ClubScene Despite their busy work schedules and studies, the HUBC players have been able to give their best during training. National Team player K Shanmugadas feels that there is healthy competition among the HUBC players as the younger players are working hard and trying to replace the senior players, thus keeping the senior players on their toes. The older players are also sharing their playing experiences with the younger ones. The training grounds of HUBC is located at New Phoenix Park near the Novena MRT station. The players gather at the air-conditioned indoor court twice a week for two hours per session. There, the players are put through their paces by the two coaches.

Excellence In Basketball The Singapore Cup 2005 Finals was a muchanticipated match up between HUBC and hot favourites LJE Fastbreakers. HUBC turned in a great offensive effort by scoring 94 points while holding the Fastbreakers to 71. The players from HUBC were focused and purposeful in their play throughout the game while the Fastbreakers were found to be wanting in organisation. HUBC Captain Koh Meng Koon gave credit to the HUBC players for being able to get the important points when it mattered. He felt that the collective effort of the HUBC team is the reason why HUBC is now the top local basketball club in Singapore. 2004 and 2005 were important years for HUBC. Besides participating in the NBL and the Singapore Cup, HUBC had a training tour to Malaysia in 2004 where they played against the Malaysian national team. Although they lost twice to their professional opponents, it was an enriching tour for the team. At the end of 2004, HUBC had organised a basketball camp for young basketball enthusiasts in Singapore. Besides teaching the young ethusiasts the fundamentals of basketball, the purpose of the camp was also to discover young talent and bring them into the HUBC fold. In 2005, HUBC rewarded its players and coaches with a goodwill trip to Shanghai for their excellent performance in the NBL. Despite these achievements, HUBC will continue to strive for excellence at the club level and actively promote the basketball game. 54 draw&dish Jan’06
