t may be hard to concentrate on your game in Hawai’i. After all, the lava-lined fairways provide a striking contrast to the manicured greens dappled by the canopies of palm trees. And then there’s the ocean beckoning for your attention. But you can do it—just remind yourself that many Big Isle courses were crafted by the biggest names in course design. Waikoloa Village Golf Club offers a Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed, championship course with large, well-bunkered and undulating greens. Wide landing areas encourage aggressive tee shots. Rated the “Big Island’s Best Bargain” by Golf Magazine, the course is frequented by local residents. Conveniently located above the Kohala Coast, the course is the second oldest on the Big Isle and treats golfers to mountain and coastal views. Hawai‘i on a Plate
There’s no escaping the influence of the Far East while you’re on vacation. They’re well represented in the islands with Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese ethnic dishes at restaurants, drive ins and take-out places all across the state. Savor some of the most authentic cultural flavors around!
Want to sample a meal that’s most popular with locals? Then order up a plate lunch. The quintessential food of the islands is a plate lunch with its standard “twoscoop rice,” macaroni salad and main entree, usually a protein. It’s what put L&L Hawaiian Barbecue® on the map. Order up a mahimahi, teri beef or chicken katsu plate—or select from a whole menu of choices. Combo or mixed plates are also available. Savor Hawai‘i on a plate!

What’s HRC?
The concept of Hawai‘i Regional Cuisine was born in 1991 by 12 founding chefs. At its core is the practice of incorporating locally sourced ingredients with the chef’s culinary background to create unique Pacific-inspired dishes. It’s a must-try while in the islands.

Also try the Kalua Pig & Kabbage, Teri Beef Hoagie or the seriously local and popular Oxtail Stew. Better yet, Ken’s is open 24 hours too! Bamboo Restaurant offers tender, smoked pork from the imu in its Kalua Pork Quesadilla. Or savor the Kohala Cordon & Kalua entree: oven-baked macadamia nut crusted organic chicken breasts wrapped around smokey kalua pork and Swiss cheese that’s topped with a lilikoi mustard glaze. Yummy in your tummy! At Kona Beach Steak House, the chef prepares sirloin that’s been marinated in a special teriyaki sauce. The Kona Beach Mahi Mahi is mahi mahi that’s seasoned, broiled and served with a mango chutney. In addition, enjoy the ocean views and sunsets.

THIS WEEK BIG ISLAND
Mofl0
™
2 w/ MO2 delivers fresh air on every breath.
Here’s how it works: as you know, trading CO2 (exhale) for O2 (inhale) occurs in billions of alveoli cells in the bronchial tubes & lungs, but not in the 4-6 inches from the trachea to the mouth hole—the stretch known as dead air space. A primitive snorkel triples dead air space, so you re-breathe the same air, which is like wearing the same sox or not changing your skivvies. Burning lungs with a heavy heart & head afflict the snorkeler breathing CO2. Do you really feel like sighing in an elevator? Now comes the FRESH-AIR SNORKEL: Mofl02™ with Jarvic IX-style, aortic valvulation & demarcation twixt in & out more tangible than that between church & state! With a double-valve twin chamber, the Mofl02™ clears easy with a double huff, for no headaches & more umph in your glug. Mofl02™ osmotic convection delivers 99% fresh air on every breath. So GET DOWN & come up to
MoflO O2™ for the day, the week or for keeps.
