MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Congratulations to the class of 2014-2015. Your hard work, dedication, and commitment have resulted in this landmark moment in time for you: graduation from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia. This is a time of significant change within the health care system and of great opportunity for pharmacists, and here at UBC we are playing our part in developing the profession. Most importantly, we have helped you to prepare for an exciting and rewarding future in pharmacy. As UBC Pharm Sci alumni, you are extremely well equipped for a variety of career opportunities, which could be in pharmacy practice, research or teaching, or in a host of other disciplines. Many of you will go on to influence the evolution of policy and practice in British Columbia and beyond. The knowledge and skills you have acquired during your time with us will directly benefit your patients and create a real and lasting impact on society as a whole. Today’s reception is in honour of you, and while it marks the end of your journey with us as students it signifies your new journey with us as partners in one of the most respected professions in the world. It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the graduating class of 2014-2015. You are joining a remarkable profession where you will stand alongside your peers to use your skills, knowledge, and expertise as true medication experts to enhance patient health outcomes. You pursued your education in this field with great passion and commitment, and I know that you will continue to learn and grow throughout your career. Graduation is not the end of the road, but simply a signpost along the way. Lifelong learning is a cornerstone of our profession, as our practice must meet the demands of a constantly changing society. I am confident that your experience at UBC has prepared you to face any changes or challenges that come your way. I am proud to see many innovative initiatives being spearheaded by UBC Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty and alumni. The College’s role is to ensure that public confidence in pharmacy is upheld first and foremost; that as a profession, we are accountable to patients and each other.
