Your Guide to Living in Glassyard Building Everything you need to know about living here is available online. The guide to living is a fully searchable website where you can find out about anything, from recycling to rent payment. There are also live travel maps to each College site so that you can plan your journey, as well as links to your tenancy agreement, advice on cleaning and a calendar of Social Programme events.

Internet

Connect your computer to the WiFi network “Ask4” or and a portal will pop up in your browser. Create an account and you’re ready to go. To add additional devices, just follow the same process.

Supermarkets -There are several small supermarkets in the area with a sizeable Costcutters by Stockwell station. Our nearest large supermarket is Sainsbury’s on Clapham High Street (see number 12 on the map opposite). Banks -Natwest, which has the closest ATM, is located beside Stockwell station, and there is a Halifax on Brixton Road. Medical -The local hospital is Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill, London, SE5 9RS (020 3299 9000). -The nearest doctor’s surgery is Stockwell Group Practice, 107 Stockwell Road, London, SW9 9TJ. To make an appointment call 020 7274 3223, or 020 8693 9066 out of hours. Art Supplies -Kingsheild Arts & Stationers are at 387 Brixton Road, and the College shops at Chelsea and LCC are also well stocked and affordable. Tube Lines -Stockwell Underground station is 6 minutes walk away and serviced by both the Victoria and Northern lines (light blue and black lines).

The Social Programme The Social Programme team are there to make sure that you get the most out of your time here in halls. They organise weekly events like movie nights, yoga and outings to galleries, shows and nightspots. Your reps will introduce themselves over the next few days, get to know them and check around the halls for details of upcoming events.

Transport

Bicycle Cycling in London is very popular as a free alternative to public transport. There are two covered lockable bike shelters at Glassyard Building, but a good lock is advisable elsewehere. Safety advice is available at www.TFL.gov.uk. Barclays Bikes Barclays (known as ‘Boris’) bikes are available for anybody to use but require a debit or credit card to release a bike. The closest dock is at Oval station, 10 minutes away.

Tube The tube runs from around 6AM-0:15AM every day. Bus We have bus stops 50 meters away on Stockwell Road. After midnight you will need to use night bus routes. Taxi WestOne Cars (08448 888 888) provide a safe, reliable taxi service. TFL.gov.uk We recommend TFL’s website for travel planning in London.

Don’t forget to get your student Oyster card as soon as you are enrolled. Go to www.tfl.gov.uk to apply.


Money

Rent & charges

You may find yourself experiencing financial difficulties during your studies. Student Advisers can help identify sources of funding and offer guidance on student finance and managing your money.

If you are responsible for damage to your room or the building in general you will be charged for repairs or cleaning costs. A full list of charges is available in the Guide to Living.

Bank Accounts

Most banks will require your passport, a copy of your tenancy agreement (available by logging into your accommodation account). Some banks will also require a letter from your College.

Studying & Mental Health

If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting on you and your studies, talk to a University Counsellor. Mental Health Advisers are also available if you have a mental health issue, or you are concerned about your health and well-being.

Maintenance

Laundry

Report any problems with plumbing, lighting, breakages etc. online through the portal which appears when you log on to the internet or at the reception desk.

You will be kept up-to-date with your request via email each time a staff or contractor attends.

We have a coin operated laundry on the ground floor - please provide your own detergent. Check your for available machines at www.laundryview.com Wash: ÂŁ2.60 Dry: ÂŁ1.10

Tenancy regulations

Your tenancy agreement (your contract) is available by logging into your account via arts.ac.uk/housing. A copy of the terms is posted on the guide to living.

Security

Our reception is staffed 9AM-6:30PM, and the facilities team are here 24/7 should you have any problems. If there is nobody in the office just call the site mobile. Feel free to come and talk to us any time, we are here for you.

It is essential that you fill out your inventory within 24 hours of arrival to avoid charges for damaged or missing items at the end of your tenancy.
