JORDAN

WOLFRUM Head Swimming Coach 2nd Season St. Cloud State ‘09

Jordan Wolfrum enters her second season as head coach at UCLA in 2020-21. Wolfrum, who was most recently an associate head coach at Ohio State, was named the seventh head coach in program history on Jun. 27, 2019. She succeeded Cyndi Gallagher, who retired after the 2018-19 season following a 31-year tenure as head coach. On the pool deck, she worked mostly with the program’s middle distance swimmers, helping produce nine NCAA qualifiers and seven school record-holders.

Her first year in Westwood was an inarguable success. The Bruins posted a 7-3 record in dual meets, opening the campaign with seven consecutive wins. UCLA would go on to finish fourth at Pac-12s, the program’s best finish since 2014, while producing five CSCAA All-Americans. The Bruins’ 400 medley relay team set a new school record (3:33.81) at Pac-12s, and five Bruins (three swimmers, two divers) would secure NCAA Championships qualification. UCLA also took care of business in the classroom, placing a dozen studentathletes on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.

Wolfrum had a brief but productive stint with Stanford, helping the Cardinal women to a second-place finish at NCAAs in 2013-14. She worked extensively with the team’s breaststrokers, helping Katie Olsen to a pair of top-five national finishes. The Cardinal set a trio of American records that year and an NCAA record in the 400 medley relay. Her first collegiate coaching stop came at the College of Saint Benedict, where she spent three years as an assistant coach and one as head coach. She helped the Blazers to a fourth-place finish at the 2012 MIAC Championships. During her tenure, she coached 11 All-MIAC swimmers, including a team-record eight in 2012-13.

Wolfrum was initially hired as an assistant coach at Ohio State in 2014 before being promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2016-17 campaign. She previously made coaching stops as a volunteer assistant coach at Stanford and as an assistant coach, associate head coach, and interim head coach at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn.

As a student-athlete, she was a four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain at St. Cloud State. Wolfrum helped the Huskies to a Northern Sun Swimming Championship in her senior season and qualified for conference championships four times. She graduated with honors in 2009, receiving a degree in mathematics with a minor in statistics.

During her five-season run in Columbus, the Ohio State women compiled an impressive 48-9 record in dual meets and finished top-25 at the NCAA Championships on four occasions. The Buckeyes finished with just one dual meet loss in three of her five seasons (2014-15, 2016-17, 2017-18), and finished third at the B1G Championships in each of the past two years. Wolfrum also helped the OSU men – who began competition prior to 2017-18 – to a 12-4 record over two seasons and a ninth-place finish at this year’s NCAAs.

Wolfrum’s Career Coaching Record

She had a hand in practically every facet of the Ohio State swim program, serving as the recruiting coordinator while taking the lead on compliance, team culture, academics, and budgeting. She also implemented a student-athlete development program centered on leadership and career growth.

The 2011-2012 season was keyed by Emma Ivory-Ganja, who was named Pac-12 Conference Newcomer of the Year for diving after a very successful freshman campaign which saw her finish third on both 3M and Platform at the conference meet. Ivory-Ganja also set a new meet record on 3M at the Pac-12 Championships and narrowly miss a spot at the NCAA Championships after placing fourth on Platform at the Zone E meet. Ivory-Ganja and 2011 graduate Winn also competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Head Diving Coach 23rd Season at UCLA 25th Season overall Yale ‘96

In 2012-2013, the UCLA diving team sent its first Bruin to the NCAA Championships since 2009 when Ivory-Ganja qualified by virtue of her fourth-place finish in the 3M at the NCAA Zone E Championships. At NCAA’s, Ivory-Ganja won the B Final of the 3M event and was also seventh in the Platform, to earn her First Team All-America status, and 29th in the 1M. Ivory-Ganja, the only diver to post three top-five finishes at the previous year’s NCAA Zones (fourth in Platform, fifth in 1M), was one of three Bruins to participate in the event. Vale’s best showing was 21st in the 3M, while Guzman’s top performance was 24th in the 3M. Montana Monahan qualified for the Senior Nationals, finishing 21st in the Platform event.

Tom Stebbins enters his 23rd season as the head coach of the UCLA women’s diving team in 2020-21, a program that has had much success since his tenure in Westwood began. Stebbins was recently named the Pac-12 Diving Coach of the Year at the conclusion of three consecutive seasons (2017-19), making him just the second person ever to threepeat as the league’s top diving coach.

In 2013-2014, three Bruins qualified for the NCAA Zones in Guzman, Monahan and freshman Annika Lenz. Lenz was fourth in the Platform event, ninth in the 3M and 14th in the 1M at Zones, setting a personal best (329.80) in the 3M at the Pac-12 Championships. Lenz won four dual meet events and was named Pac-12 Diver of the Month for November. Monahan was 15th in the Platform at NCAA Zones, while Guzman was 16th in the 1M.

Despite losing the program’s top two divers, UCLA diving was once again a force nationally in 2019-20. Junior Ruby Neave emerged as one of the top divers on the west coast, winning the 1-meter title at Pac-12s and finishing runner-up at the NCAA Zone E Championships. She was one of four Bruins who ultimately qualified for Zones, joining junior Alice Yanovsky and true freshmen Hannah Butler and Katie Shaheen.

In 2014-15, Maria Polyakova was named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year after an historic initial season in Westwood, which culminated in a fourth-place finish in the 3M at the NCAA Championships. She became the first Bruin to qualify for a championship final since 2013, posting the best showing ever for a UCLA diver at NCAA’s and the best Bruin finish at Championships since 2006. During her historic performance in the 3M, Polyakova broke her own school record twice with a 380.60 in the preliminaries and a 392.00 in the championship. Sophomore Annika Lenz, who set a UCLA school record in the Platform at the Pac-12 Championships (323.15), finished fourth at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships in March.

Stebbins earned CSCAA Diving Coach of the Year honors in 2018-19, making him the second Pac-12 coach ever to take home that award. UCLA divers combined to score 75 points at the NCAA Championships, the most of any school nationwide and a new program benchmark. Under his tutelage, Maria Polyakova was named the CSCAA and Pac-12 Diver of the Year while Eloise Belanger scored more points (38) than any other diver at NCAAs. In 2017-18, Stebbins guided Eloise Belanger to UCLA’s second straight Pac-12 Diver of the Year Award. Belanger won the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the Pac-12 Championships, then finished second in three events at the 2018 NCAA Zone E Championships.

In the summer of 2015, Polyakova won gold in the 1M, while also finishing second in the Synchronized 3M and fifth in the 3M, in the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. Polyakova also won the Women’s 1M at her 2015 Summer National Championships in Russia and finished ninth in the 1M finals at the FINA World Championships. Ciara Monahan qualified for August’s AT&T USA Diving Senior National Championships after her fifth-place finish in the 1M at the USA Diving Zone F Championships.

The year prior, he helped Maria Polyakova to the first conference Diver of the Year honor of his tenure. Before coming to UCLA, Stebbins served as head diving coach at Fordham University, where he coached two-time senior national qualifier Paul Delo, who won two Atlantic 10 titles each on the 1M and 3M. Stebbins also helped coach Delo to an undefeated record in the 1996-97 season.

In 2015-16, Eloise Belanger was named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year after posting a runner-up finish in the Platform event at the Pac-12 Championships. She also placed third in the 1M and fourth in the 3M. The freshman’s standout debut season culminated in a second-place finish in the 1M event at the NCAA Championships. Her score of 336.00 in the finals set a new UCLA record in the event, previously held by Marisa Samaniego. Once again, Maria Polyakova had a stellar season, twice earning Pac-12 Diver of the Month honors and winning 12 of 14 regular season diving competitions. The Bruin sophomore captured the 1M crown at Pac-12s and went on to post two top-five finishes in the springboard events at the NCAA Championships. Junior Annika Lenz placed fourth in the platform event at Pac-12s. During the summer season, all three Bruins went on to compete at the Olympic Trials for their respective nations.

Coach Stebbins’ Background Stebbins was a four-year letterwinner at Yale University, a three-time NCAA Zone qualifier and a four-time All-Ivy League selection. While diving at Yale, he helped lead his team to the 1993 Ivy League co-title. In 1996, he won the Heaton High Point Award and was named the recipient of the Phil Moriarty MVP Prize. Stebbins graduated from Yale in 1996 with a degree in psychology. A native of Connecticut, he now resides in Playa del Rey with his wife Erika, daughter Reilly and son Owen. The Stebbins Philosophy “Luck sits squarely at the intersection of hard work and opportunity.” Coach Stebbins believes that each person is in total control of creating her own luck. The UCLA Diving program stresses the need for the individual to be accountable to herself, her teammates, her sport, and her studies. With all of the wonderful opportunities presented to student athletes at UCLA, it is important that each person know that she is responsible for the decisions and directions that she chooses. This is the beginning of a lifelong process in which the student-athlete learns how to maximize herself academically, athletically, and socially. While the coaching staff hopes to steer this direction, it is the student-athlete herself that will determine how quickly she will achieve her goals. Coach Stebbins believes, “We are all very fortunate to be part of the greatest athletic program in the country. How we choose to give back to that tradition should go well beyond the few moments each individual will spend competing in the Bruin Blue. Becoming a Bruin is just the beginning of a lifelong commitment to creating excellence in every facet of your life. As coaches, we are all here to enhance the early stages of that process, through our passion, dedication, and enthusiasm for the people whose lives we have the opportunity to touch.” The Last Decade During the 2010-2011 season, Winn finished third on Platform at the Pac-10 Championships and competed at the NCAA Zone E Championships. Winn also competed at her first Senior National Meet and qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials on Platform. Paulina Guzman had a solid first year with the Bruins as she also competed at Zones. Guzman also represented

Honors were heaped upon the Bruins in 2016-17, with Maria Polyakova the most decorated of all. The junior was named Pac-12 Diver of the Year after a red-hot close to her campaign that began with her second Pac-12 championship in as many years. The Penza, Russia native took the 3M competition while reaching the podium in the 1M and Platform events en route to the Diver of the Meet award. Polyakova went on to set two school records at the NCAA Zone E Championships, posting scores of 398.75 and 339.05 in the 3M and 1M events, respectively. In all, the 2016-17 Bruins qualified four divers for the NCAA Championships after strong showings at Zones. Joining Polyakova were sophomore Eloise Belanger, senior Annika Lenz and junior Ciara Monahan. Polyakova went on to cap her remarkable season with a pair of top-five finishes, while Belanger scored points in the 1M and Platform competitions. Belanger and Polyakova were also named CSCAA All-Americans for their performances. Those two also made UCLA the only school to tally multiple Pac-12 Diver of the Month awards as Stebbins went on to capture his first Pac-12 Diving Coach of the Year honor.

KRUSZEWSKI Assistant Swimming Coach 2nd Season Wisconsin ‘13

Karissa Kruszewski joined the UCLA swim and dive program as an assistant coach before the 2019-20 season. Kruszewski most recently served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for men’s and women’s swimming and diving at UNLV.

Under his tutelage, UCLA had another banner year in 2017-18. Eloise Belanger won the program’s second straight Pac-12 Diver of the Year Award. She won the 1m and 3m titles at the Pac-12 Championships, then finished second in three events at the Zone E Championships en route to a pair of top-10 finishes at NCAAs. Traci Shiver, Alice Yanovsky, and Ciara Monahan all qualified for Zones as well. At the end of the year, Stebbins repeated as the league’s Diving Coach of the Year, a program first.

Kruszewski (pronounced kroo-Shef-skee) helped the Bruins to a standout campaign in 2019-20, her first year on staff. The Bruins posted a 7-3 record in dual meets, placed fourth at the Pac-12 Championships (the program’s best finish since 2014), and qualified five student-athletes for NCAA Championships before the season was cut short by COVID-19.

2018-19 was arguably the best season in Bruin diving history, leading to CSCAA Diving Coach of the Year honors for Stebbins. UCLA divers combined to score 75 points at NCAAs, a figure which led all schools and established a new program benchmark. The Bruins produced the 3M champion in Polyakova, as well as the highest-scoring diver of the meet in Belanger, who had 38 points across three events. Polyakova was the second-highest scoring diver at the meet with 37 points over two events. After the season, Polyakova was tabbed as the Pac-12 Diver of the Year while Stebbins garnered Pac-12 Diving Coach of the Year acclaim. Stebbins is the second person ever to three-peat as the Pac-12’s top diving coach. UCLA had four divers qualify for Zones, and came agonizingly close to sending a trio of divers to NCAAs as Traci Shiver finished less than a point short of qualifying on tower. UCLA dominated the diving portion of its meets all season, as a Bruin won 21 of 33 diving events the squad entered, including 16 wins in 21 events during the 2019 calendar year.

Prior to arriving at UCLA, she spent three seasons at UNLV (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19), working primarily with middle distance and distance swimmers. As the recruiting coordinator for the program, she was responsible for building each of UNLV’s recruit classes while planning and managing all recruiting visits. Kruszewski also collaborated with the head coach to design and implement training programs for both the men’s and women’s squads. In both 2017-18 and 2018-19, she helped produce the Freshman of the Meet at UNLV’s league championships, as Brad Gonzales accomplished the feat in 2018 after winning a WAC Championship in the 1650 free while Carissa Armijo was honored after finishing second in the 500 free at the 2019 Mountain West Championships. The Rebels broke three school records during Kruszewki’s tenure. Prior to joining the staff at UNLV, Kruszewski spent 2015-16 as the assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and academic supervisor at Cal State East Bay. That year, the Pioneers set four school records, notched 17 NCAA B Cuts, and placed six student-athletes on the All-PCSC Team. Cal State East Bay would go on to finish second at the 2016 PCSC Championships.

Despite a hefty amount of turnover that included four graduated seniors, 2019-20 was another standout year for UCLA diving. Ruby Neave, who didn’t compete her first two years at UCLA due to injury, broke through as one of the top divers in both the conference and the country, winning the 1M diving title at Pac-12s and finishing runner-up in the same event at Zones. She was the third consecutive Bruin to win the 1M crown at Pac-12s. Neave would eventually earn double NCAA qualification after placing sixth in 3M at Zones. The season was also marked by the emergence of true freshmen Katie Shaheen and Hannah Butler, who both improved markedly over the course of the season en route to Zones qualification. Butler went on to earn All-America honors after qualifying for NCAAs in 1-meter, and narrowly missed out on joining Neave in the double-qualifier club after placing 12th in 3M at Zones. Junior Alice Yanovsky gave the Bruins four Zones participants.

She started her coaching career as the head coach for the girl’s program at Oregon High School in Oregon, Wis. and for the men’s program at Stoughton High School in Stoughton, Wis. from 2013-15. Kruszewski was a three-year letterwinner at the University of Wisconsin, earning Big Ten Academic All-Conference honors in all six of her semesters. She began her collegiate career at UC Irvine in 2008 where she was named a Scholar-Athlete. The Murrieta, Calif. native earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Wisconsin in 2013, and received a certificate in organizational leadership and communication from UC Irvine in 2016. DIRKS POOL AT SPIEKER AQUATICS CENTER

Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center has served as the home for UCLA swimming and diving since 2009.

Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center The Spieker Aquatics Center brings together all three of UCLA’s intercollegiate aquatics sports - men’s and women’s water polo, and women’s swimming and diving - to one venue. The state-of-the-art facility was made possible thanks to a generous lead gift from former UCLA studentathlete Tod Spieker and his wife, Catherine. Tod was an All-America swimmer at UCLA, competing from 19681971, and continues to successfully compete in Master’s Swimming. The UCLA Athletics Department unveiled the Spieker Aquatics Center on Sept. 26, 2009, when the Bruin men’s water polo team hosted UC Irvine under the lights. Prior to that evening’s water polo match, the Athletics Department hosted a private reception at the new, state-of-the-art facility. In addition, Spieker Aquatics Center served as host to the 2010 MPSF Women’s Water Polo Tournament, marking the first time that UCLA had hosted a water polo tournament. The Bruins’ aquatics center is the home to UCLA’s men’s and women’s water polo, and swimming and diving teams. The facility features a 52-meter by 25-yard all-deep water pool with a dividing bulkhead, allowing races to take place at varying distances (meters versus yards). The pool also features four platforms on a diving tower, at heights of three, five, seven and one-half, and 10-meter platforms, as well as one and three-meter springboards. The aquatics center also features a warming pool behind the tower for divers. The main pool, Dirks Pool, is named after Carolyn Dirks, who provided the lead gift for the swimming pool. Dirks Pool will also be used for special use events and Masters Swim meets. The signature feature of the Spieker Aquatics Center is the diving tower, which sits at the pool’s west end. The east end houses the new scoreboard, an LED, state-ofthe-art piece of electronics that makes scores and statistics

Next to the scoreboard is the “Wall of Champions”, showcasing UCLA’s water polo, and swimming and diving national championship teams, as well as all individual student-athletes’ achievements, record holders and Olympians. Separate men’s and women’s locker rooms house enough lockers for all team members. Equipment needed for meets and matches have storage capacity on the facility’s south side. The aquatics center features event lighting and permanent seating with the possibility of additional temporary seating for larger events. 33

ADMINISTRATOR BIOGRAPHIES

Martin Jarmond

Gavin Crew

Dr. Gene Block

Director of Athletics 1st Year UNC-Wilmington ‘01

Associate Athletic Director 5th Year UCLA ‘99

Chancellor 14th Year Stanford ‘77

Martin Jarmond was hired on May 19, 2020 as UCLA’s Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics, becoming the ninth athletic director in school history.

Gavin Crew was named Associate Athletic Director for Sports and Administration in April 2016. He has spent over a decade with the Bruins, from 2001-2005 and 2008-present.

Jarmond came to UCLA from Boston College, where he served as the school’s Director of Athletics for three years. During his time there, he orchestrated the Eagles’ first-ever strategic plan, a comprehensive five-year goal to advance the program by fostering student-athlete formation, strengthening competitive excellence, increasing external engagement and enhancing facilities. The strategic plan was supported by BC’s first-ever athletics-only capital campaign, at the time, the largest campaign of any Atlantic Coast Conference institution at $150 million. The campaign has raised $121 million to date. Among the new ventures he brought to Boston College were a student-athlete fueling station, a program for first-generation student-athletes, and a fan council focused on improving the atmosphere and fan experience.

Crew oversees seven sports in his role - men’s soccer, men’s volleyball, women’s swimming & diving, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s track & field (indoor and outdoor) and women’s track & field (indoor and outdoor). Additionally, he supervises the Camps & Clinics office.

He has defined academic excellence, civic engagement, diversity and financial security as top priorities for his administration. A champion of public universities, his dedication to access and affordability has enhanced UCLA’s position as a national leader in enrolling undergraduates who are Pell Grant recipients, come from underrepresented groups and go on to become first-generation college graduates.

In his first stint in the UCLA Athletics Department, he oversaw the expansion of the Camps & Clinics office to a year-round business operation, managing the growing demand for athletic camp operations in Westwood. From 2005-2008, Crew worked with Excel Sports Officiating to help train and work with officials, umpires and referees in all sports and at all levels.

Under Chancellor Block’s leadership, UCLA has been named the number one public university in the United States, has grown its profile internationally and receives $1 billion annually in research grants. In one of the largest capital campaigns ever undertaken by a public university, UCLA surpassed its $4.2 billion Centennial fundraising goal more than a year ahead of schedule, raising $5.49 billion total.

Boston College teams enjoyed on-the-field success during his tenure, with the football team playing in a bowl game each season, the women’s lacrosse team reaching the national championship game in 2018, the 2019 women’s field hockey team advancing to its first Final Four, and the men’s and women’s hockey teams combining for three conference championships in the last two years. Academically, Boston College continued to thrive under Jarmond’s leadership. The school ranks eighth in the nation with an overall Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 94% in all sports among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools, with 12 teams scoring a perfect 100 GSR. Boston College also ranks among the highest in the nation in Academic Progress Rate (APR). Six Eagles teams recently received the NCAA APR Public Recognition Award, which is bestowed upon teams finishing in the top 10% of their respective sport, based on the multi-year APR. Included in those six was football, one of only 13 football programs at the FBS level to earn a Public Recognition Award, and one of only five to earn an award for the last three years. Prior to joining Boston College in 2017 and becoming the youngest athletic director of any Power Five institution at age 37, Jarmond previously served as deputy director of athletics at Ohio State, moving up the ranks after arriving as an associate athletic director for development in 2009. During his time at Ohio State, he was the lead administrator for a variety of sports, including football and men’s basketball, and directed external and internal relations and day-to-day operations. He also had responsibility for football scheduling, served on the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Committee, and was a member of the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship Advisory Group and the Rose Bowl Advisory Committee. As Ohio State Athletics’ chief advancement officer, Jarmond helped raise more than $120 million between 2010-2012. Jarmond was also an assistant athletic director for development for seven years at Michigan State, where he served on the athletic director’s executive leadership team. He was a key member of the $1.2 billion “Campaign for MSU” development team and a liaison between Michigan State’s university development and alumni association leadership.

Upon his return to UCLA in 2008, Crew once again oversaw the camp office and added championship coordinator to his plate. In addition to continuing the growth of the camp operation into a $3 million revenue generator for the Athletic Department, he has also executed several major NCAA, Pac-12 and MPSF Championships on campus, including the 2013 NCAA National Collegiate Gymnastics Championship, 2013 NCAA National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Championship, 2015 Pac-12 Track & Field Championship, 2014 and 2016 NCAA Women’s Basketball 1st/2nd Rounds, 2015 NCAA National Collegiate Men’s Water Polo Championships, and the 2016 NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Water Polo Championships. Crew graduated with a degree in Political Science from UCLA in 1999. Originally from Irvine, Calif., Crew lives in the Silver Lake neighborhood with his wife, Cassidy.

Dr. Gene Block became chancellor of UCLA in August 2007. As chief executive officer, he oversees the university’s three-part mission of education, research and service.

An expert in neuroscience, Chancellor Block’s current research focuses on the effects of aging in the nervous system and how it impacts biological timing in mammals, including humans. He holds faculty appointments in psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and in integrative biology and physiology in the UCLA College of Letters and Science. Chancellor Block holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stanford University and a master’s and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Oregon. Before becoming chancellor of UCLA, Block served as vice president and provost of the University of Virginia, where he was also the Alumni Council Thomas Jefferson Professor of Biology. During his 29 years there, he served as vice president for research and public service and as founding director of the National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center in Biological Timing. Chancellor Block has served on the executive boards of several leading organizations, including the Association of American Universities, National Collegiate Athletic Association, Association of Public and Land-grant Universities and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities. He is the recipient of numerous professional awards and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Chancellor Block is a native of Monticello, N.Y. He and his wife, Carol, have two adult children.

PAC-12 CONFERENCE Built on a firm foundation of academic excellence and superior athletic performance, the Pac-12 Conference renewed its undisputed claim as the Conference of Champions® in 2019-20. Beyond the courts and fields, the Pac-12’s accomplishments extend into the classrooms across 12 campuses, and outside its traditional geographic footprint into new corners around the world. The only conference to win 500 NCAA Championships, the Pac12 captured three of the seven national championships contested in 2019-20 before all sports competition was canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic adding to a legacy that includes 193 NCAA team titles claimed since 1999-2000 and 333 since 1981-82, the start of women’s sports sponsorship, an average of over eight per year. Even more impressive has been the breadth of the Pac-12’s success with championships coming in 28 different men’s and women’s sports. The Pac-12 has led or tied the nation in NCAA Championships in 54 of the last 60 years, with the exceptions coming no lower than third. The Pac-12 has won the most or tied for the most NCAA titles for 15-consecutive seasons, winning at least six every year from 1999-2000 to 2018-19, winning a record 14 in 1996-97. No other conference has won double-digit NCAA championships in a single year. Spanning over a century of outstanding athletics achievements, the Pac-12 has claimed 529 NCAA Championships (305 men’s, 193 women’s, 31 combined), over 200 more than the next league. Since the NCAA began conducting women’s championships 39 years ago, Pac-12 members have claimed at least four national titles in a single season on 29 occasions, including every year since 2000-01 except two (2012-13 and the 2019-20-shortened campaign). Pac-12 teams have captured 193 NCAA women’s titles, easily outdistancing the SEC, which is second with 106. Pac-12 members have dominated a number of sports, winning 24 softball titles, 24 tennis crowns, 17 volleyball titles, 19 of the last 30 trophies in golf, and 17 in swimming & diving.

conference in the last four postseasons. In 2019-20, the Pac-12 was the most talked about conference in women’s basketball beginning with OREGON’s historic exhibition win over Team USA before the season started. Led by consensus national player of the year and three-time Pac-12 Player of the Year Sabrina Ionescu, the Ducks went on to win the regular-season for the third year in a row and cut down the nets of the Pac-12 Tournament for the second time in three years in the event’s new home at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The league boasted the No. 1 conference RPI and five teams were expected to receive top-16 NCAA Tournament seeds, as was announced in the final NCAA reveal in the first week of March. For the first time ever, six Pac-12 teams were ranked in the final Associated Press poll with Oregon (No. 2), STANFORD (No. 7) and UCLA (No. 10) appearing in the top 10.

exception of 1943-45 when World War II curtailed intercollegiate athletic competition to a minimum. During that time, the league’s first commissioner was named. Edwin N. Atherton was Commissioner in 1940 and was succeeded by Victor O. Schmidt in 1944. In 1950, Montana resigned from the Conference and the PCC continued as a nine-team Conference through 1958.

STANFORD women’s volleyball was dominant in the postseason after winning its 19th all-time Pac-12 title, dropping just two sets in the tournament to fellow league-opponent UTAH, who also had a record season. Joining the Cardinal and Utes in the postseason were UCLA, USC, WASHINGTON and WASHINGTON STATE. Twelve student-athletes were tabbed All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Four teams also appeared in the final AVCA Coaches poll. The Pac-12 has won a NCAA-record 17 of 39 NCAA titles awarded.

Ten years later, on July 1, 1978, the University of Arizona and Arizona State University were admitted to the league and the Pacific-10 Conference became a reality. In 1986-87, the league took on a new look, expanding to include 10 women’s sports. Since then, the Conference has been considered the premier league in women’s athletics, securing the most NCAA titles in women’s sports of any conference nearly every year.

The Pac-12 baseball and softball seasons abruptly came to an end just before league play got underway because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Defending Pac-12 Champion UCLA baseball team was leading the country with the lowest hits allowed per nine innings average (4.97) and best WHIP (0.87). The Pac-12 has historically dominated the softball field, as well, claiming a national record 24 NCAA titles in the 38-year history of the championship, the most recent coming in 2019 when UCLA captured its 13th all-time. PAC-12 CONFERENCE HISTORY

Individually, the Conference has produced an impressive number of NCAA individual champions. Over 2,000 (2,379) individual crowns have been won by Pac-12 student-athletes over the years with 1,383 by male student-athletes. Pac-12 women student-athletes have captured an unmatched 808 NCAA individual crowns, an average of nearly 21 championships per season. Student-athletes have also captured 188 individual titles at combined championships (i.e., skiing and fencing).

The roots of the Pac-12 Conference date back more than 100 years to December 2, 1915, when the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) was founded at a meeting at the Imperial Hotel in Portland, Oregon. The original membership consisted of four schools - the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Washington, the University of Oregon, and Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State University). All four are still charter members of the Conference.

The Pac-12’s excellence is further proven in the annual Division I Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup competition, the prestigious award that honors the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country. STANFORD won an unprecedented 25th-consecutive Directors’ Cup in 2018-19 to lead the Conference with at least five member institutions earning scores in the top 25 each year of the Directors’ Cup program. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Directors’ Cup was not awarded in 2019-20.

Pacific Coast Conference play began in 1916 and, one year later, Washington State College (now Washington State University) was accepted into the league, with Stanford University following in 1918. The PCC competed as a 10-member league until 1950, with the

In 1959, the PCC was dissolved and the Athletic Association of Western Universities (AAWU) was formed with Thomas J. Hamilton appointed Commissioner of the new league. The original AAWU membership included California, Stanford, USC, UCLA, and Washington. Washington State joined the membership in 1962, while Oregon and Oregon State joined in 1964. Under Hamilton’s watch, the name Pacific-8 Conference was adopted in 1968. In 1971, Wiles Hallock took over as Commissioner of the Pac-8.

Thomas C. Hansen was named the Commissioner of the Pac-10 in 1983, a role he would hold for 26 years until 2009, when he was succeeded by current Commissioner Larry Scott. The University of Colorado accepted its invitation to join the Pac-12 on June 11, 2010, and on June 17, 2010, the University of Utah agreed to join the Conference. The Conference became the Pac-12 and officially began competition on July 1, 2011. It was during the 2010-11 academic year that Scott helped deliver monumental changes that transformed the Conference into a modern 12-team league. In addition to expanding to 12 teams, member institutions agreed to equal revenue sharing for the first time in the Conference’s history, created two football divisions - the North and the South, and established a Football Championship Game for the first time. He also secured landmark media rights deals with ESPN and FOX that dramatically increased national exposure and revenue for each school, in addition to establishing Pac-12 Networks which guaranteed enhanced exposure across all sports. Currently, the Pac-12 sponsors 11 men’s sports and 13 women’s sports, with the most recent additions coming in the 2017-18 (women’s lacrosse) and 2015-16 (beach volleyball) academic years. Additionally, the Conference is a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) in four other men’s sports and two women’s sports. The Pac-12 Conference offices are located in the heart of San Francisco in the SOMA district.

2019-20 YEAR IN REVIEW Seven NCAA Championships were contested during the 201920 campaign before the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic led to the cancelation of competition in mid-March, including the remainder of the national championships. Stanford alone was en route to a special season, claiming three of the seven titles as no other school claimed multiple titles. Nine Pac-12 teams finished among the top four out of a possible 28 at the championships, representing five different Pac-12 institutions. The Cardinal won titles this season in men’s water polo, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball, extending its streak of at least one NCAA team title to 44 years. Stanford also posted top-four finishes in women’s cross country and men’s soccer, while Colorado came in third at the men’s cross country national meet and USC placed in a tie for third in men’s water polo. Three-quarters of the NCAA Women’s College Cup hailed from the Pac-12 for the first time ever with WASHINGTON STATE making its first-ever appearance in the national semifinal, joining the Cardinal and UCLA. Pac-12 women’s basketball has established itself as a premier league in the sport, riding a wave of success in recent years that includes winning the most NCAA Tournament games of any
