Change Your Thinking & Change Your Life

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praise worthy-think about such things.” Philippians 3:8 (NIV) At the base of every human’s brain stem is a filter called the “reticular activating system.” God has put this filter in our minds so that we would have the ability to minimize the amount of information that reaches our consciousness. However, it has been theorized that three things automatically find their way past the reticular activating system: things that we value, things that are unique, and things that threaten us. Of these three things that filter through this system, one is extremely important because it shapes who we are - the things that we value. If you want to see a dramatic change in your life, change the things that you value, and those will be the things that you allow into your mind and into your heart.


If you spent 2013, thinking that your life, your ministry, your marriage, or your relationship with God would never amount to anything; turn those thoughts around, in 2014, and place a greater value on them, and begin to think: “My life will be great, my ministry will be great, my marriage will be great, my relationship with God will be great.� Watch your life begin to change. Your life will begin to change because once you begin to value and think about things that are excellent and praise-worthy, you’ll begin to take the necessary steps to seek these things. Satan wants to control your thinking because he knows that once he controls your thinking, he controls the things that you value and he can control your life. You can defeat and thwart his plans by deciding to value and think on things that are true, things that are noble, things that are right, things that are pure, things that are lovely, things that are admirable, things that are excellent, and things that are praise worthy-think about such things and change your life.

Building Communities at The Citadel Church The Citadel Church showed their love for Jesus by serving others at the Clara White Mission. Led by Lady Kim Hill the team made sure nearly 400 people received meals. Even the youth of The Citadel got involved. Pastor Terry Hill said "We are committed to building our community and the lives of the people in it. We had more volunteers than we needed. I guarantee there is more to come.

Tabernacle of Praise Cathedral’s Word of God Drama Ministry is holding open auditions for its upcoming play premiering in March for the 2014 Women’s Conference, about a mother’s fight to save her child. Looking for female actors: Age range 18 - 50 Auditions will be held Friday 1/3/14 @ 7:30pm at Tabernacle of Praise Cathedral. Rehearsals begin immediately in January. My Advice to Married Couples After Divorcing My Wife of 16 Years

As we enter the new year, let’s commit to enhancing EVERY area of our lives. In the end marriage isn’t about happily ever after. It’s about work. And a commitment to grow together and a willingness to continually invest in creating something that can endure eternity. Through that work, the happiness will come. Marriage is life, and it will bring ups and downs. Embracing all of the cycles and learning to learn from and love each experience will bring the strength and perspective to keep building, one brick at a time.

Obviously, I’m not a relationship expert. But there’s something about my divorce being finalized this week that gives me perspective of things I wish I would have done different… After losing a woman that I loved, and a marriage of almost 16 years, here’s the advice I wish I would have had. 1. Never stop dating. NEVER EVER take that woman for granted. When you asked her to marry you, you promised to be that man that would OWN HER HEART and to fiercely protect it. SHE CHOSE YOU. Never forget that, and NEVER GET LAZY in your love.


2. Protect your own heart. Just as you committed to being the protector of her heart, you must guard your own with the same vigilance. Love yourself fully, love the world openly, but there is a special place in your heart where no one must enter except your wife.

4. Always see the best in her. Focus only on what you love. What you focus on will expand. If you focus on what bugs you, all you will see is reasons to be bugged. Focus to the point where you can no longer see anything but love, and you know without a doubt that you are the luckiest man on earth to have this woman as your wife.

3. Fall in love over and over again. You will constantly change. You’re not the same people you were when you got married - in that you have to re-choose each other everyday. Always fight to win her love, just as you did when you were courting her.

5. Take full accountability for your own emotions: It’s not your wife’s job to make you happy, and she CAN’T make you sad. You are responsible for finding your own happiness, and through that your joy will spill over into your relationship and your love.
