SPRING 2010 SITE UPDATE FOR PARENTS BEFORE 360ROOKIE.COM In today’s media setting, high school sports news is very disjointed. You might be able to get scores in the local newspaper or rosters and schedules on MaxPreps.com, but the full coverage that youth sports deserves isn’t there. The idea behind the creation of 360Rookie.com is to fill that void and deliver daily coverage of high school-level sports. TECHNOLOGY AND NEW MEDIA With the rate at which technology is evolving these days, many sites have fallen behind the curve. Some even seem archaic. Although the design of 360Rookie.com is still in its development stage, we’ve placed an importance on photo and video content. We don’t want you just read about a game, we want you to see and hear it. HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE Being that 360Rookie.com’s coverage is a volunteer-based effort, including articles submitted by high school journalists, we’d love for you to contribute. We are grateful for any game recaps, photos and videos that you can pass along. It’s a way for you to promote your son or daughter’s team and the local organization he or she plays for. Larger files can be dropped over the internet on this site: http://drop.io. Also, if you’re looking to film any games, we’ve found FlipVideo cameras to be an incredible (and affordable!) tool.
SITE PROVIDES RECRUITING EDGE Whether your son or daughter is eight years old or 18, chances are they have an aspiration to play a sport at the collegiate (or professional!) level. Rather than work with a large, national, overpriced recruiting site, collaborate with us! We will offer affordable player profile pages as part of our regular site content. The student-athlete simply completes an e-mail interview with us to get vital information. Photos and videos are then gathered as additional features for the profile. We’ll do the rest! As we promote the site to college coaches, they’ll continue to access 360Rookie to search for profiles and you’ll be able to send coaches a link directly to the student-athlete’s page as well. ADVERTISING SPACE ON 360 If you or someone you know would like to advertise on 360Rookie.com, just contact us. As we look to improve our site’s content with new technologies, we’d be happy to promote your organization with fancy graphics. Even as we add a few ads, the content we provide is No. 1 in priority so promotional graphics will not interfere or outweigh the news of the day. ALWAYS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT We know that there is never a perfect model for high school sports coverage. If you have any suggestions or comments, don’t hesitate to contact the editors here.
