TIME Planning and hard work pays off but make sure that you don’t leave it until the last minute. Using your time effectively makes the process less difficult.
PRESSURISE A POTENTIAL SPONSOR Don’t worry if they say no. Not every person is going to be in a position to give. Even if someone can’t donate, at least you have raised awareness about your event and the cause.
USP What’s your Unique Selling Point for fundraising? Coming up with a creative idea or utilising your unique talent can give you that fundraising edge.
ASK TWICE If someone can’t or chooses not to give, don’t ask them again. Respect their decision. FORGET TO PLAN Decide as early as possible on how you’re going to run the event or raise sponsorship money.
CHECK IN If you have an idea, fill in your Fundraising Pack with as much detail as possible. If anything extra needs to be considered, for example any events which involve food, raffling or potential risks, must be authorised with the Union and/or the appropriate person.

online fundraising (crowdfunding) Crowdfunding is a method of raising money from the public in order to finance a project. Crowdfunding makes use of the easy accessibility of vast networks of people through social media and crowdfunding websites. People can donate from anywhere in the world and you can personalise your page, telling everyone about what you are fundraising for. Here is a link to a popular and legitimate crowdfunding source; www.kickstarter.com

PLANNING YOUR EVENT
PLAN IN ADVANCE Once you have decided on your fundraising event, whether you are working as a group or by yourself, put together an action plan.
MARKETING MATERIAL If you are planning to produce any printed information, please send us a final copy of your material for approval before you print.
Work out how long it will take you to organise the event. Create a timeline of when things should be completed, who to contact, who is responsible for what and how much you hope to raise.
Our logo may also be added to this material, depending on the nature of our partnership. MAKE A LIST As well as filling in the Fundraising Pack which is returned to the Union, also create a list for yourself and your group. Include all the things that you need to organise and tick them off as you go.
WORK OUT A BUDGET Costs can include anything from postage and printing to equipment hire. To save costs, it is a good idea to utilise your contacts or contact local businesses to donate items/service. Estimate the total income that you think your event will generate, and then you’ll be able to see if the profit justifies the time and effort.

How much are you hoping to raise?
•

•
How will you publicise your event?

KEEPING IT LEGAL RAFFLES & LOTTERIES A raffles is a form of a lottery, and all lotteries are regulated by the Gambling Commission. While you need a license to run most lotteries, some are exempt, for example; an ‘incidental, non-commercial lottery’.

PRIVATE LOTTERY When raffle tickets are sold to people in the same locations, advertising may only be carried on the premises where the tickets are being sold. Tickets must be the same price, state the price, the name and address of the promoter.
**Alcohol CAN NOT be offered as a prize on our premises**
You can find more details at: www.gamblingcommision. gov.uk
