The hard-rockin’ cantina will celebrate the independent and fabulous life with Sangarita, a combination of margarita and sangria, for $10 a glass and $30 per pitcher. For the gentleman who can’t seem to settle down, the team of dropouts behind the bar mix up the Permanent Bachelor, a balance of Jim Beam and strawberry and orange bitters. Guests can also embrace their single status with the Effen Cupid, brushing off love with Effen Black Cherry Vodka and garnished with conversation hearts. Sugar Factory American Brasserie at Paris will offer a “Love Bites” anti-Valentine’s Day prix fixe menu for guests looking to avoid the lovey-dovey dinner this year. Executive Chef Matthew Piekarski has created a menu that sappy lovers won’t be allowed to enjoy on Valentine’s Day, starting with an amuse-bouche of creamy garlic soup that is sure to deter any after-dinner smooching. The “Love Bites” menu, priced at $40 per person, will be served from 4 to 11 pm.

alentine’s Day is a tough holiday to get just right. You have to find the right balance of romance, the element of surprise and keep things personal. Generic just doesn’t get it done. That combination is perfectly executed at the brand new boutique steakhouse, SHe by Morton’s. A very feminine-inspired restaurant, the element of surprise is brimming over at SHe. Their elegance, personal service, fantastic music and gorgeous décor, mixed with the possibility of a celebrity sighting keeps things interesting. And you never know who else may be visiting your table – perhaps one of their fashionable models walking around on stilts! If cocktails are your passion, SHe does not disappoint. From the divine Lavender Lemontini to the Citrus Champagne Cocktail, you will not find just any drinks being mixed at the sumptuously appointed bar that hugs the front wall. Their menu is a modern twist on the classic steakhouse fare you will find throughout the city. You can start with the “Ocean Cold” selections which include fresh oysters, shrimp and Hamachi. If you prefer, order from the “Sharing” portion of the menu for hot starters like their Crab Cake Minis or Sea Bass Bites. Even the steak selections will keep you on your toes, allowing you to choose from “She”, “He” or “We” cuts. Perfect for their female clientele, the “She” sizes mean you can enjoy a succulent Filet or Rib Eye without overdoing it. For gentlemen, select from the “He” menu for slightly larger portions or Prime cuts; or you can order one of their “We” options for a bone-in New York or Porterhouse meant for two. If you prefer something other than steak, you will find a varied selection of signature entrees from Scallops to Free Range Chicken. Burke takes the audience on an enlightening journey through history; from the story of cavemen all the way into the modern world. As confusing and difficult as relationships can be in these modern times, we could all use a little guidance! The show starts with a video of Burke and his wife – yes, his reallife wife – interacting in standard couple-esque situations that we can all relate to. Ladies, how many times have you come home from shopping and wanted to put on your own little fashion show for your man? And how many times has he been 58

too engrossed in the television to even know you were talking to him? Exactly. Real life meets comedic monologue in this pointed look at the parts we all play in in our relationships. The story begins as Burke talks about how cavemen really worshipped the mysterious and amazing women that were able to multitask with ease while they had a honed ability to focus on one thing at a time. Women are the gatherers, seeing many things at once to bring back to the cave while men are the hunters, narrowing their gaze for the beast they are hunting. Burke then shows us the hilarious daily occurrences in our own lives that call attention back to this genetic programming that has allowed humanity to survive from the days of living in caves. He struggles to answer the question being asked at a cocktail party “Why are all men a**holes?” After all, if we evolved from different capabilities, is that statement even true, or is it just a big misunderstanding? As we find out over the next hour or so, our preconceived notions about what men or women “should” be doing in relationships may just be part of that same concept. Women like to shop because they are gathering for the home. They can shop for hours, looking for just the right addition to their gathering basket, even if they already have similar items from last season. Have you ever noticed how women can go out to shop with no idea of what exactly they are looking for? How about when your wife asks you, “Honey, can you picture this in our living room?” and you have no idea what she could possibly mean? Men, on the other hand, want to hunt. They hunt channels using the remote with the same focus as they once would have stalked game with a spear. Ladies, can you think of a time when you were talking to your husband while he was watching television, only to realize that he has no idea that you are even in the room? Burke uses countless other

examples of how these modernday traits affect our relationships, whether it is with our spouses or even friends of the same sex. How a group of men greet each other is drastically different from how a group of women would do the same. Couples will find themselves

nudging each other and laughing out loud as they recognize the behavior he is talking about. Instead of the comedic situations creating division between couples, it brings a greater understanding of each other that may help you fall in love with your partner all over again.

As he mentions near the end of the show, Burke is “selling monogamy in Sin City.” And boy, is he good at it! Kevin Burke captures the essence of relationships with comedic timing, honesty and respect for both sexes.

Valentine’s Day or not, Defending the Caveman is a hilarious look at relationships and the people in them. The show is perfect for men and women alike, young or old, married, dating or single. 59
