Game 7
UCSanDiego Softball
TRITONS SECURE SERIES SPLIT SATURDAY After getting swept on Friday, the UC San Diego softball team returned the favor to Chico State Saturday with a pair of exciting home victories by scores of 4-0 and 10-9. The Tritons evened their record at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Wildcats suffered their first losses of 2010, dropping to 4-2 overall and 2-2 through league action. On the mound for UCSD, sophomore Camille Gaito picked up both wins Saturday to improve to 3-1 on the season. After earning All-West Region honors in 2009, Gaito is off to a strong start in 2010 with 26 innings pitched and a 0.54 earned run average. In the early game Saturday, Gaito threw a complete-game shutout and allowed just three CSUC baserunners along the way. LESOVSKY LEADS TEAM IN HITTING AT .500 Junior All-American Kris Lesovsky continued to rack up hits this past weekend in the home series with Chico State to open CCAA play. Now carrying a sixgame hitting streak to start 2010, Lesovsky collected five hits in the four games against the Wildcats. In the final game of the series, Lesovsky started the bottom of the sixth inning with a double to spark the Tritons’ two-run rally that would put them over the top, 10-9. SCOUTING THE COYOTES OF CSUSB In the CCAA preseason coaches poll, Cal St. San Bernardino was picked to finish fifth, just one spot lower than the Tritons. The Coyotes have only played in two games so far this season, dropping two contests to NAIA defending champion Cal Baptist. In 2009, CSUSB finished at 23-35 overall and 13-19 in the CCAA. The Coyotes are counting on two veterans to carry their offense - senior firstbaseman Ashley Collinwood and junior outfielder Priscilla Curiel. CSUSB head coach Tacy Duncan is in her fourth season with the Coyotes. SCOUTING THE PIONEERS OF CSUEB The newest member of the league, Cal St. East Bay, began its 2010 season with a four-game series against CCAA foe San Francisco State this past weekend. The Pioneers went 1-3, with Catherine Schorn helping CSUSB win the season opener by throwing a complete game and allowing just one run along the way. Struggling offensively in the early going, the Pioneers are batting just .187 as a team. CSUSB head coach Barbara Pierce is in her fourth year with the Pioneers.
