The UAlbany community recognizes that we live and work on the homelands of sovereign Indigenous nations with rich histories and cultures that continue today – both within NewYork and beyond.
As an institution devoted to teaching, scholarship, and service, we strive to understand and learn from our history and to affirm Indigenous rights and issues. To this end, we are committed to cultivating reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities focused on equity, social justice, and sustainability – and dismantling legacies of colonization.

The Performers
Violinist Isabel Ong is an avid chamber musician with a passion for contemporary music. She has served as a Fellow at the Foulger International Music Festival in Kean University, as well as at the Cortona Sessions in Italy, where she premiered pieces by many of today's upcoming contemporary composers. In addition to serving as a member of the New Juilliard Ensemble led by Joel Sachs at the Juilliard School, she has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, National Sawdust, and MOMA and at the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra in Switzerland. A strong advocate for using the power of music to serve a greater humanitarian purpose, Isabel performed at ASAP’s (Advocates for Southeast Asians and the Persecuted) fifteenth anniversary celebration honoring their non-profit service of spreading higher education and implementing healthier and cleaner living conditions for the people of Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. She has performed on the Taiwan Indigenous Television Channel 16, and at Aletheia University of Tamsui, Taiwan to perform in their 130th anniversary concert.
Isabel was an inaugural member of the Spark Collective, an ensemble designed to perform new works by current compositional students at the University of South Carolina. An equally dedicated teacher, Isabel is on faculty at SUNY Fredonia, Mercyhurst University, and is a teaching artist at the Buffalo-based non-profit organization, Buffalo String Works. She also spends her summers on faculty at Point CounterPoint in Vermont. She holds degrees from Juilliard and University of South Carolina (BM, MM, and DMA).
David Rose has served as a titled player of numerous orchestras, including Associate Principal of the Vancouver Symphony, Principal Viola of the KitchenerWaterloo Symphony, and Acting Assistant Principal of the San Francisco Symphony. Mr. Rose is currently the principal violist of the G27 chamber orchestra in Toronto. Also active as a baroque performer, he was a member of the Pacific Baroque orchestra, and has toured and recorded with Toronto's Tafelmusik. Mr. Rose studied viola at the University of British Columbia, and also Indiana University (Bloomington).
His main teachers included Gerald Stanick, Atar Arad and Stanley Ritchie. He has served as head of strings at Fredonia, and teaches in the summer at the Rocky Ridge Young Artists Seminar in the Colorado Rockies, as well as the Fredonia Summer String Festival.
Acclaimed as a "terrific cello soloist" and as having a "big, generous tone," American cellist Natasha Farny performs as a soloist and chamber musician. She has recorded three solo CDs, “French Music for Cello and Piano,” on the Centaur label, “Women’s Voices,” and "From the Shadows." Recent concerts include Arizona's Del E. Webb Performing Arts Center, NYC's Merkin Hall, and Colorado's Strings Music Festival. She premiered Avner Dorman's new Double Con-certo for Cello, Piano, and Orchestra last year. Upcoming concerts in 2024 include appearances at Florida State Uni-versity, Saugerties ProMusica, and a concerto performance with JoAnn Falletta at the Sewanee Music Center. Ms. Farny made her concerto debut at age 17 with the Boston
Symphony Orchestra and studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and Yale College. After completing higher degrees at the Eastman School of Music and at the Juilliard School, she received a fellowship for study in Leipzig, Germany. While at Juilliard, Ms. Farny performed Dutilleux’s Tout un Monde Lointain with conductor Robert Spano.
Recent research interests entail music by women for cello. Ms. Farny published an article and has presented her work on female composers nationally and internationally. Ms. Farny is Professor of Cello at the School of Music at the State University of New York in Fredonia and in the summer, teaches at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and the Fredonia String Camp.
