CIRCUMSTANCE Kitty Rogers

CIRCUMSTANCE by Kitty Rogers

A year passed like the train in your roomRattling the walls that used to be unbreakable, melting the pennies I placed on its tracks. Our paths twisted like roots as we ran away from the stars, afraid of the parallels our two worlds were spinning. I close my eyes and remember you backwards, tracing your shape with inquisitive fingers. Like shadows on the ceiling we shiver above the flame, crisp wick falls like dust as the breath of time swirls through its hourglass. Lifted up by your guitar strings and a gamble taken in the dark, like a puppetI fall weak behind my front. Drawn to each other like the pastels in your framea vintage dream set aside and waiting with psychic patience. Out the window green blur molds itself back into trees, as the wheels slow to a stop and we meet in the middle. I reach out to shake your hand but instead you kiss the freckle on my palm.

Only Time Delivers by Sean Redenbaugh

When all the days connect to one And somber skies conceal the sun Sleep is mixed with wasted time And pain pours out in tonic rhyme

When darkness fills your broken heart And sadness tears your life apart The shortest moments feel so long And wounds live on in scornful song

So listen to your heart's content And write until your pen is spent But only sleep will calm the noise And only time delivers poise
