Last Meeting On Sunday October, 13 the Blue Hens and Huskies met for their regular season matchup at Delaware Mini-Stadium. Delaware earned a 2-0 victory on Northeastern on its senior day. The loss for the Huskies was their first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) of the season. Less than six minutes into the match, sophomore Emily Market scored to give Delaware an early 1-0 lead. The goal, which proved to be the game-winner, marked the sophomore’s first goal and first game-winner of the 2013 campaign. At the 55th minute of the match, senior Andrea Arnold nailed home a rebounded shot from Chelsea Duffy to give the Hens a 2-0 advantage. Northeastern could not executive scoring opportunities throughout the remaining 35 minutes of the match as Delaware earned the shutout victory. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Levy registered two saves in the win as she registered her fourth shutout of 2013.


Hens Return to CAA Championship For the third time in the past four season, Delaware women’s soccer team has returned to the CAA Championship. The Blue Hens look to win their first ever CAA title this post-season. 2011 CAA Tournament (at Williamsburg, Va.) Quarterfinals: No. 4 Delaware vs. No 5 Hofstra; W, 1-0 Semifinals: No. Delaware vs. No. 1 William & Mary; L, 2-1 2012 CAA Tournament (at Williamsburg, Va.) Quarterfinals: No. 6 Delaware vs. No. 3 UNCW; T, 1-1 (2OT) (UNCW advance on PK’s, 4-3) All Roads Go Through Harrisonburg Regular season Champion James Madison will host the CAA Tournament for the first time since the 1995 season. The last time JMU played in the CAA Championship match in 2010, the Dukes entered the Tournament as the second seed. The Dukes upset the first-ranked Hofstra to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Prior to 2010, JMU played in the CAA Championship contest in 2009, 2006, 2001and 1995. The Dukes play all home matches at the University Park complex. The game-playing surface is natural grass but the facility also offers FieldTurf and grass practice facilities. JMU plays afternoon and night games at the lighted complex. Hit Me With Your Best Shot The 2013 Delaware women’s soccer team has had one of its best season in program history in regards to scoring chances. This year the Blue Hens have placed 120 shots on net averaging 6.67 shots on goal per game. Both totals rank second in the Delaware record books.

Jessica Goalkeeping Tandem Delaware keepers Jessica Levy and Jessica Figueroa have combined to tally impressive numbers this season for the Blue Hen goalkeeping unit. The Jessica tandem has registered 66 saves this season with a 1.03 goals against average. The duo has only allowed 19 goals to its opponents 23 while shutting out opponents on six separate occasions. Going Streaking During the 2013 season, Delaware owned an impressive six game win-streak between the months of September and October. Throughout the win streak, the Hens shutout their opponents four times and outscored their opponents, 12-2. Home Sweet Home At Delaware Mini-Stadium this year, Delaware complied am impressive 6-1-1 overall record. It’s only loss at home came to CAA regular season champion James Madison with its only tie against last year’s CAA Champion Hofstra. Grzenda on Sunday’s Match “We had no idea where we were going to play or who we were going to play against in the first round at the end of our last weekend. I think the girls are really excited to travel to Boston. Hopefully we can get a win then head down South to play another match.” Grzenda on the 2013 CAA Tournament “We are very excited to be playing in the CAA Tournament this year. Making the playoffs is one of our goals at the beginning of every season. Once we attainted that goal, the girls became very excited and we are going to see how we can push that excitement to make it to the finals.”
