TRITONS BEGIN CRITICAL HOME STRETCH
The UC San Diego men’s tennis team begins a crucial stretch of home matches on Monday when it hosts No. 10 Rollins College at 2 p.m. on the Northview Tennis Courts. The Tritons, at 6-4 overall, play host to three inregion opponents later in the week: Western New Mexico, Sonoma State and Hawaii Hilo. All three squads are ranked within the top 50 of the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. UCSD, riding a twomatch winning streak after wins against Villanova and Cal Poly Pomona, will look to improve on its 4-1 record against Division II West Region opponents.
UCSD ENDS DOUBLES TOURNAMENT PLAY The Tritons lasted two days at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships, held at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Naveen Dixit and Sam Ling recorded UCSD’s lone win in the tournament, defeating Eugene Lopez and Angel Lopez, 7-5, 6-2, on Thursday.
SCOUTING THE TARS OF ROLLINS
Rollins College, located in Winter Park, Fla., is off to a 3-4 start in the tough South Region of Division II. Four of the Tars’ first seven opponents are ranked within the top 12 of the ITA poll and in its last match, Rollins topped No. 12 Northwood, 8-1. The Tars are led by sophomore Jeff Morris, who is 6-1 so far out of the No. 1 position. In the last meeting between UCSD and Rollins on March 12, 2008, the Tritons pulled out a 5-4 victory. The two teams were ranked No. 6 and No. 9 respectively at the time.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS OF WNMU
After a two-week hiatus, the Mustangs return to action when they travel to La Jolla for a contest with UCSD. WNMU has started the season 1-4, with one of the losses coming to the Tritons earlier at the Paseo Tournament in Phoenix. Leading that victory for UCSD at the No. 1 singles position was Erik Elliott, who defeated the Mustangs’ top player Yair Banuelos, 6-4, 6-4. WNMU is currently ranked at No. 40 in the ITA poll.

SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES OF SSU
The Seawolves are off to a respectable 4-3 start to the 2010 season, with all four of their victories coming at the Paseo Tournament held in Phoenix earlier this year. SSU is led at the No. 1 singles position by Conner Olson, who is ranked individually at No. 40 in the ITA preseason poll. In 2009, the Tritons topped the Seawolves in the two meetings between the teams.
SCOUTING THE VULCANS OF HAWAII HILO
After getting part of their scheduled postponed because of a tsunami evacuation, the Vulcans are in the midst of a West Coast swing. UHH plays Western New Mexico on Thursday in Los Angeles before traveling to La Jolla Saturday. The Vulcans will play a doubleheader on Sunday in Los Angeles, challenging Sonoma State and Cal Poly Pomona.
