THIS MONTH’S FEATURE: Daily – Tours of the Ryman Auditorium Ryman Auditorium, 116 Fifth Avenue North. A must-see for anyone visiting Nashville, this National Historic Landmark is best known as the home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943-1974. The guided backstage tour takes you through dressing rooms dedicated to the stars of the Ryman's rich musical past including Minnie Pearl and Hank Williams. These same dressing rooms are used by all the biggest stars performing today from Brad Paisley to Bruce Springsteen. Be sure to visit the Hatch Show Gallery and the Gift Shop. June – Grand Opening of The Johnny Cash Museum

Grand Ole Opry shows are performed every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday in June. Plus, catch a show on Wednesday nights June 19 through August 7. Since 1925, country’s best have mesmerized audiences at the Opry, the show that made country music famous. Exhibits chronicle The Man in Black's life with stunning graphics, artifacts and interactive technology and include stage costumes, instruments, personal letters, artwork and handwritten songs as well as artifacts from family members and notable friends. From handwritten lyrics for I Walk the Line and Folsom Prison Blues, to a stone wall from Johnny and June's home in Hendersonville, this museum holds the very essence of the man. June 1 – A Summer of Art on 5th Avenue of the Arts Beginning June 1, The First Saturday Art Crawl will expand to summer hours of 4:00p.m.-9:00p.m. and the redesign of the 5th Avenue of the Arts block will be dedicated by Mayor Dean. During the free event, the block will be closed to traffic and the Downtown Partnership Performance Platforms will feature 12AM Band, Shagbark Trio and the Puppets from the Nashville Public Library (previewing the upcoming International Puppet Festival). The Lane Motor Museum will have three Art Decoinspired cars on hand in support of Sensuous Steel: Art Deco Automobiles opening June 14 at the

Frist Center for the Visual Arts. The art galleries on 5th Avenue will present special summer exhibitions: The Arts Company will open an inaugural series, Selected Contemporary Tennessee Artists: Five From Memphis in association with the David Lusk Gallery; The Rymer Gallery will be presenting new original works by automotive fine artist Lory Lockwood; Tennessee Art League will host The Chestnut Group’s Nashville Open Air exhibition and Tinney Contemporary will welcome guestcurator Reni Gower with the powerful paper exhibit, Shadow and Light. Art at the Arcade and Twist Gallery will also be offering a variety of new exhibitions.

June 6-9 – 2013 CMA Festival Riverfront Park, LP Field, and the Nashville Convention Center. Over 100 of the hottest acts in country today play over four days on two stages; Riverfront Park and LP Field. The daily concerts at Riverfront Park are free, but four-day ticket holders have an exclusive 45-minute, early-entrance window before the gates open to the general public. Artists to appear at Riverfront Park include Jo Dee Messina, Ronnie Milsap, Phil Vassar, Blackberry Smoke, Mark Chesnutt, Maggie Rose, The Grascals

and more. Artists slated to perform at LP Field include Taylor Swift, Zac Brown Band, LIttle Big Town, The Oak Ridge Boys, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Randy Travis, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley and many others. All the performers play this festival for free, with half of the proceeds going to fund music education in local schools. This year Fan Fair gets kicked up a notch with the AT&T U-verse Fan Fair X at the new, state-of-the-art Music City Center. Fan Fair X offers fans an enhanced experience by adding two new stages, demonstrations, events, and exhibits including the Marketplace with boutiques and artisan booths, and Rockology, featuring a gallery of stunning music memorabilia. The Four Day Pass costs $135 - $350 plus processing fees, and includes entrance to both stages for all four nights, Fan Fair X admittance, early admittance to the daily concerts at Riverfront Park, stage-front access to the Fan Photo Lines at LP Field and Riverfront Park and shuttle service between official venue stops. June 9 – 28th Annual Purity Miss Martha's Ice Cream Crankin' First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Rd. A favorite summer tradition for Nashville families, Miss Martha's Ice Cream Crankin' serves up hundreds of gallons of homemade ice cream. There are also children's activities and live music. $10 for adults and $8 for children ($13 and $10 after June 7) gets you all-you-can-eat. Hours are 3:00p.m.- 5:00p.m. and the event is rain or shine. Proceeds benefit the Martha O'Bryan Center, helping struggling families in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods. June 10-17 and 27-30 – Nashville Sounds Home Games Greer Stadium, 534 Chestnut St. The Nashville Sounds play home games June 10-13 vs. the Omaha Storm Chasers; June 14-17 vs. the New Orleans Zephyrs and June 27-30 vs. the Oklahoma City Red Hawks. June 13 – Yum!East East-Centric Pavilion, 1006 Fatherland St. Sample the best of the East Nashville neighborhood food and drink made by select restaurants, chefs, food artisans and breweries such as The Wild Cow, Fat Bottom Brewery, Cafe Margot, Eat Well Market, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, Yeast Nashville, Cafe Fundamental, Olive and Sinclair, Holland House and many others. Tickets are $40 plus a $3.19 processing fee, which includes admission, a souvenir glass and an open bar. This is a 21 and over event; no children or pets will be admitted and photo IDs are required. June 21 – The Hair Ball Jamison Hall, The Factory at Franklin, 230 Franklin Rd. Wear your most bodacious threads and relive the best of the decade at an 80s extravaganza. Skyline Drive will be playing the most memorable tunes from the era and J Bangs Salon will be onhand to help guests pump their hair sky-high. Silent auction items range from a Florida vacation to pieces of fine art. Tempting food, wine and beer will be on hand to replenish energy, and guests can chill out playing an arcade game furnished by Game Galaxy. The fun starts at 7:00p.m. and lasts until 11:00p.m. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door and $300 for a group of 10 and are available for purchase at petcommunitycenter.org. Proceeds go to Pet Community Center's spay/neuter program for feral cats.

June 21-23 - Nashville International Puppet Festival Nashville Main Library, 615 Church St. Performers and puppet troupes from Japan, France, Argentina, Germany and China, as well as the U.S. are coming to Nashville for this festival of an ancient art form. Saturday's activities begin with a puppet parade at 9:00a.m. beginning in front of the library featuring a band, floats, artists, musicians, dragons, and largerthen life marionettes. The Library Courtyard features a European Street Festival with unicyclists, jugglers, stilt walkers, face painters, and balloon artists. Festival and special-event tickets may be reserved in advance online for a convenience fee of $2.50 or by calling (888) 516-5554. Non-ticketed music performances, a maypole and food and beverage vendors can be found at Church Street Park. June 1-15 – A Doll's House Darkhorse Theater, 4610 Charlotte Ave. Henrick Ibsen's A Doll's House is considered one of the most influential plays of the theatre world. Controversial at the time of its premiere (1879), it criticized the traditional roles of men and women and the institution of marriage, which at the time was considered sacrosanct. Performances are 7:30p.m. Thursday - Saturday and 2:30p.m. Sunday. Tickets for adults are $12, with free admission for students of high school age or younger. June 1-15 – Escanaba in da Moonlight Boiler Room Theatre, The Factory at Franklin, 230 Franklin Rd., Bldg 6. Actor Jeff Daniels of Newsroom and Dumb and Dumber penned this comedy about a family hunting trip in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Reuben Soady is the only member of the family who hasn't "bagged a buck", and at age 43 this is his last chance before members of his family and friends consider him jinxed. Reuben goes through heaven and hell to get the job done. Performances are 8:00p.m. Tuesday and Thursday

June 14-30 – The Colored Museum Street Theatre, 1933 Elm Hill Pike. A precursor to shows such as In Living Color, The Colored Museum presents ten vignettes or "artifacts" of the black experience in America. A savage and irrepressible satire, some artifacts are very thoughtprovoking, some are both funny and moving, and others are out-and-out-hilarious while containing a deep message. HISTORIC COLLINSVILLE Grand Opening Saturday, June 18, from noon – 5:00p.m. will be an exciting day for children - no charge for children 12 and under, and a petting zoo, pony rides, hay rides and a young dance troupe will entertain. Located in Moss-Wright Park on Caldwell Rd. in Goodlettsville, TN. A staffed, living history site maintained by the City of Goodlettsville, the site represents the station built by Kasper Mansker in the late 18th century. Six times a year, artisans, craftsmen and volunteers populate the station for a weekend, giving a true representation of pioneerlife. Also located in Manskers Station is the Bowen House, a plantation house of the era. A tour of the house and the Station begins inside the house with a short film which gives the history of both of the sites. Tours of the house and station are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Jack Daniels Distillery tour 182 Lynchburg Highway, Lynchburg, TN. Between 9:00a.m. and 4:30p.m. daily, tours last an hour and fifteen minutes and start anywhere from every fifteen minutes to an hour, depending on the crowds. For a nominal fee, Jack Daniel’s is now offering Distillery tours, which include a sampling of the hometown product. Be sure to ask about these enhanced tours upon arriving at the Visitor Center. JOHNNY CASH MUSEUM 119 3rd Ave S. in downtown Nashville. NASH TRASH TOURS

1160 Otter Creek Road. A great place for an energetic hike up steep ridge trails, or a leisurely walk along paved roads,a Radnor has some of the highest hills in the Nashville Basin, and the Ganier Ridge and South Cove trails are nice, challenging hikes for a day hiker, but there are also flat, paved trails for those who want to just stroll and see the scenery. Wildlife and plants are abundant: it is not unusual at all to come across deer, heron, turkeys and turtles during a walk around Radnor Lake. The park is about a 5-minute drive from I-65, Exit 78, Harding Place.

For an irreverent look at the "low lights" of Nashville, there is only one tour company to call: NashTrash. The Jugg sisters' big pink bus takes visitors past country music landmarks of the city, such as the Ryman, Country Music Hall of Fame, the Wildhorse Saloon and Printer's Alley while they give an hysterical account of country music legends and their not-so-proud moments. This 90-minute tour is performance as much as information, is best for adults, and BYOB coolers of wine or beer are permitted. Public tours usually run just once a day Tuesday through Friday and twice a day on Saturday. Tours do not run on Sundays, Mondays or major holidays. Located in Centennial Park off of West End, this building is recognized as one of the world’s most impressive scale reproductions of an ancient classic. It houses Alan LeQuire’s magnificent 42 ft. statue of Athena, the largest indoor sculpture in North America. There are also art exhibits showcased there.

Tennessee State Museum

Through Sept. 1, 2013 The landmark exhibition from the National Archives, Discovering the Civil War, opened to great fanfare in February. Visitors are still flocking to the museum to see the original 13th amendments signed by President Lincoln which ended slavery forever in the United States. The exhibit combines priceless, original treasures and engaging touch-screen interactives in a physical environment inspired by 21st-century research rooms. The popular traveling exhibit is free to the public and on view through September 1, 2013. WARNER PARKS Located off Highway 100, Edwin and Percy Warner Parks offer some of the city's best do-it-yourself recreational opportunities, with trails for riding horses and hiking and paved roads for biking, walking, running or exploring in a car. There is also plenty of open space for playing frisbee, picnicking, or just getting some fresh air. Dogs are welcome in the parks.

The museum’s Civil War holdings of uniforms, battle flags and weapons are among the finest in the nation. Of special interest are Sam Davis’ boot (cut open to search for hidden papers when he was charged with spying for the Confederate Army); and an 1864 presidential campaign poster for Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson.
