As a member of The Design Activism Research Hub (DARH) at London College of Communication, I co-organised a hands-on workshop on the theme of DIY graphics. The event focused on collages, posters and typographic layouts with simple tools and techniques on the working theme of “Love and Hate”. The workshop took place in the Design Museum in London in June 2016 as part of #PunkLondon and offered the opportunity to explore the fundamental principles of punk art and design and the longstanding heritage of home-made, do-it-yourself visual communication. “Hands on Punk – A Punk Poster” features the outcomes of this workshop.
Note: The gig took place two days after the EU referendum vote in the UK. For this reason, most of the participants appropriately channeled their anger toward the politiciansthat dominated the hate debate on the media over the preceding months.
