FIND YOUR OPPORTUNITY:

As part of its mission, the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP) acts as an outspoken advocate for all UCO research, creative, and scholarly activities by creating a welcoming environment, supporting faculty initiatives and by facilitating the integration of research, creative, and scholarly activities into teaching tools. The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs serves as a liaison among faculty, staff, students, other universities, business, industry and funding agencies by assisting with external grant and collaborative opportunities.

“Research is formalized curiosity. It is poking and prying with a purpose. It is a seeking that he who wishes may know the cosmic secrets of the world and they that dwell therein.”

EXTERNAL GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

As part of promoting transformative learning, the ORSP assists faculty and staff through the process of identifying, developing, and submitting a grant proposal to federal, state, and local agencies. The ORSP oversees all aspects of the pre-award grant process to federal, state, and local agencies, with the exception of agencies that require a 501(c)(3) nonprofit status to apply.

ORSP SERVICES

• Assistance with searching for external grant opportunities

• Assistance with proposal preparation processes and procedures

• Assistance with proposal development

• Guidance for budget preparation

• Guidance for ensuring compliance with agency guidelines

• Obtaining institutional approval

• Submission of electronic proposals to federal agencies through Grants.gov

We are here to help you write competitive grant proposals. Contact us with questions.

INTERNAL GRANT OPPORTUNITIES:

FACULTY ON-CAMPUS GRANT PROGRAM

The purpose of the Faculty OnCampus Grant Program is to encourage a continuum of research, creative and scholarly activities by faculty at UCO. The intent of this program is to provide funding for faculty members to develop research projects with internal funds and then complete or expand the project with funds obtained from an external granting agency (federal, state, private corporation, foundation, etc.). All proposals will be peer-reviewed by external evaluators (non-UCO faculty and employees) with knowledge in the discipline of each proposal.

STUDENT RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES

The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs coordinates and administers opportunities for students to be involved in research, creative, and scholarly activities associated with the Faculty On-Campus Grant

Program. The link between research activities and student success is strong and well-known. Research enhances critical thinking skills and provides hands-on experience for students entering the job market or advanced degree programs. When involved in research, creative and scholarly activities, students enjoy positive, life-changing relationships with Faculty Mentors. Though historically relegated to graduate programs, the integration of creative activities with classroom activities is gaining recognition for its importance in undergraduate education. The following pages feature the different internal competitions and support we offer to faculty and students. We also provide a list of the FY 2019 - 2022 Faculty On-Campus Grant Program Recipients.

RESEARCH INTEGRITY & COMPLIANCE

TIPS FOR NAVIGATING THE UCO IRB & IACUC:

• Always inquire if you need to submit a protocol before you start your research.

• Timing is everything! Start as early as possible.

• Ensure your consent documents contain all the required elements. There is a template available to researchers on their website.

• Obtain approval from all research sites or other universities engaged in research study.

For more information on the IRB application process, visit our website: https://www.uco.edu/academic-affairs/ office-research-integrity-compliance/

The Office of Research Integrity & Compliance (ORIC) is dedicated to promoting a culture of ethics, integrity, and compliance by working with the UCO research community to facilitate and endorse a model for conducting outstanding research that reflects the University’s mission while adhering to federal laws and guidelines.

The office maintains oversight of the following:

• Institutional Review Board (IRB), and

• Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC)

• Research activities including recruitment instruments must be approved by the IRB and IACUC.

GRANT CONGRUENCY AND RESEARCH COMPLIANCE:

• Grant to protocol review is required when investigators seek or obtain funding to conduct research with human subjects or animals.

• Grant to protocol review is conducted by Research Integrity & Compliance staff to ensure that all work with sponsored funding using human subjects or animals in research has been reviewed and approved by the UCO IRB and/or IACUC prior to the onset of the work.
