Letter From The Editor Grace and Peace be unto you UNITED, I pray everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. I thank God for the United States of America; thanks to the sacrifices of those who came before us, the land is free and God is able to use us to freely spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Our 2015 National Holy Convocation kicks off in just a few moments. Step into the sanctuary with the assurance that you are on the mind of God, and there is an Encounter set for you this week in Atlanta, GA. As we pray, as we worship, as we sacrifice, change comes, suddenly. We solicit the prayers of those unable to join us in Atlanta this year. God is doing a new thing in this hour, and we know that there is power in prayer. Near or far, when one is blessed, we are all blessed! Let’s lift up the body of UNITED before the Lord this week as we witness His wonder working power! This #UNITEDEncounter has been set for YOU, and the gates of hell shall not prevail. This month, Pastor Terry Hill speaks from the heart about Our Holy Convocation. Be encouraged UNITED, and above all, continue to stand. Be blessed as you enjoy the highlights of what is going on around the world of UNITED! In His Service, Annette Parkins Editor www.unitedcovenantchurches.org
Our Holy Convocation by Pastor Terry Hill, …
It’s that time again! The family is coming together. From near and far, we will assemble in Atlanta, Georgia for our 26th Annual Holy Convocation. For just a few days we are reminded that we are a part of something bigger than what we see every day in our local churches. Charter buses, airplane tickets, rental cars and more will be employed to bring us together. Vacation days are taken, hotel rooms are shared, savings are tapped and clothes get dry cleaned. Please don’t forget your uniforms! But what is it all for? Have we forgotten the importance, yes even the necessity of our gathering? To be clear, there is definitely more to our gathering than seeing the sites, shopping and reconnecting with friends. In Exodus chapter 12 and in Leviticus chapter 23, we are instructed to gather for a holy convocation. This solemn gathering is the Lord’s call to us to assemble ourselves as one people/nation. The first thing that is important to remember is that these festivals much like our weekly Sabbaths are Holy unto the Lord. They belong to Him! This is the time we go to meet with God. Different from our weekly gatherings, these convocations are representative of the seven larger festivals where our gatherings serve an even more sacred purpose.
Holy Convocations are to be a calling together of God’s people for God’s purposes. Holy Convocation is not simply another revival or conference but a sacred assembly mandated by God in order to ensure the spiritual life and health of believers is maintained. In today's language, a primary purpose of the assembly is to bring God's people together, not just for fellowship, but also for instruction and most importantly, to honor and worship God Himself. These holy times, then, contain a vitally important corporate aspect, producing unity in purpose, doctrine, and relationships within the Body of Christ.
When we leave the convocation experience, we are able to then carry home that same anointing and giftings to our local churches. For me personally, I look forward every year for our annual gathering. It is needed for my spiritual uplift and emotional renewal. When I return to my faith family, The Citadel Church of Jacksonville, things always go to another level. I am preparing myself now for an amazing encounter. You should be too. As our Presiding Bishop is known to say, “this is our Jerusalem!” Let’s get ready!
