UCSanDiego Women’s Tennis
The No. 17 UC San Diego women’s tennis team travels to Hawaii this week for three important matches. With all three contests having implications for the Division II’s West Region postseason picture, the Tritons will challenge No. 3 BYU-Hawaii Wednesday, No. 12 Hawaii Pacific Thursday and No. 41 Hawaii Hilo on Friday. UCSD has been knocked out of the NCAA postseason by BYUH and HPU the last two seasons.

TRITONS EMBARK ON KEY HAWAII TRIP
The Tritons cruised to a 7-2 home victory over No. 41 Hawaii Hilo on March 13, the last match UCSD competed in. The Tritons, 7-2 overall this season, got a week off for final exams before they travel to Hawaii for three matches this week. On March 13, sophomore Samantha Yeung and junior Cindy Dao turned in dominating performances. Yeung picked up a 6-0 first-set victory at the No. 6 position before her opponent retired. Dao picked up a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the No. 3 spot. Yeung and Dao lead the team in singles wins with seven and six, respectively. Senior Anita Athavale has performed admirably out of the gates in 2010, collecting a record of 4-0 so far this season. The Los Gatos native picked up her fourth victory Saturday, knocking off the Vulcans’ Madison Wells, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 5 position.
TRITONS EARN FIRST SWEEP OF SEASON
UCSD secured a 9-0 home victory over Western New Mexico on March 10. For the Tritons, it was the first sweep of 2010. Leading the way at the No. 1 singles position, junior Taskeen Bains defeated the Mustangs’ Nikolina Vukadin, 6-1, 6-3. Behind Bains were Cindy Dao and Valerie Tang, both securing shutout 6-0, 6-0 wins over their opponents. Yeung tallied a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 position on Wednesday. In the doubles portion, the Tritons defeated the Mustangs by a combined score of 24-1. Both the No. 2 pair of Jacquelyn Davis and Anita Athavale and the No. 3 duo of Tang and Dao recorded 8-0 shutouts.
SCOUTING THE SEASIDERS OF BYUH
BYU-Hawaii is now 14-0 on the season while being ranked at No. 3 nationally. The Seasiders are coming off a 9-0 sweep of Cal State L.A. on Monday afternoon.
SCOUTING THE SEA WARRIORS OF HPU
Hawaii Pacific, ranked 12th nationally, hold a record of 12-2 currently. After topping No. 11 Clayton State on March 10, the Sea Warriors suffered their first two losses of the season while competing in Las Vegas. HPU is led at No. 1 singles by Zora Vlckova, a native of the Czech Republic.
