy music for that matter. I have a feeling there is a lot of lava on Gregson’s home planet. Probably a good amount of wild vegetables too, yeah lava and vegetables. He’s much like a wild growing veggie himself, just planting his roots deep and going as far as the sun will let him grow (his nickname is Sunshine after all) He’s no amateur to the drift, but if there’s no wind he might disappear. Chances are the only thing he has on him is his skateboard, So if you see him popping through your local dirt patch give him some coals for the train and blast OFF!!!!

Age, Hometown & Planet? 18. Medford. Planet of the apes. When did you start skateboarding? When I was a little kid I rode around but didn’t really start til 9 years. Best part about living in Oregon? We have the best skateparks ever and they are all so close to each other. Best skate trip you’ve been on? Any trip with a van full of homies to many good trips to narrow it down. First international skate trip? Malmo, Sweden. That is the best place I’ve ever been. Such fun stuff to skate and the people there are so rad. How was San Diego? Dude San Diego was so sick! I’ve never been down south past Santa Cruz til that trip. About 2 months staying there. Skate, party, beach sun, First time skating ditches, so stoked on the pools out there, WSVT is the funnest DIY I’ve ever skated. California has a shit ton of skateboarders and meeting a bunch of different groups of people who are motivated to skate all the time made it so awesome. What’s Vagrant all about? We each just try and be pretty much be the coolest dude at the skatepark, in it for the money, tottaly trying to take the fun out of skateboarding..ha! We are all skate rats. skating whatever, not caring, just going, hungry to skate. We all skate to gather and hype each other up. We just wanna keep it more raw then all that corporate shit and keep skateboarding the way it should be. Shout out to the players? Yeah thanks Typical Culture, Mike at vagrant, Jacks board house, Brice Niebuhr, The Hype Train, D Rice, Possum, Anybody who ever let me sleep at your house you rule, Greg heal up fast and get to Oregon, everybody else you know who you are..

1. How long does it take you to grow a beard? It takes me about a week. I’ve been shaving since I was 13, so it’ll creep up on me before I even realized it. Then I get too lazy to shave it off that I end up looking like a caveman and scaring small children. I’ve learned to live with it. 2. First handrail you skated? I front boarded this 4 stair rail in the quad at point loma high when I was 10, then I took it to the 6 stair there in the same day. Those are still two of the biggest rails I’ve ever skated. I’m terrible with rails. 3. Last place you skated? The Tum-Yeto ramp, with all the Route 44 dudes. it was so fun, one of the best sessions I’ve had in a while. Everyone killed it, it was nuts!

DREW DEZORT qUICK THREE First rail you grinded? The first rail I grinded was a 5 stair at Redinger Elementary in Akron Ohio. I got my first noseslide on it that same day too. I was stoked that day! Raddest skater to come out of Ohio? The raddest skater to come out of Ohio through my eyes has to be Chad Knight. He is an all terrain killer and has a great attitude towards skating and life in general. I’m backing him. Current goals and projects? Right now my goal is to finish my part in the new Blood Wizard video. The video should be done by late summer of early fall. Besides that I gotta get my car to pass smog but that is an unfortunate project I have to complete.

In regards to the rumor of Channel St getting bulldozed it’s not true. However starting May 2013 the skatepark will be closed for a year due to construction on the freeway above the park. It’s currently getting shredded everyday by locals like Robbie Russo, Ronnie Sandoval, Riley Stevens, and more. The third chapter of the skatepark (Featured to the right) is now completely done. So while the time remains I suggest you and the crew head to Channel St and get some. Show the locals love and always pay the toll. - Zack Dowdy

We all go soft. It happens. Sometimes you’ve got to take a break from the steady stream of face melters coming through your speakers and listen to some oddball tunes. We all have weird hidden gems on our ipods that got used in a video or a web clip and a lot of the time those songs are some seriously obscure shit. You hear a song, you immediately start scouring the internet for info, find it and then spend the rest of the week listening to it in the car by yourself because it’s soft...damn! Let’s bring those tunes to the forefront and get them back out into the universe. I put this collection of cuts together in hopes that they will one day end up in a web edit or video part and for the guy sitting in his car by himself geeking out on the harmonies of his favorite European female vocal group. Dig it. Text By: Christian Ottibre
Glen Campbell – Guess I’m Dumb Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys wrote this song and gave it to Mr. Campbell to record. Blows “Rhinestone Cowboy” right out of the water.
Peter Sully And Orchard – Evil Woman Psych group from the 60s with killer production and spot-on drums.
Larry Tamblyn – Destiny Solo recording from the keyboard player of The Standells. Really nice vocals.

Macdonald & Giles – Flight Of The Ibis Two members of King Crimson first album, “In The Court Of The Crimson King”. From 21st Century Schizoid Man to incredibly well produced string arrangements and soft prog love songs. Highly recommended album.
The Kossoy Sisters – Bowling Green Foot stompin bluegrass by two twin sisters from the late ‘50s. Excellent harmonies.
Taj Mahal – Corinna Heavy soul from one of the greats. Clean production and a killer voice. Put it on a mixtape for your chick, she’ll love it.
Scott Walker – The Old Man’s Back Again Solo work from one of the brothers from the 60s pop group The Walker Brothers. Wes Anderson used one of his songs in The Life Aquatic. This song has an amazing lounge-groove swagger with wellplaced string arrangements.

It’s safe to say that almost every person who skates has, at one point or another, wanted to build a ramp in their backyard. Kevin Kowalski took this idea to a new level. Being only partially finished, the bowl in Kowalski’s backyard is already getting plenty of use. These photos were shot in the first stages of the bowl, so we can only imagine what will happen once the pool block is laid down and the snake run is cemented in. ay By: Jordan Conw Photos & Words Frontside Judo 48
