Why Study Community Engagement at the University of Alberta?
Prospective Participants in Community Engagement Studies
Engaging with stakeholders, community members or special interest groups is an integral part of many jobs. Whether you work in government, industry or the non-profit sector, learning how to foster and effectively manage engagement activities may be essential to your career and your organization’s success.
The following three programs of study will benefit those working or interested in working in public, private or non-profit sectors in areas such as: •

Community engagement is the term used to describe how various agencies and community groups share information, contribute expertise, and work collaboratively toward mutually beneficial outcomes. But effective community engagement does not just happen. What are community engagement best practices? What tools can be used to facilitate effective engagement? How do we monitor and evaluate engagement?

The Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta is one of the first post-secondary institutions in Canada to offer a suite of programs on community engagement. These programs give participants the chance to learn the basic principles of engagement, and to develop the skills needed to succeed in this emerging field.
