Your Guide to Living in the Costume Store Everything you need to know about living here is available online. The guide to living is a fully searchable website where you can find out anything, from recycling to rent payment. There are also live travel maps to each College site so that you can plan your journey, as well as links to your tenancy agreement, advice on cleaning and a calendar of Social Programme events.

Internet

Connect your computer to the WiFi network “Ask4” and a portal will pop up. Create an account and you’re ready to go. To add additional devices, just follow the same process.

Supermarkets Tesco Express is on the corner of Victoria Road, North Acton to the left of the building as you exit the site from the main entrance. Asda is at 2 -20 Western Road, Park Royal, NW10 7LW and you can get a bus directly from outside The Costume Store or walk. Banks Natwest is located across the road from The Costume Store just on the right hand side of the road if you exit from the main entrance. The nearest other banks can be located in Ealing Broadway (10 minutes by tube Westbound), or Shepherds Bush (10 minutes by tube Eastbound). Hospitals The local hospital is Central Middlesex Hospital, Acton Ln, London, NW10 7NS The local Doctors surgery is 41 -43 Cloister Road, Acton, W3 0DF and will accept residents from The Costume Store, you will be able to find a registration form in your welcome packs.

The Social Programme

The Social Programme team are there to make sure that you get the most out of your time here in halls. They organise weekly events like movie nights, yoga and outings to galleries, shows and nightspots. Your reps will introduce themselves over the next few days, get to know them and check around the halls for details of upcoming events.

Transport

Bicycle Cycling in London is very popular as a free alternative to public transport. It is vital that you are safe and confident on the roads, and a good lock is advisable. Secure bike storage is available in the hall. Barclays Bikes Barclays (known as ‘Boris’) bikes are available for anybody to use but require a debit or credit card to release a bike. You can also buy an annual pass at www.TFL.gov.uk.

Tube The tube runs from around 6AM-0:15AM every day. We are on the Central line (the red one). Bus We have a bus stop opposite the entrance (routes 260 & 266 to Shepherds Bush). Taxi WestOne Cars (08448 888 888) provide a safe, reliable service. TFL.gov.uk We recommend TFL’s website for travel planning in London.

Don’t forget to get your student Oyster card as soon as you are enrolled. Go to www.tfl.gov.uk to apply.


Money

Rent & charges

You may find yourself experiencing financial difficulties during your studies. Student Advisers can help identify sources of funding and offer guidance on student finance and managing your money.

If you are responsible for damage to your room or the building in general you will be charged for repairs or cleaning costs. A full list of charges is available in the Guide to Living.

Bank Accounts

Most banks will require your passport, a copy of your tenancy agreement (available by logging into your accommodation account). Some banks will also require a letter from your College.

Mental Health

If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting on you and your studies, talk to a University Counsellor. Mental Health Advisers are also available if you have are mental health issue, or you are concerned about your health and well-being.

Laundry

Report any problems with plumbing, lights, breakages etc. to the reception desk or online through the portal which appears when you log on to the Internet.

To get a laundry card, you need to purchase a card with a £5 note in the laundry. You can top up your credit at www.circuit.co.uk Wash: £2.50 Dry: £2.50
