Spend time together— not a fortune.

You’ll find it easy here— visitmilwaukee.org

As the temperature turns chilly, it's time to welcome winter. While Milwaukee winters may be cold and snowy, don't let that small obstacle keep you from enjoying Milwaukee County!

Acquaint yourself with downtown Milwaukee's County Parks and enjoy the festive holiday lights. Famous local hot spots include Cathedral Square, Zeidler Union Square and Pere Marquette Park. You also can head to Red Arrow Park and skate at the outdoor ice rink.

Crisp air and snowy landscapes greet visitors to Milwaukee this time of year. The heartiest enjoy outdoor recreation and sights, but there's plenty of indoor activities to keep everyone entertained.

Milwaukee has wonderful restaurants in neighborhoods all across the city. You'll find cuisines from around the world.

On days that are too cold to spend outside, explore Milwaukee's breweries and enjoy the fun tours and tastings. Follow up with a visit to Brady Street or the Historic Third Ward for a meal, some window-shopping and a walk through one of the numerous art galleries. As you plan your Milwaukee visit, KEY Milwaukee is an outstanding resource. No matter what you choose to do in Milwaukee County, I hope you enjoy your time with us. Sincerely,

Chris Abele, Milwaukee County Executive

Our museums warmly welcome winter visitors. The Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World, The Milwaukee Public Museum and the Betty Brinn Children's Museum are some of the favorites. And, look to our universities and neighborhoods for smaller museums which are gems of culture and information.

As the cooler weather sets in, the performing arts heat up. Our symphony, ballet and theatre companies are all world class. Milwaukee weather pushes many inside, and during our winter, inside is a fine place to be. Sincerely,

Tom Barrett, Mayor

Holiday Lights Festival DOWNTOWN MILWAUKEE will beam brightly through Dec. 28 as part of the 16th Annual Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival. The award-winning, six-week festival features hundreds of events, 500,000 lights and a convenient Jingle Bus tour that connects visitors to all the brilliant displays. “The Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival conveniently packages all of downtown’s activities and events to help make the season a joyful one for all of our guests,” said Beth Weirick, CEO of Milwaukee Downtown, Business Improvement District #21, the organization responsible for coordinating the annual event. “Downtown’s light displays and plethora of lively events are sure to get families into the holiday spirit.” Each season, the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival decorates three Milwaukee County parks with largerthan-life animated sculptures. For additional information on the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival, call 414-220-4700 or visit milwaukeeholidaylights.com.

Cathedral Square Park Cathedral Square Park, 520 E. Wells St., again hosts “Community Spirit Park” as more than 60 metro Milwaukee schools adorn evergreens with handmade ornaments reflecting a class theme. The school trees surround a 50-foot tree of ever-changing red, blue and green lights. The display is presented by Columbia St. Mary’s, Madison Medical Affiliates, Ideal Property Management and Milwaukee County Parks. 8

Cocoa with the Clauses Cathedral Square Park also hosts the North Pole’s most recognizable residents for Cocoa with the Clauses, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. Kids can share their wish lists while parents snap a keepsake photo. Free hot cocoa and cookies are part of the holiday fun, as well as free face painting, games and roving holiday characters. Meal deals just for kids also will be offered by neighboring restaurants. While Cocoa with the Clauses is free, a nonperishable food donation for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is encouraged. The event is presented by Madison Medical Affiliates.

Pere Marquette Park Pere Marquette Park, 900 N. Plankinton Ave., features “Candy Cottage Forest,” a display presented by Zilber Property Group and Milwaukee County Parks. Sure to satisfy any sweet tooth, visitors travel to an almost-edible wonderland filled with gingerbread men and candy canes. All can feast their eyes on sugary sculptures and a special gingerbread house!

Zeidler Union Square Zeidler Union Square, 301 W. Michigan St., features “Frosty Frolics,” presented by We Energies and Milwaukee County Parks Kids of all ages will enjoy a stroll through twinkling

brightens downtown sculptures of Jack and Jill Frost while they celebrate in the company of friends. Snow people juggle, skate and ski their way to outdoor fun.

Wisconsin Avenue Wisconsin Avenue, downtown Milwaukee’s grandest stretch, is beautifully lit by oversized chandeliers centered above each intersection, complete with bright swags extending to each corner. The custom-made chandeliers are installed at every intersection from James Lovell Street to the foot of Wisconsin Avenue, following the bend to Prospect Avenue.

Jingle Bus will not operate on Christmas Day. Waiting riders enjoy hot cocoa and cookies as well as the festive sounds of Leonard Bearstein and his symphony orchestra of bears, while coloring books are distributed to little ones. The tour is narrated by Milwaukee Downtown’s Public Service Ambassadors, who will acquaint riders with key attractions and landmarks.

Ride the Jingle Bus for great views Visitors can gaze at downtown’s light displays aboard the convenient Jingle Bus. For $1 per person, this Coach USA bus takes visitors on a 40-minute tour throughout downtown. A friendly Public Service Ambassador is on board to acquaint riders with downtown attractions. The Jingle Bus operates 6-9 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays, through Dec. 28. Rides begin at The Shops of Grand Avenue’s Center Court, 275 W. Wisconsin Ave., where the Festival Warming House is located. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis each night beginning at 5:30 p.m. Passengers also receive a $3 parking voucher at The Shops of Grand Avenue’s attached structure with their Jingle Bus ticket purchase. The voucher is valid until 10 p.m. on the night the tour is taken. Please note that the

Christmas Eve, with the bar open until 4 p.m. On New Year’s Eve, the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. If your preference is Japanese or Korean cuisine, WASABI SUSHI LOUNGE in Brookfield and its sister restaurant, KANPAI in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, again are offering special all-you-caneat Sushi Buffets on Christmas Eve. All Bartolotta restaurants are closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, but they’re all open New Year's Eve, with many offering special menus and packages. Contact the location of your choice for all the details. And like each location’s New Year’s Eve celebration, Sunday brunch menus reflect the different “personalities” of the restaurants. At LAKE PARK BISTRO, Sunday brunch is served up along with sweeping views overlooking Lake Michigan’s shoreline. French cuisine rules here, so the Sunday brunch served 10 a.m.-2 p.m. offers choices that include Croque Monsieur & Madame. “Monsieur” is the classic Parisian sandwich of ham and Gruyere cheese with Dijon mustard while “Madame” is topped with Mornay sauce and a fried egg. At HARBOR HOUSE, Sunday brunch includes an amazing perspective on Milwaukee’s skyline. The restaurant’s location on a peninsula means diners gaze across the water to where Lake Michigan meets the soaring “wings” of the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Quadracci Pavilion. In the mood for seafood? The chilled seafood and salad table offers fresh oysters and clams, while entrees include Eggs Benedict with crab cake, Harbor House lobster pot

Holiday Highlights Issue pie and Cedar-planked baked Atlantic salmon. Enjoy 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Located on Milwaukee’s hip East Side is SOLO PIZZA. While brunch offerings include classics such as two eggs any style and french toast, Solo offers some innovative options as well. Solo is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, open 11 a.m. until close New Year’s Eve, open 10 a.m. (with Brunch) until close New Year’s Day. (THE BLACK ROSE, located next door, has the same hours with the exception of opening at 8 p.m. on Christmas Day.) Part of the Surg Restaurant group, the two HōM WOOD FIRED GRILL restaurants are conveniently located just north (Glendale) and west (Brookfield) of downtown. The Glendale location at the Bay Shore Town Center opens every day at 11 a .m. for lunch. The restaurant offers a menu of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees that stresses locally sourced ingredients. We love the diverse styles of the Surg Restaurant Group’s establishments.
