Welcome to Brityrex International’10 Paul Farrant rityrex International returns to Manchester with an exhibition that reflects the growing confidence of the UK tyre and equipment market. Since the last Brityrex in 2007 our venue has been re-branded as Manchester Central and invested around £30 million to improve its facilities, which we hope will make your visit more enjoyable and productive. But it’s what happens inside the exhibition halls that matters most. In that respect Brityrex is a larger show than last time, with 20% more exhibitors from the UK and around the world, all eager to talk business and establish trading relationships. Brityrex is fundamentally a tyre event but it also mirrors the expansion and diversification of the sector. This is amply demonstrated by the many tyreshop and workbay equipment, accessory, tool and services suppliers exhibiting at the show. The tyre business is a truly global enterprise and Brityrex reflects this by attracting exhibitors and visitors from dozens of countries. Many are exciting new suppliers seeking to establish a pre-

sence in the UK, while others are familiar names returning to meet established contacts and distributors. During the three days of this exhibition business deals worth millions of pounds, euros and dollars will be signed and agreed. Important relationships will be established that may last for years. In our view, there simply is no substitute for meeting people face-to-face in a dedicated business environment. We are grateful for the support of our exhibitors, visitors and sponsors. Tyre Education for Schools (TEFORS) is a high quality teaching programme supplied through sponsorship to schools. It has been developed by Scrap Tyre Exchange and was launched in the North East of England and is now extending the programme nationally with the recent endorsement of the Tyre Industry Federation. The TEFORS programme is a half day teaching resource aimed at 10 to 11 year olds which includes informati-

on relating to tyre manufacturing, tyre safety and tyre recycling. These topics are linked to the science, maths, English and citizenship curricula included in the National Curriculum. The programme has been designed by education specialists and has been extensively tested with teachers and in the classroom and is a unique marketing opportunity for all in the tyre trade.
