BUILDING ON OUR SUCCESS
IN 1963, Florida Governor C. Farris Bryant signed a bill which officially created the University of Central Florida. When classes began in 1968, the charter enrollment in the College of Business Administration was 255 students and 12 faculty members. Today, UCF is the second-largest university in the nation. We certainly have increased in size, but more importantly, we have increased the quality of our programs, our students, our faculty and our facilities. We are proud of our accomplishments and will continue to build on our success.
A MESSAGE from the Dean
When people think of UCF, they think “BIG!” It’s true we are one of the nation’s largest universities and business schools. But BIG also describes the opportunities we have for students to realize their dreams, the commitment of our faculty to learning and the success of our graduates. Whether you have a BIG dream to start your own business like Alex Gramatikas, or travel the world like Ali BetroneHarpst, our award-winning faculty have helped thousands get there. People like Donna Bobek Schmitt, Cameron Ford, Richard Lapchick, and Carolyn Massiah have BIG ideas that engage students and transform lives. The result is BIG success stories from alumni like Merrell Bailey and Dean Caravelis, who demonstrate how business gets done. Come explore UCF and the College of Business Administration and make the decision to become a part of something BIG. Paul Jarley Dean Email: pjarley@bus.ucf.edu Twitter: @pauljarley

The comprehensive curriculum equips students with the business skills necessary to pursue successful careers in the sports industry. Alexandra
GRAMATIKAS, ‘12 (MBA) “I have never been to a school with such an interconnected web of support. It is truly refreshing to be part of an institution where the focus of every effort is on the students and the community.”
Winner of the Joust Competition What began as an arts and crafts project turned into an award-winning business plan for Alexandra Gramatikas. She won top award at the Joust Competition for presenting her proposal for ALTR (alter), a company that creates cleverly-designed button covers. The covers can include a company or team logo, and alter any garment with buttons. For her efforts, Gramatikas was awarded $10,000 and one free year at the UCF Incubator (valued at $5,000). She credits the CEI for helping her succeed: “The CEI became my home away from home during my last semester. Between seeking advice from the Coach’s Corner or just talking out ideas, the support of the center was what got me through the Joust.”
Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation According to a recent study by the Kauffman Foundation, more than one-half of U.S. college-aged individuals would like to pursue entrepreneurship as a career option. The CEI fulfills that need by educating, advising and supporting both undergraduate and graduate entrepreneurial students from all academic disciplines. As interest in entrepreneurship continues to grow, so do the opportunities for student engagement. The CEI hosts numerous networking events, speakers and student competitions. The CEI is growing as well. In addition to the main office located within the College of Business Administration, an advising office located in the lobby of the Student Union will soon open where students Cameron can receive personalized consulting services and Ford other co-curricular offerings. Furthermore, Director students who are ready to launch a venture can apply for free office and meeting space as well as other critical resources from the new Student Venture Accelerator which is scheduled to open in 2013. Collectively, the initiatives offered by the CEI can empower entrepreneurial students to turn their vision into successful business ventures.

CBA Across the USA! While Florida is still home to more than 79 percent of our graduates, CBA alums can be found in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The college has an active alumni chapter that holds events throughout the year including an annual golf tournament that raises money for student scholarships. Many of our alumni stay active within the college by serving as mentors, speaking to classes, providing financial support and hiring our students. And, even though some of our graduates may be far away from UCF… they stay close by engaging online and joining regional chapters.

BAILEY, ‘85, ‘89, ‘01 & ‘07
“I am a recovering CPA who crossed over to the dark side to practice solely as an attorney!”
