J AIME W OHLBACH 3RD SEASON AT DELAWARE • KUTZTOWN ‘00

Jaime Wohlbach begins her third season as the University of Delaware softball head coach during the 2013 season. Wohlbach (pronounced "wall-bock"), immediately began to turn the Blue Hen program around during her first season in Newark, leading Delaware to the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2006. The Blue Hens finished 21-34 overall and placed fourth in the league with a 10-11 conference mark. Michelle McKinnon, Gina Knutson and Amanda Stacevicz each earned second team All-CAA honors during Wohlbach's first year, while McKinnon was also a CAA All-Rookie Team selection. Delaware finished 15-41-1 during the 2012 campaign, and again finished fourth in the CAA to quailify for the league tournament. UD has earned spots in the conference tournament in consecutive years for the first time since 2002-04. Wohlbach earned a Bachelor's degree with honors in Elementary Education and Special Education in 2000 and a Master's degree in student affairs of higher education in 2002 from Kutztown (Pa.) University. Wohlbach arrived at Delaware following three seasons at the helm of Iona, where turned around the Gaels' program as well. She guided a squad that had not posted a winning season in five years to one that captured the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title in 2010 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program's 25-year history. She was named the MAAC Coach of the Year in 2010 when she coached the league Pitcher and Rookie of the Year. Over her final two seasons at Iona she coached nine all-conference selections, two league Rookie of the Year winners, an All-Region selection, and an ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American. Prior to joining the Gaels, Wohlbach served as an assistant coach at Lehigh University in 2006-07, working as the team's hitting and catcher's coach while also assisting in practice sessions and strength and conditioning workout programs. She began her college coaching career as a student assistant at NCAA Division II Kutztown in 2000-01, volunteer assistant at NCAA Division III Muhlenberg College in 1999-2001 and at Lehigh in 2001-02, and as an assistant at the University of Pennsylvania in 2002-03. Since 2002, Wohlbach has run a national and international softball clinic called Fastpitch Performance. The camps and clinics have provided instruction for all levels of the game and have taken her all over the world, including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Belgium and Australia. Her international

reputation has garnered her contacts and recognition from both amateur and professional organizations and sponsors. Wohlbach's coaching and instructing experience came during the off season of her extensive international playing career. Her professional resume in the United States began after graduating from Kutztown University in 2000. She signed with the Tampa Bay FireStix in the former Women's Professional Softball League for the 2001 season. Wohlbach moved on to the National Pro Fastpitch League where she was selected in the fourth round of the December 2003 draft by the California Sunbirds, a team located in Sacramento, Calif. She played for the independent league Nebraska Comets before returning to the NPF's Philadelphia Force for the 2006 season. While playing professionally in the U.S., Wohlbach also played for and coached several professional teams in Europe. She has excelled at the international level throughout the world, including tours in the Czech Republic and a stop in Great Britain. In 2004 and 2005 she played professionally in New Zealand and on a world all-star select team, which included players from New Zealand, Australia, Japan, South Africa and the United States. Earlier in 2004, Wohlbach played for the Great Britain National Team in Athens as a test run to the 2004 Athens Olympics; winning a gold medal by defeating Russia, the Czech Republic and Greece. From 2001-2004, Wohlbach coached an 18-under USA All-Star team in Australia as a follow-up to the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She also played professionally in the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Greece, and coached a youth all-star team in Italy. Wohlbach was a four-year standout at Kutztown, serving as a three-time team captain and becoming the first graduate of her school to play a professional sport. She earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors as a catcher during her junior and senior campaigns as well as being named to the AllRegion Team in 2000. She was the team's Most Valuable Player in 1999 as well as a nominee for the school's Female Athlete of the Year.

L AUREN C OGNIGNI 2ND SEASON AT DELAWARE • SAINT JOSEPH’S ‘08

Lauren Cognigni begins her second season as an assistant coach with the University of Delaware softball team in 2013. Cognigni, a four-year letterwinner and 2008 graduate of Saint Joseph’s University, serves as the Blue Hens’ pitching coach and first base coach. Last season Cognigni helped the Blue Hens win 15 games and qualify for the CAA Tournament. Prior to arriving at UD Cognigni spent two and a half years at Marist College, and was instrumental in helping the Red Foxes improve from eighth place in the MAAC in 2010 to a second place finish the following year. The Red Foxes’ earned run average dropped nearly two runs, from 5.71 in 2010 to 3.79 in 2011, as Marist showed a 23-win improvement. She also helped Red Foxes pitcher Emily Osterhaus improve from a 3-12 record an a 4.95 ERA in 2010 to a 15-10 mark with a 3.14 ERA the next year. Prior to arriving at Marist Cognigni spent the 2009 season serving as an assistant with her alma mater, working primarily with the outfielders and pitchers while serving as the first base coach. Cognigni was a four-year standout at Saint Joseph’s, leaving the program as the all-time leader with 534 career strikeouts. She fired the second perfect game in school history as a freshman, and also tossed a pair of no-hitters during her career.

Tucker, a native of Antelope, Calif., was a four-year standout at Charlotte, where she graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice and psychology. She started all 54 games for the 49ers as a senior, setting a school single-season record with 12 home runs while also pacing the squad with a .388 batting average, 66 hits, 17 doubles, and 47 RBI. Tucker was selected to the first team All-Atlantic 10 and was tabbed the 49ers’ Team MVP in 2011, while she was a first team All-Mid Atlantic Region and NCCSIA All-State selection as both a sophomore and senior. Tucker, who served as the 49ers’ catcher, finished her career at Charlotte ranked second in school history with 123 RBI, second with 18 home runs, and tied for second with 43 doubles. An excellent student as well, Tucker was named to the Dean’s List in 2007, was selected to the Athletic Directors List three times, and was an Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference selection as a senior. Additionally Tucker was very active in the Charlotte community, volunteering with the Food for Families, Adopt a Family for the Holidays, RuBiRu, and Stroll for Epilepsy programs. She helped build a playground for underprivileged children and read books to students at Albermarle Elementary School during 2008, while she was a tutor for elementary school children and worked with Operation Christmas Child in 2010. Tucker was a hitting and catching instructor at All Star City during her final three years in Charlotte and was a hitting, pitching and catching instructor at the All-American Softball School in Roseville, Calif. during the summers of 2007 through 2009.

John Seneca begins his second season as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Delaware softball team in 2013. Last season Seneca helped the Blue Hens win 15 games and qualify for the CAA Tournament. Seneca has served as coach of the Allentown Patriettes since 2006, leading the squad to a 201-36 record while competing in ASA, PONY, and USSSA regional and national tournaments. He also was the head coach at Saucon Valley High School from 2006 through 2009, guiding the team to a 68-28 record. Seneca led the Panthers to four Colonial League and District 11 appearances, and coached eight first team AllLeague and All-Area players. Seneca is certified with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, is a 2-Star NFCC Master Coach, and is an ASA-ACE Certified Coach. He is currently a senior account manager with Salesforce.com.

DOMINIC ACADEMY At Delaware: Three-year letterwinner and standout • All-Colonial Athletic Association candidate and a dual threat as one of team's top pitchers and hitters • serving as team captain for the third consecutive year • fully recovered from a shoulder injury that forced her to miss the 2012 season • expected to hit in the middle of the order and anchor the pitching staff • enters her senior season ranked third in UD history with 305 strikeouts, fourth with five saves, sixth with 93 appearances, sixth with 11 shutouts, tied for eighth with 38 complete games, ninth with 436.1 innings pitched, and tied for ninth with 32 wins • career .260 hitter at the plate who is tied for 11th in school history with six home runs. 2012 Season: Sat out the year with a shoulder injury. 2011 Season: Named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association second team as a designated player/pitcher for the second consecutive season • earned the team’s Defensive Most Valuable Player Award • went 11-9 with a 3.27 ERA while making 35 appearances in the circle, the fourth most appearances in a UD single season • earned a pair of saves while throwing 137 innings on the season • also served as the Blue Hens’ cleanup hitter, batting .258 while ranking second on the team with 31 RBI, eight doubles and three home runs • was fourth on the squad with 41 hits and 18 runs scored • allowed one run in 4.2 innings to earn her first victory of the season over Hampton (3/1) • fired 3.2 scoreless frames to pick up a non-league win over Towson (3/5) • tossed four scoreless innings while earning a victory against James Madison (4/9) • picked up a pair of wins over UNC Wilmington (4/22-23) • gave up two runs in six innings while recording a victory at Drexel (4/30) • won five consecutive decisions from April 6 through April 30 • led the Blue Hens with 14 multi-hit games and was tied for second with five multi-RBI contests • went 2 for 3 with homer during a victory over Towson (3/5) • finished 2 for 3 with two RBI and a homer versus Marist (3/12) • went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI against Villanova (3/29) • added two-hit games against CAA opponents James Madison (4/9), Drexel (4/30) and Towson (5/7) • drilled a three-run homer during a victory

INDIVIDUAL PITCHING

The Colonial Athletic Association has built a reputation as one of the nation’s top collegiate conferences both athletically and academically. The CAA encompasses five of the nation’s nine largest metropolitan areas with a geographic footprint that stretches from Boston to Atlanta. The conference has produced 16 national team champions in five different sports, 33 individual national champions, 12 national players of the year, 12 national coaches of the year and 12 Honda Award winners. Just as impressive, however, are the honors accumulated away from competition, which include five Rhodes Scholars and 22 NCAA post-graduate scholars. In 2011-12, more than 1,900 of the league’s 4,000 student-athletes received the Commissioner’s Academic Award after posting at least a 3.2 grade point average while lettering in a varsity sport. The conference had 19 teams in 13 different sports receive NCAA Public Recognition Awards based on the latest Academic Progress Report released in 2012. The landscape of the conference stretches along the majority of the East Coast, and includes six of the nation’s top 25 media markets – New York (1), Philadelphia (4), Boston (7), Atlanta (8), Washington, D.C. (9) and Baltimore (25). The number of television homes in the CAA market exceeds 20 million. The CAA conducts championships in 23 sports. Male athletes compete for championships in baseball, basketball, cross country, CAA COMMISSIONER football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & Tom Yeager field and wrestling. Female athletes battle for conference titles in basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field and volleyball. In 2011-12, 24 teams earned NCAA Tournament berths and 51 student-athletes received All-America honors in 16 different sports. The conference has made its presence known nationally in men’s basketball with two teams – George Mason (2006) and VCU (2011) – advancing to the NCAA Final Four over the past six years. Three CAA teams earned NCAA Tournament berths for the first time in 2011 as conference champion Old Dominion was joined by VCU and George Mason. VCU knocked off USC, Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State and top-seeded Kansas, while Mason defeated Villanova. In 2006, George Mason captured the nation’s imagination by becoming the first mid-major program since 1979 to reach the Final Four, posting victories over Michigan State, North Carolina, Wichita State and Connecticut along the way. At least five CAA teams have reached postseason play for the past four years. The CAA has also had great success in women’s basketball, with six teams making the postseason in 2011-12. Conference champion Delaware advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time and was ranked #7 in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll. James Madison beat two ACC and two Big East teams to reach the championship game of the WNIT. Drexel, Hofstra, UNCW and VCU joined the Dukes in the WNIT. Old Dominion, which won an NCAA-record 17 straight CAA titles from 1992-2008, boasts three national championships (1979, 1980, 1985) and was national runner-up in 1997. The conference also excels in many other sports. CAA squads have combined to win 10 field hockey national titles since the championship began in 1981 and ODU reached the national

semifinals in 2011. Four men’s soccer teams earned NCAA Tournament berths last season and James Madison became the seventh CAA team to reach the final 16 of the event in the past decade. Hofstra’s softball team won the Los Angeles Regional and became the first CAA squad to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals. At least two women’s soccer teams have reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in three of the past five seasons. William & Mary’s men’s cross country squad has made the NCAA Championship in 12 of the past 13 years. In the pool, George Mason’s Ashley Danner finished second in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 breaststroke at the 2012 NCAA Championship and received AllAmerica honors. Delaware and Towson have each reached the Final Four of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship. On the track, Mason’s David Verburg placed fourth in the 400 meters at the NCAA Championship. The CAA has sent multiple teams to the NCAA Baseball Championship in nine of the last 15 years and has had at least 12 players selected in the eight of the last 10 Major League Baseball drafts. The conference also boasts numerous All-Americans in lacrosse, tennis, golf, women’s lacrosse and wrestling. CAA member institutions are committed to excellence in the classroom. The Colonial Academic Alliance was created in 2002 by the league’s presidents with a goal of expanding their partnership to all aspects of university life outside of intercollegiate athletics. Among the programs that have been established are an undergraduate research conference, coordination of study abroad programs and granting visiting academic status to student-athletes traveling to an away contest so that they have access to libraries, academic resource centers and computer labs. Commissioner Thomas E. Yeager has guided the CAA since its inception. The conference traces its roots back to 1983 when three of its current members- George Mason University, James Madison University, and the College of William and Mary - were aligned with East Carolina University, the United States Naval Academy and the University of Richmond as a basketball league (ECAC South). During the next two years, the league added 11 sports, acquired two new members (the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and American University) and decided to form a new association. The transformation from ECAC South to CAA took place on June 6, 1985. ince its inception in 1743, the University of Delaware has steadily produced some of the most productive and accomplished members of our society. From statesmen to scientists to sports figures, the Blue Hen family boasts a lengthy list of prominent alumni. Delaware is one of only five colleges in the nation to have produced a signer of the Declaration of Independence, a Secretary of State, and a Vice President. Harvard, Princeton, William & Mary, and Yale are the only other institutions to have a similarly prestigious alumni base. The Blue Hen family also consists of several worldrenowned inventors and a pioneer in the computer industry. Astronauts and acclaimed aeronautical experts also have been known to call Newark home during their collegiate careers. In the entertainment industry, Delaware has been a steady producer of both top-flight athletes and award-winning entertainers. From Hall of Fame professional athletes to Emmy-nominated actors, Delaware has continued to supply the world with entertainment.
