Dear Alumni and Friends: Each year we have the opportunity to express our thanks to you at the Annual Donors Appreciation Banquet. The majority of you who assist us in providing a first class education to our students never attend the banquet. We have never met most of you and have never spoken to you by telephone. Yet, you give— most of you repeatedly—and for this we are extremely grateful. Please know that though you are not present, you are thought of and very much appreciated! On the other hand, there are those of you who come to the banquet, visit the campus periodically, and participate in various activities. We have the opportunity to meet and talk with you and express our appreciation face-toface. You are among the individuals we hold dear. On a personal level, I extend a hearty thank you to all of you—the hundreds of you that I know and have had an opportunity to teach, mentor, or meet and the hundreds of you I have yet to meet. I look forward to the occasion when I may get to dialogue with each of you who give so generously to the most important people at UAPB—our students. Thank you for caring! Sincerely,

Lawrence A. Davis, Jr. CHANCELLOR

Dear Alumni, Friends, and Supporters: You have repeatedly given me cause for pride over the past several years. Since 2000, I have had the awesome privilege to be in a leadership position with the UAPB Foundation Fund Board. As Chairman of this group of remarkable individuals, I stand on the shoulders of those who preceded me. The giants who paved the way for me, made it possible for me to have vision and the resources needed to carry our fund raising in new directions and to higher levels. As the Foundation Fund Board worked with me to craft strategies that would provide much needed monetary support to the university, you joined forces with us and as a result our initiatives came to have overwhelming success—funding of the University’s Highest Priorities at unprecedented levels; off-setting the financial shortfall in athletics in record time; establishing the Dorothy Magett Fiddmont New Millennium Leaders Scholarship Fund (now reaching over $1,000,000 with the pledge of federal funds); and the Lifeline Endowed Fund for which you show great enthusiasm. You often hear our plea for support; but also know there is a time to celebrate the successes that you have brought to fruition. This is that time. Your continuous support over the years for UAPB has made my task as Chairman of the UAPB Foundation Fund Board a very rewarding experience, and for that I want to thank you. Sincerely,

Larry Cooper Chairman UAPB Foundation Fund Board

Dear Donors, THANK YOU!! You are the reason we graduate some of the nation’s leading scientist, educators, lawyers, doctors and other professionals. With looming recessionary conditions ever before us, your financial contribution assists us in addressing needs that cannot be managed solely with public funds. Without you, our fiscal void would be insurmountable. It is gratifying to know that you understand the financial plight many of our students face and you are forthcoming with monies for scholarships and awards. You realize that education goes beyond the classroom and that our students benefit from field trips, conferences, and professional gatherings and you provided the needed funds to get them beyond the confines of the classroom. And you are aware that extracurricular activities play a key role in developing the total person, so you give to support the band, choir, and other optional activities. We succeed in educating individuals who will make us all proud because you care enough to give! Sincerely,

Margaret Martin-Hall Director

FORWARD

Fundraising initiatives at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff address institutional funding needs with an emphasis on three major areas (unrestricted funds, scholarships, and athletics) that significantly impact the ability of UAPB to deliver educational excellence. The results of our fundraising efforts are reported herein.

University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff

ANNUAL GIVING DRIVE

Annual contributions for the period July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011, totaled $792,664.52. Our donors designated their gifts consistent with their interests and chose a variety of ways to give support. Many donors gave unrestricted gifts so that unanticipated student needs could be met. As a result, the Annual Giving Drive consisted of several successful initiatives. Though all specific initiatives that gave a positive impetus to our fundraising efforts are too numerous to mention here, special note is made of a few that have a farreaching and long term impact:

Lifeline Endowed Fund

The Lifeline Endowed Fund was established to provide students in dire need of financial assistance the opportunity to attend college at UAPB. The goal is to raise $500,000 that will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education/HBCU (Title III) Initiatives. As of June 30, 2011, the Lifeline Endowed Fund had reached over $215,000.

Dorothy Magett Fiddmont New Millennium Leaders

The Fiddmont Leaders initiative remains a strong impetus for scholarship support of our students. All donations to the fund from October 1, 2007 – September 30, 2012, will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education/HBCU (Title III) Initiatives. (Please note that donors do not qualify for higher giving level because of the match made by the Title III funds and their employers’ matching gifts). As of June 30, 2011, the fund had grown to $925,947.68. The following are levels of commitment individuals and groups may choose to support: Individual Classes & Alumni Chapters Entry Level $2,000 $10,000 Bronze Support Level $3,000 $20,000 Silver Support Level $4,000 $30,000 Gold Support Level $5,000 $40,000 Platinum Support Level $6,000 $50,000

Phonathon 2010

The Annual Phonathon, now in its 9th year, gives our students the opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with alumni and friends. Each year 12-15 students spend approximately 6-12 weeks on the telephone discussing current and past events at UAPB with alumni and friends and getting alumni and friends’ perspectives and memories of UAPB. The outcomes are 1) positive exchange for callers and for those to whom they speak and 2) much needed financial support for UAPB’s students. The 2011 Annual Phonathon produced nearly $110,000 in pledges (within a 20 day calling period) from approximately 625 alumni, employees, friends and supporters— an additional 400 indicated they would consider giving if sent a pledge card, and 179 new donors /pledges of which 52 are young alum (graduating 2000-2010). We depend upon your generosity to provide the best education possible for tomorrow’s leaders, technology gurus, scientists, educators, doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, business executives, and all others that we educate to the capacity of being productive citizens. Whether you chose to give to a particular cause, program, or activity or designated your gift as unrestricted, you made a positive difference and lifelong impact in the future of our students—and in your future. Annual Donors Report

YOUR GENEROSITY IN ACTION In 2010 - 2011 your gifts accomplished much at UAPB.

David Holts, professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, discusses human physiology to on looking students.

Your donations were used directly and indirectly to benefit our students: • Nearly $400,000 was made available to students in the form of loans, awards, and scholarships as a result of donations from you; • Hundreds of students were able to participate in extracurricular activities and attend career development activities on and off campus; • Our debate team achieved a sixth place ranking overall; • We were able to continue our upgrade of dormitories to assure the living environment promoted academic success; and • Overall, UAPB’s academic programs, extracurricular offerings and physical plant continued to improve. You assured that our students had the best environment possible to succeed academically!

PRIORITY GIVING All donors are important to the advancement of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). Donors who give to one of the three top priority areas (Unrestricted, General Scholarships, and Lifeline Endowed Fund) add greater strength to their gift. Of the priority areas noted, unrestricted dollars give the university the greatest flexibility to address important areas of need – those that directly impact the students we educate. On the following pages are the names of individuals who have supported the plea for donations to the areas of unrestricted, general scholarships, and Lifeline Endowed Fund. Gifts were received between July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011.

CORPORATE AND FOUNDATION MATCHING GIFT PROGRAM The University continues to be grateful for the support of its corporate partners. The companies and corporate foundations listed on this page are those that have provided contributions to the University and its Foundation through their matching gift program. The University urges its alumni and friends to investigate the matching gift program that may be offered through their companies. Some companies offer programs, which will match one-for-one, two-for-one, or three-for-one. The program may even extend to the employee’s spouse. This is an excellent way to multiply gift dollars and have a greater impact on academic programs. To take advantage of a company’s matching gift policy an employee may obtain a form from their company’s corporate giving office and send it in along with their gift.
