1 watching woodcarvers at work
At the Aburi carving center woodcarvers can be seen at work on magnificent carvings and drums which are available for purchase. If you are feeling creative, you can actually design your own piece. You can find them at Akwapim Ridge, on the way to Aburi town center, about 45min north of Accra.

caricature
This carving begins with a drawing on a piece wood, From this, the wood is carved and varnished.
To get these unique shapes the carver bores holes and indentures in a log, then sands it to get this unique look.
These require creative imagery in order to get a unique and peculiar design or shape.
stools
The traditional form of the stool has a set of aesthetic requirements for it to be accepted as a “quality” work.
dolls
Despite the elaborate nature of some of the dolls they are made from a single piece of wood.
African Drumming
You can’t help but get caught up in the genuine passions, intricate rhythms, and swirling movement of Ghana’s drummers and dancers. One group that we love is the Unity Drum Theater who perform regularly at the Oasis Beach Resort in Cape Coast. The Oasis Beach Resort is on the beach just west of the Cape Coast Castle, in Cape Coast, Central Region, about a 2 hour drive from Accra. Definitely worth the drive.
Situated on La beach road this is a gem of a gallery full to the brim with artistic expression. Three floors of art, sculpture, carvings and artifacts, definitely a haven for anyone looking to be inspired or simply enjoy some phenomenal work. It showcases traditional crafts, such as Ashanti drums and no.

5 in awe of the view at Hillburi
A stroll through Hillburi’s gardens is not only refreshing but it offers an amazing view of the Akwapim mountain range, especially when you are relaxing in their infinity pool. Located just after the road climbs up from the ocean-side plains, the gardens are located in pleasantly green hill-station-style surroundings. This lodge-style restaurant/pool/ hotel complex is beautifully maintained. Hillburi welcomes all non-members to use their facilities for GHc 5.00 per person. For dining guests there is no admission charge. Go to page 29 for more information about the resort.
Slap on the factor 30 and boost your x-factor at one of Accra’s super cool luxury pools as you indulge in fresh fruit cocktails under the palms. Try Labadi Beach Hotel, LaPalm or Mövenpick.

ast Rd CAPE pe Co COAST AND ELMINA - Ca twin towns of Cape Coast and Elmina provide a clear focal point for The a r Acc tourists. In the span of 15 km one can find five castles and forts that shaped not only Ghana’s history but that of the world over four centuries as the focus of first the gold trade and then the slave trade. They are a significant symbol of European-African encounters and of the starting point of the African Diaspora. This is also a logical base for trips to other destinations like Kakum National Park, one of the most diverse and best preserved national parks in West Africa. After a day of sight-seeing see Cape Coast become alive when food stands start popping up and locals start to chat, eat and dance under the stars. l Rd entia Resid

Much like the STC and is located 200m from STC station in Accra. OA offers very new buses for a reasonable price, they also have multiple drivers for longer trips with an armed guard for security. The other main attraction of this bus system is the scheduled times it travels. Leaving MAKOLA MARKET • TEL: 0244 601181 g h a n ak e y . c o m 3 1
